  1. Little preface before you start to read this, I know it's not very well paced. This is the longest thing I've written in a long time. I have never been the best with pacing. I'm not really the best at writing in general. But I really want to at least try. You'll never get better if you don't try, right?
  2. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!
  3.
  4.
  5.
  6. You awake from a bad nightmare. It seems they've been getting more and more common for you these last few days.
  7. So, you call up your best friend Frisk. He's almost always awake this time of night. He loves to help people anyways, so you're sure he'd help.
  8. "...Hello?"
  9. "Hey Frisk, sorry for calling you. I just woke up from a bad nightmare and I needed somebody to talk to."
  10. "That's alright! I'm always fine with helping anybody who needs it, even if it's just a nightmare."
  11. "Thank you a lot, Frisk! Anyways, it was really terrifying. It was kinda based off of a story you told me from back when you were in the Underground."
  12. "Really?"
  13. "Yeah, it was you getting chased by Undyne, and I could do nothing but watch as she just... hurt you. I hate having nightmares about my friends."
  14. "It's alright. I hate those too. But don't worry, I don't think Undyne would do anything like that."
  15. "I hope so."
  16. "Don't worry, I know so, Anon. That was years ago, after all."
  17. "Yeah. Talk to you in the morning, Frisk. Thanks for helping."
  18. "You're welcome! Goodnight!"
  19. After that talk, you go to sleep, and have no more problems for the rest of the night. All thanks to Frisk.
  20. You're so thankful to have him as your best friend.
  21. Not only is he sweet as sugar, he's really cute too! But you really don't want anything of a romantic or sexual manner. It's just nice to have a cute, sweet friend to get along with.
  22. He's been acting kind of weird lately, though. He's been going to a therapist for ages, which is normal, seeing as how he saved an entire race of sentient beings from being trapped in a cave system.
  23. You were the same age as him when all that happened. Such a long time ago, it feels like.
  24. Worrying about him as become a common thing in your life. He's not only your best friend, he's pretty much your only friend. You don't mind at all though. He's a great person.
  25. One can only wonder though... what does he talk about in those therapy sessions?
  26. He's been more and more sad as of late. Those soft yellow eyes of his keep getting more and more despondent. Sometimes, when you're at his apartment, you hear him speaking to himself in another room like he's speaking to somebody else.
  27. Nevertheless, whatever it could be, he's still your friend. He'll tell you about it when he's ready.
  28.
  29. The dawn came and woke you up by blinding you. How fun.
  30. At least you didn't have any more nightmares!
  31. Though, you didn't rest either.
  32. At least you can go over to Frisk's place.
  33. Taking a quick shower, brushing your teeth, and making a quick breakfast is easy. You've been doing this type of rushed thing for a while now, seeing as how you pretty much just always want to spend time with Frisk nowadays.
  34. It's a little weird. He probably finds it creepy. Ah well, he probably understands that he's the only person you really talk to now. At least, you hope.
  35. Frisk's apartment building was pretty barren and awful looking. The wallpaper, an ugly green looked like something out of the early 70's. The flooring was this old wood that looked like it had been glossy in the past, but that shine withered away over time.
  36. You never understood why Frisk would live in such a desolate place.
  37. He has Toriel after all, why live here when he could be living in a nice house with his adoptive mother?
  38. At the very least, his actual apartment looked a whole lot better.
  39. You gently knock on the door.
  40. "Hey, Frisk! You mind if I come over for a little bit?"
  41. "S-Sure. Just hold on a second."
  42. "Okay... hey, you alright? You sound a little, um, nervous? Is that the right word?"
  43. "Don't worry Anon, it's nothing. I'm just dealing with something right now."
  44. "Alright, that's all you had to say."
  45. Eventually, Frisk let you in.
  46. He looked a little disheveled. His hair was messy, his shirt was wrinkly and hastily thrown on, it seemed. This was strange for him.
  47. "Frisk, are you really sure that you're okay?"
  48. "Yeah. I'm fine. Come on in."
  49. "Okay."
  50.
