  2. Cold Steel 4 OST Review by かのこうたろう (Kano Koutarou) [Written in largely polite Japanese]
  3. The worst outsourcing in Falcom soundtrack history
  4.
  5. The two current members of Sound Team jdk have been working there for approximately 10 to 20 years. Through their long history of soundtrack contributions players have become familiar with each of their music styles to the point where you can largely identify which composer makes which song, even if there is no official crediting.
  6.
  7. Therefore, the main problem seems to be outsourcing.
  8.
  9. If I were to state the greatest strength of past Falcom music contractors, it's that they compensated for the weaknesses of the internal team using their own strengths. For example, Mr. Jindo and his Hollywood-style orchestra and electronic rock, along with Mr. Kamikura and Mr. Okajima's rock music, fusion rock, pop music, and so forth. With this application of their talents in a support role, these contractors were able to expertly cover for the deficiencies of the internal team.
  10.
  11. However, in regards to the most recent outsourcing, the contractor is now worse than the internal team. What is the meaning of this?
  12.
  13. Using Cold Steel 4 as an example, from the most played big-shot battle themes to the minigames, there has been way too much outsourcing. WAAAAY too much outsourcing! These songs seem to have been officially claimed as "Falcom music" in the most unnatural way.
  14.
  15. To put it in the bluntest way possible, this new contractor can't hold a candle to Mr. Jindo, Mr. Okajima, and Mr. Kamikura. Ironically, he's not as good as the internal team either. With this setup you are not "compensating for weaknesses" anymore, you are just further exposing the ones that are already there.
  16.
  17. Speaking of which, regarding the CS4 ending theme "Ai no Uta"... what the hell is this low budget hentai anime theme song doing in a Trails game? Truly incorrigible. When I first heard it, I was overcome with disbelief.
  18. From a company that once proudly put out famous tunes in great numbers.
  19. From a company that once earned the pinnacle of pride from its fans regarding music.
  20. Aren't you overcome with shame when using such cheap musical junk to conclude the Cold Steel series?
  21.
  22. In recent years, the impression has been that Falcom is short staffed, and that outsourcing is an unfortunate necessity. Despite this, I feel that contracting a completely unskilled amateur to this degree is completely unnatural.
  23. Do you really have need of such lousy contracting? Are you OK with bringing shame to the name of Falcom?
  24. No matter how much I think about this situation, I can't comprehend why this is happening.
  25. Please stop dirtying the reputation of Sound team JDK.
