Vanguard-class Warforged number six hundred and seventy-two is the prototype of a new line of our Warforged creations. It is designed to be capable of taking massive amounts of damage as well as dishing out heavy blows. Pure and simple, it is a war machine, and has no place in any non-combat role. It will undergo extensive physical testing in the days to come, which will be logged below. Additionally, it is designed with a bit more magic than some of the others, in an attempt to give it the power to commune with the Earth itself as a defensive measure.

Vanguard-class Warforged number six hundred and seventy-two has, in its first hours of activation, demonstrated that it identifies as a male and prefers to be referred to as such. A silly notion; we must tune down the magic influence a small bit in the next models; an identity of self is a wasteful thing for a Warforged, and will only lead to them being less willing to fight, should they also develop a desire for survival. Vanguard-class Warforged number six hundred and seventy-two has additionally demonstrated a desperate need to protect Esperaan life; potential usage as private bodyguards outside of a war zone, perhaps? When an attack was made on a D-class citizen for testing, VCW672 stepped in front of the blow and took it full on with no hesitation. Its reflexes, of course, leave something to be desired, but the metal is strong and it shows no signs of damage even from a genuine attempt to harm it. Overall, VCW672 is still childlike, and will potentially need to be put down as additional, improved Vanguard-class models step off the line.

ASSESSMENT: DATE, 17 MIRTUL 718
After extensive testing over the capabilities of the Vanguard-class line, it has been accepted that, despite the minor flaw in overshooting the amount of magic for number 672, it is worth keeping around. It seems to function as a leader for the other Vanguard-class Warforged, attempting to protect even them when necessary. It occasionally shows tendencies of over-hostility, particularly when introduced to something it has never been acquainted with before, but this is not necessarily a negative thing. Additionally, its armor holds up strong; its power to commune with the Earth spirits holds well and gives it even more vitality than one would expect. 672 will stay in commission indefinitely, with a high budget towards its repair in the event of catastrophic damage.

In the 13 months since the last assessment, the Warforged Revolution has fought and succeeded. In accordance with the treaty we have signed with their leader, we will be destroying all files kept on them. However, this file will remain in the hands of our Council in secret. While not the leader or primary instigator, VCW672 was one of the prime reasons the Warforged Revolution was such a terrible loss for the Esperaan race. Its leadership capabilities spread even further than we had anticipated, keeping even the most soulless of mechs interested in fighting for their freedom. Now in an arranged partnership with them, we have agreed to sign over production of new Warforged to their own kind. Additionally, we are formally considered allies, though I know no proud Esperaan who agrees with the statement. Elethos save us should we ever have to work together.

The Elemental War has begun. So soon after the end of the Warforged Revolution, the very elements of our world have turned against us. In our attempt to appease them and bring peace, our messengers have been burned alive, swallowed by chasms in the earth, drowned in flash floods, and thrown into trees by tornadoes. We have accepted that peace is not an option and entered negotiations with the Warforged to bring an assault to the Elements themselves; they have sent a forward party to attack in the Northern Mountains, with VCW672 as the leader. This log will be updated when more information about the attack is known.

LOG DATE: 15 ELEASIS, 721
VCW672 is missing in action, presumed killed in action. It—apologies, he—went on a forward scouting mission alone ahead of his party to check the area. The corpses of several Elemental soldiers were found, as well as a charred crater forty-one meters in radius, indicative of a lightning strike of godlike proportions. Nothing remained in the crater, and nothing was further along the trail; thus, it is assumed that VCW672 was killed in action by the lightning strike on his scouting party. Elethos help us, for without their general, the Warforged are falling into disarray.
