- Covet: -Eli was sitting in one of the lounge chairs with an ordering catalog in his hands. He was going over up and coming merch to get pre ordered for the next month. He looked around to see the few groups of people and regulars that were about the shop, every once in a while.-
- Tsaaq: Bliss rolled into the comic shop and looked around before going over to the counter. "Hello dear." She greeted, tilting her head so she could look at him from her spot.
- Covet: Well hello there Beautiful. -Eli said looking up from what he doing, he got up to walk over and give her a kiss on the cheek- How are you toinght?
- Tsaaq: She smiled at him a moment then shrugged her shoulders. "I'm fine. Was tired of milling about my house, I had Drew drop me off here." She answered him. "And you're working I'm assuming?" She asked.
- Covet: Well that was nice of him.-He gave her a smile, and looked across the shop again- I am indeed, but it's a pretty slow night over all. Just getting some ordering stuff out of the way.
- Tsaaq: "I suppose." Bliss replied with a bit of a purse of her lips. "Yeah I can see that." She glanced about the store. "But it's a good way to spend the downtime I suppose. How're our reports lately?" Bliss inquired.
- Covet: Everything has been steady. We're staying in the green, but we've kind of leveled out a little bit. -He told her then furrowed his brow- I've been slacking on Cosplay dress up events. But to be honest I've kind of had a mental block as far as ideas go.
- Tsaaq: She nodded her head slowly then waved her hand a bit. "It's the summer, it probably would be problematic to have a lot of people in here dressed up. The potential hygiene issues are troubling anyway. At any rate you'll figure something out." Bliss assure him. "But what about staff morale and productivity, has that been okay?" She asked him looking a little more concerned.
- Covet: Very true, I hadn't quite thought of that. -He said with a nod then thought about things for a moment- Um...Morale has been good, I think. Same with productivity. We recently hired Hayley on partime for now. Had to get after her for her outfit once, but I haven't heard any complaints from anyone.
- Tsaaq: "See?" She said before tilting her head at him a moment. "Oh yeah she told me she started working here but uh, her outfit?" Bliss repeated with a raise of her eyebrow.
- Covet: -Eli nodded- Yeah, She was wearing something that was a little more revealing than what would be acceptable, employee attire. She seemed to take the conversation about it well though.
- Tsaaq: She furrowed her eyebrows at him. "Hm." She hummed a moment. "I wasn't aware we had a dress code." Bliss said quietly then shrugged her shoulders.
- Covet: It's a very casual dress code, but we can't have people walking around with half of their body showing. It would have been more acceptable if she had a bikini top or something on underneath, but she was showing quite a lot. -Eli explained, looking at her- This is still a family place too, last thing I want is disgruntled parents coming in complaining.
- Tsaaq: Her eyebrows remained furrowed. "Remember when I cosplayed as Cortana?" Bliss asked. "If I recall I was basically in nothing but I don't remember you saying any of those things to me." She said a bit skeptically.
- Covet: Yes, I remember this. You were also covered in body paint. It wasn't bare skin. It was also a special dress up event. Not an everyday thing. -He said looking at her, confused- I wasn't trying to single her out or anything, and if any of the other people working here were to show up in something that showed off anything more than necessary, I would have told them the same thing.
- Tsaaq: "So I was essentially naked but it's different because I was blue?" Bliss said with her eyes squinted. "It's just-" She began to say. "It just sounds a little upsetting frankly. Why wasn't it a cause for concern then if we're trying to mantain a 'family friendly' reputation? I mean, what's the difference to a parent whether I'm blue or not?" Bliss said. "Yes I understand you were but, you never had to. And I just find your reasoning behind it a little odd. That's all."