  51. Frisk's apartment was cozy. He always put a lot of work in to making it look nice. He had this really comfy black leather couch, with a nice wooden coffee table with a little bowl filled with buttercups, that he watered every so often. It was always really nice, compared to where you live. Probably another reason you always stayed at Frisk's.
  52. You sat down on the couch. Frisk set down next to you not too long after.
  53. "Frisk?"
  54. "Y-Yeah?"
  55. "Has everything been alright? I know we talked last night about a nightmare I had, did that bother you in anyway?"
  56. "No, that's not it. Don't worry."
  57. Frisk softly put his hand on top of yours. This is weird. He's never done this before. You're getting even more worried for him. What the hell has been going on with your friend? Your BEST friend for crying out loud. Why has he never told you what's been going on with him, really? And why did you have to think about all of this before you passed back out last night?
  58. Bad luck. You've always had bad luck.
  59. But none of that matters right now, you've got to help your friend.
  60. "Frisk... I know you've been going to a therapist for a long time now. Please, just try and tell me what's going on. I know you're in pain. I can tell. When you've been friends as long as we have, you can always tell."
  61. "Please, Anon, please don't make me tell you. It's so hard."
  62. "Frisk, I can't help you if you don't tell me what's going on."
  63. "Okay. Here goes. I guess."
  64. "It's alright."
  65. You give him a quick hug. He always liked to do that whenever you felt down. Might as well pay back the favor. You want him to be happy.
  66. "Thanks."
  67. "You're welcome."
  68.
  69. "Anyways. Ever since I fell in the Underground, I've had this... voice. In my head. At first, it wasn't really there. I couldn't even tell it wasn't me at first. But then, it just started to grow and grow. It called itself Chara."
  70. "Now, I wouldn't think anything of it. I was just a kid, and kids will always have imaginary friend and stuff that just come out of nowhere. But, as I was going through the Underground, I found out more and more about the first human who fell to the underground. His name was... Chara. In a lab, there were these tapes. Old VHS tapes that had looked to be from the 90's. I couldn't really tell. There was this one tape that will always stick with me. It had Chara in it. The voice sounded just like the voice in my head. I was so scared. It was him talking about his plan. To break the barrier."
  71. "I understand why. I understand all of it. Chara killed himself. He was trying to save the monsters. But he was so full of pent up anger and revenge. He was going to kill a whole village of humans. He needed to kill them in the first place. But not all of them..."
  72. "Chara... wasn't the best. He wasn't evil either."
  73. "I know why he 'fell' down."
  74. "Asriel told me it wasn't for the happiest reason. But Chara told me the full reason. He let me see those memories. That's just one of the reasons I go to therapy."
  75. "I can feel all the pain he felt. It hurts so much."
  76. "That's why I understand it."
  77. "I've had a thought stick with me for such a long time now. That thought is, why would somebody hurt a kind child so much? Why would somebody drive that child to hate his own species? To try to kill himself, and then having him succede the second time?"
  78. "There are real monsters in this world. They aren't the monsters I freed. They're human."
  79. "Do you understand now?"
  80. "It's not everything, it's very far from everything. It's only cut up snippets that I can remember right now. It's all a jumble. But please tell me that you understand why I'm like this."
  81. "Tell me you understand why I've always hidden this from you, Anon. I just want to protect you... Chara does too."
  82. "He's taken a liking to you. I don't know why. I think he finds you cute or... something like that. I'm not really sure. I don't know what he thinks or why most of the time. He's very hidden."
  83. "But as of late, he's been really resistant. He wants to get control. I'm scared. I don't want to be relegated in my own mind, body and SOUL."
  84. You ponder for a bit. This was an information dump. It felt just so sudden.
  85. How has he made it this far without ever telling you any of this? It's such a scary thought. Chara even took a 'liking' to you. What does that mean?
  86. It's scary. You can understand why Frisk kept this from you for so long. You want to know more. But he said it was all like snippets being thrown around in his head.
  87. One thing is in the back of your head. You want to talk to Chara. You want to hear all of this from him. If he even exists.
  88. Frisk wouldn't lie to you like this. Chara exists. He's in Frisk's mind.
  89. You need to talk to him.
  90. First, however. You need to help Frisk.
