- The Department:
- The woman leaned back in her office chair and stretched. Every single one of her upper body muscles felt as though it was beaten and bruised. Even her feet were throbbing with the familiar ache of someone sitting in one position for over 8 hours. But a deadline is a deadline. If she didn't finish this project by before midnight, her high-end career would turn into a figurative pumpkin, and the only glass slipper she would be dealing with is one full of cheap wine. Arching her back and stretching her legs out, she felt a small pop on her chest as her black blouse refused to contain her. She gave a laugh and buttoned herself back up, thankful that this happened when the department was empty. She sat back up in her chair, straightened her back, put on her VR headset, and engaged her 3D-Office program.
- Immediately she was drawn into a whorl of facts, figures, and models, floating all around her in cyberspace. Beneath the lenses, her eyes narrowed as she hunted for the right file. There. With a flick of her wrist, it floated from the periphery to the center of her vision, expanding and providing a detailed view of the latest report. With another small movement, her playlist resumed where she left off, as the sounds of Vivaldi filled her ears. Looking at the report, she began collating it with the other report, her eyes periodically flickering between the two of them. A third file opened as more data danced before her.
- There! She knew what she was looking for - several years of training let her know where to look and approximately where to expect to discrepancy. Her tongue ran over her dried lips as her breath sped up. She was closing in on it, just a few seconds more -
- Her train of thought was interrupted by a harsh noise that overpowered the classical composer as a message saying "Incoming Phone Call: Building Security" flashed in front of her. She exhaled in frustration as her concentration was broken. She waved her hand dismissively in its direction and the call connected.
- "Miss _____?"
- "Yes?"
- "I was just calling to tell you that the building has officially closed and I'm heading out for the night. You'll have to close up."
- "That's fine, Peter, thank you."
- "You know where the keys are and everything?"
- "Yes, Peter, thank you. I know where they are."
- "All right, Miss _____. Have a good night!"
- "You too, Peter."
- She gave a small exasperated sigh. The building closed at 7. Now it would take her about ten minutes to get back into the groove of things, before she could really get to work. Once she teased the error out, she'd need to expand on it, find the root cause - that part was at least easy - then attach the file she'd been working on from home, and send it via the intra-net. Then she could go home and finally relax. She stood up from her computer desk. Might as well go and take a break, she thought. Stretch her legs out, and grab a drink.
- Stepping softly on the carpeted floors, she walked towards the the small cafeteria area. Grinning at herself, she began to exaggerate her movements ever so slightly, confident in that she was alone. Bending over, she popped the fridge open, grabbing a soon-to-be-refreshing can of Monster Energy Zero Ultra. Popping it open she stood back up. Unfortunately this was the exact time when her heel decided to break, as she fell over backwards. Instead of tumbling to the ground, however, she heard a muffled "oof" as she felt something solid cushion her fall. The drink somersaulted in the air and with a small cry she rolled out of the way. Instead of falling and spilling on the floor, there was a flash similar to old TV static, as the shape of a human clothed in some kind of dark body-suit appeared on the floor next to her. Panting she jumped up, looking at him. "Who are you?!" she exclaimed as she backed away from him on unsteady legs.
- The man's face was obscured by a mask that periodically flickered on and off, concealing him from vision, then flashing into the visible spectrum again. Grabbing her phone she took a photo of him, then another, then a third. She looked at the man who was just lying there, Monster around his head. "Hey, you all right," she asked, as she noticed that the man was taking very shallow and slow breaths, and not moving. "Shit, I think I killed him," she muttered out loud. She looked at her phone, ready to call security - but then she remembered that she was all alone in the building. Her eyes narrowed at the lying figure in front of her. "Don't move anywhere," she admonished the still form, as she ran back to her desk, kicking off her shoes while she was doing so.
- When she opened her desk, she grabbed the rope and handcuffs that she always had in the back of the drawer. Slamming it closed, she stood back up, and walked back to the figure. She didn't want to involve the police. Maybe this was just a harmless prank by one of the students, or a co-worker prank. She stopped as she ran that by herself again. A co-worker or a student having a light-bending stealth suit? Yeah, okay, good joke. She shook her head as she squatted down, and began to bind the man. Her hands worked deftly, starting from his feet that she bound the strongest - several loops around his ankles, a couple across his thighs. Her eyebrow went up as she passed a couple of loops over his upper thighs and buttocks. Biting her lip, she gave the latter a light squeeze, as she gave a nervous laugh. Moving upwards, she positioned his hands behind him, as she looped the knots in such a fashion that if he tried to break free, it would just tighten around him. Next, a couple of loops around his pecs, which she also gave a small rub. She gave a quick shake of her head, as she placed the final loop around his chest, finishing the knot out of his reach. She slowly reached and peeled off his mask.
- Beneath it was unsurprisingly a man. What was surprising was the neat, shortly-cropped beard with several small flecks of grey hairs in it. His eyes were large and deep-set, currently closed beneath some of the thickest eyebrows she's seen. There was a pleasant curve to his mouth, which was slightly spoiled by the fact that it was currently partly open, breath whistling from it. A widow's peak of black hair finished the ensemble, along with a fairly non-descript nose, and a strong jaw. His body was built like that of a swimmer, accentuated by the skin-tight bodysuit, that has seemed to stabilize into the visible since the mask was removed. As she was tying him up, she didn't feel a weapon, but just to make sure, she patted him down, making sure to touch all parts of his of body, feeling the definite power of his muscles, and their definition. "Momma likes," she muttered, as she cupped in between his legs, to make sure there was no weapon concealed there. She groaned internally at the implication of that thought, but gave a small laugh nonetheless.
- She stood back up and looked at the prone form. "What am I supposed to do with you," she said out loud, cognizant of the fact that she probably should call campus security. And yet... she was curious. The man was unarmed and entirely within her power - he was no danger to her. Still, she was nervous. Her hands undid the top button of her blouse, to give her a greater range of movement, and to wipe away the trickle of sweat between her breasts. She closed her eyes, exhaled, and bent over to pick up the can of Monster. She then upended it over his face.