- Covet: -Eli closed his eyes and sighed- I understand your concern, believe me I do. I promise this isn't me being objective or playing favorites. But you were wearing a bathing suit, and covered in blue paint. As far as dress code goes, for customers or employees, That is acceptable. What isn't acceptable is someone who works here, wearing a shirt that shows off half of their bare breast. I have no problem with her wearing those sort of things if she comes in here as a customer, but when she's working, I explained to her that the attire needed to be something that was a little more appropriate. I explained it to her that day, and beforehand when she applied. I haven't had to bring it up before, beause it was something that was generally undestood. Most of the people that work here were from the old shop, and I know that you and Adam just aren't the type to show up in something that was normally that revealing.
- Tsaaq: "You don't think those regulations favor males to start with so it's already not really that fair?" Bliss asked him. "I mean, even if a male employee came in shirtless what parent would complain about that? Saying that about a woman's breasts is just sexualizing something all women have. Would you tell a woman to get out of our store if she began to breastfeed her child because we're trying to 'mantain a family friendly' reputation?" She asked. "You don't think those ideals are already biased?"
- Covet: Bliss, please don't get worked up over this. It's really nothing more than the attire being respectful. Business casual. I had the same conversation with Jamie when he applied. If a male employee came in without a shit, I wouldn't need the parents to complain, because I would be the first one to tell him, to put a shirt on. I completely understand that every woman has them, I'm not sexualizing her or anyone specifically because of what they have or don't have. If a woman began breastfeeding her child in here, and anyone started harassing her, I would ask the harasser, politely to leave, because feeding your child is family friendly. -He did his best to explain to her-
- Covet: *without a shirt, not without a shit.
- Tsaaq: She shook her head. "If you weren't sexualizing her breasts then it wouldn't be a 'family friendly' issue in the first place. But I suppose so." Bliss shrugged. "Of course Hayley isn't going to object or anything but what it all comes down to is you're using male established ideals to opress her. You said it yourself you've never had these issues before, why? Because primarily male staff. But I guess it's none of my business." She sighed before rolling away.
- Covet: I'm not trying to opress her. I promise. I told her the same thing about when she came in as a customer, versus when she's here working. I comes down to, I can't have staff walking around half naked, on shift. That comes down from Monica. -He looked at her, and gave her a defeated look- It is new territory to have female staff here, yes. I expected it to have it's own issues, but I wasn't going to exclude them from working, because everyone deserves to embrace their inner nerd. However, if it's going to be this big of a hot button issue, because of other concerns, then I might consider looking into some sort of uniform options so that there isn't any animosity between genders here. Everyone is on the same level here, I can't make everyone who comes in here, understand and accept that. -Eli said as he started getting things wrapped up for the night.-
- Tsaaq: "I was just speaking my mind on the matter that's all." Bliss said with her hands raised a bit. "Whatever you choose to do is up to you. I personally don't think it's right or fair. But perhaps I'm overstepping my boundaries." She sighed. "And if she doesn't feel upset about it I suppose it doesn't matter but if I were put in that situation I'd be a little offended, that's all. That's the only point I wanted to make."
- Covet: How is it not right or fair to expect employees to dress semi professionally, when they are at work? -Eli said confused- Every business out there expects as much. I did my best not to make any of what I said offensive to her. I didn't want to make it into something like this. -He sighed as he counted out the til, feeling sort of guilty, but not really sure why- I'm not trying to be a bad guy, or sexist or anything, just a responsible manager.
- Tsaaq: "Well think about who decided the definition of 'professional' and all of those other loaded terms. It wasn't agreed upon by a man and a woman I'll tell you that much. Decided is the key term here." She said before going to roll over to the coffee table, aimlessly straightening up. "I know you're not, I'm just telling you what I think of the situation." Bliss sighed. "I think that when it comes to how a company or business is run it's important to be a little more progressive with ideas but that's just me. It doesn't mean you have to change anything neccesarily, what's done is done."
