- Ratman was born to a noble house in the Arcane Unity, but due to years of inbreeding he was born with a horrifically elongated face and hairy patches all over his skin. His mother was horrified and threw him into the gutter, claiming that she had had a miscarriage. However, young ratman would not die in that sewer. A pack of dire rats mistook him for one of their own thanks to his horrific appearance and general demeanor. He lived a happy rat childhood until his parents died at the ripe old age of 10. This left 9 year old Ratman to fend for himself. People with legitimate businesses didn’t tend to want to hire deformed children that smelled like the sewers, so he turned to a life of delinquency. While he never became a hardened criminal with major underworld connections, he did forage through garbage for food often enough to come in contact with Gor’eutch the small otyugh, who would send him on odd jobs in exchange for “introducing him to new friends” (giving him rats).Growing up surrounded by feats of arcane wonder, Ratman felt that the greatest of all creatures, the rats, were underappreciated by the denizens of the Unity. As such, he vowed to find/help create a rat so perfect that it would astound those who previously could not comprehend the splendor of rats.
- His exploits:
- -Driving off one of Gor’Eautch’s rivals by cutting off their eyestalk and beating them with it, before using it as a scarf.
- -Surviving the sewers despite being a young child.
- -Considering himself a “hero of the rat militia” (composed of himself and two abnormally large rats). To honor this, crafted himself his own military jacket out of “lesser beings” (any non-rat creature unfortunate enough to enter the sewers.
- -Taught himself to read at a young age, despite obvious roadblocks (being raised by rats, etc).
- - Inventor of the “Musical Rock” (a piece of chipped sewer wall that is played by being banged against different surfaces. Imagine the worst drumstick in the world)
- -Pissing off the mob and living to tell the tale
- Alignment: Lawful Neutral (opportunistic, follows “rat code”)
- Character traits:
- -Impressionable,
- -Ethics dictated by sewer experience (theft ok, murder not), no qualms with getting hands dirty, ends justify means
- Bond:
- -Strong sense of morality (addendum: this morality was developed over a lifetime of crimes and sewer life, so while his morals are steadfast, they are not necessarily up to the standards of say a paladin)
- Flaws:
- -Arrogant (except towards rats)
- -Socially inept
- -Questionable morals
- -generally unhygienic
- Equipment:
- Handmade jacket, rat-spine daggers, otyugh scarf, musical rock, one stolen alms box that “looked good” (used for storage of musical rock), Rapier coincidentally stolen from original parents (of note, it was actually meant to go to their firstborn son), one completely ubiquitous shortsword, and a burglar’s pack that was “seized” from a “loiterer” (mob grunt attempting to clean sewer)
- What you know about me: I am a snakeman, I’m under contract with someone I alternatingly call “Zaladon” and “Faceless Dickhead” who makes me do goody-two shoes shit and keep promises (of note: I can lie, but I can’t break any oath). You know if I break our contract I start bleeding out from the neck. I’m a snake-person, but regularly pass myself off as human because snake people are assholes, one and all. We met through Gor’Eutsch, an otyugh information broker. We worked together doing a smear campaign on a public health official who wanted to clean up the sewers.