- Covet: I agree with you, they should be a little more progressive. I'm all for that. For here it's about having a general audience acception. That means we have to include everyone to find a middle ground. If we stopped allowing children to come in here, then we could most definitely accept letting people come in completely topless to work. I would expect nothing less. But that's not going to make us a successful business, in this area and that's excluding a huge demographic. -He gave her a soft smile, as he watched the other people clear out of the shop the close to closing it got- I am open to any ideas to help make this place as inclusive and equal as possible, though. I like to think we've done quite a few progressive things here. I would like to continue that trend.
- Tsaaq: She pursed her lips. "It's not excluding anyone. Did anyone actually complain the day you said her breast was halfway out? That right there should be an answer alone. The only reason children find it inappropriate is because they're institutionalized to think so. Those things are learned. It's like saying we shouldn't allow a transperson in here because of the children. First off you're undermining the children's perception, secondly you're going by societal norms that already supress female voices and personalities. If dressing that way is her personality and it harms no one who's to say she shouldn't do it? It's sexist Eli. It doesn't matter how you dress it up. It all comes down to being sexist and it isn't your fault it's ideas that have been put in your head that you can't shake because that's normal to you. But just because it's normal doesn't make it right. But this is a moot conversation anyways, what's done is done I suppose." Bliss murmured, going towards the door.
- Covet: I feel like you are putting words or ideas in my mouth. -Eli said with a frown- I don't have anything against anyone, for any of their life choices. I do, however, think that there is an appropriate time and place to be expossed and it's not at work, unless your work entails that. That goes if you are male, female, Trans, alien, superhuman or otherwise. That's not sexist, that's just me being a little prudish, if anything. I don't feel like there is a way for me not to feel like a bad guy, just because of the expectation to wear appropriate clothes for the job. We've done nothing to supress female voices and personalities in this shop. We support and encourage women in this genre of life, in this shop. -He groaned and finished what he was doing, before walking over to the computers to shut them down for the night, and walk over to the front door to lock it.-
- Tsaaq: Bliss rolled her eyes and rolled out the front door. "I think you're getting defensive but putting yourself in other people's shoes is a way more constructie way to go about this. It's easy to say everyone is equal without acting on it." She sighed before looking down at her phone and holding it to her ear.
- Covet: By not allowing anyone to dress that way, I am being equal. -He said quietly to himself, then shook his head- Are you heading back to your Dad's? -he Asked her raising an eyebrow?-
- Tsaaq: "You know the only person who does is Hayley, so no. You're not. You're suppressing her personality and honestly I'm disgusted." Bliss said flatly. She rose her index finger to him. "Yes I'm at the comic book shop, it'd be nice if you picked me up quickly. It's late. Thank you." She said before hanging up her phone. "Yes, I am." Bliss said in a deadpan tone.
- Covet: I can't help that nobody else does it, Bliss. But if they did, or when they do, I will give them the exact same words I gave Hayley. I cant' help that she was the first one in the existence of this shop, to do that. It has nothing to do with her gender, or her personality. It's about what was discussed and what she, and every other employee has agreed to do, by working here. If that makes me an opressive, sexist disgusting jerk, well then I guess that's what I am. But I can't just let the employees run around the shop half dressed. Period. -He dropped his hands and unlocked the shop. Standing by the door to watch her until her ride showed up, because he wasn't just going to leave her on the street by herself this late.-
- Tsaaq: Bliss shook her head angrily. "Wow, alright. At least you've admitted it but you're still avoiding stepping outside of yourself so you could see how she might feel." She said softly. She looked over her shoulder and shook her head. "Please go. I don't want to speak to you, I don't want to be around you right now." Bliss scoffed.
- Covet: Bliss you said yourself if she is fine with it, than there shouldn't be an issue. She didn't have an issue with it, You do. And you seem to think that I'm secretly some sexist monster all of a sudden, just because I don't agree with you. I can't make everyone happy in this situation, by making one person happy. I don't know what you want me to tell you. -He stepped inside the door and closed it, standing on the other side until he knew she was off safely. Once she was he made his way upstairs to go flop into bed,-
