  1. “We use this for the modern witch hunt.”
  2. He held a scrap of paper in front of Kamijou’s face. It was a largish paper doll that really
  3. did look like it had been cut out of a piece of copy paper with scissors. It had a simple head
  4. and limbs, but the overall balance was off. It apparently only had to look vaguely
  5. humanoid.
  6. “What is that…?”
  7. “Keep your mouth shut. I don’t want you biting your tongue.”
  8. With that cold comment, Stiyl Magnus shoved his lit cigarette into the paper doll’s right
  9. leg.
  10. “Welcome, Kamijou Touma, to London, the city of fog, magic, and torture.”
  11. It immediately came off.
  12. The boy’s right leg burned and carbonized until the bone was visible and it fell off at the
  13. knee.
  14. “Ah, bah!?”
  15. He was reminded of the delicious part of fried chicken.
  16. The end of the chicken leg bone. This was like a much larger version of that round bit of
  17. bone covered in cartilage that quivered like thick, translucent gelatin.
  18. “Owwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!???”
  19. “Oh, you can actually scream? I thought for sure your eyes would roll back in your head
  20. and you would pass out with the very first move, but you must have a fair amount of
  21. experience with this sort of thing. Well, that will only make this all the more hellish for
  22. you.”
  23. Kamijou screamed and struggled, but Stiyl only observed him with the look of a child
  24. tearing the legs off of a bug. Then he pressed the cigarette against the paper doll’s lower
  25. stomach.
  26. It was like watching plastic melt. With a strange odor, the skin blistered and burst, the
  27. muscles snapped, and an internal pressure caused more and more of a thick substance to
  28. spill out. His vision flashed in and out and his view of the room grew blurry for a reason
  29. other than tears.
  30. The only thing he could hear anymore was the mechanically emotionless voice repeating
  31. itself.
  32. “Why did you set foot in this country? Whose idea was it? How much does it have to do
  33. with Lola Stuart’s sudden disappearance and the Crowley’s Hazards?”
  34. But at this point, Kamijou finally realized something.
  35. One of his legs had fallen off, but he could not escape the chair’s belts no matter how much
  36. he struggled. That meant the restraints on all his limbs were still in place. Even though
  37. one of those limbs should not have been there anymore.
  38. “Ah, ahh…?”
  39. “Yes?”
  40. “You aren’t actually…burning me with fire. You’re using that doll…yes, using it to send
  41. just the sensation to me.”
  42. “Knowing that does not allow you to escape the pain and suffering,” explained Stiyl while
  43. holding the end of the cigarette right in front of the paper doll’s face.
  44. It was the same as the urban legend of the purple mirror that said something bad would
  45. happen if you did not forget about it before you turned twenty. It did not matter whether
  46. or not you understood how it worked. The more you tried to reject it, the more you would
  47. focus on it and the more you would fall into its trap.
  48. “This is a professional tool. There is no escape. Just like hypnotism and red-hot tongs, it
  49. does not actually influence your physical body. Thus, it cannot rapidly raise your blood
  50. pressure and cause you to die of shock. Taking extreme levels of damage but being unable
  51. to die is hell itself. This is a hell designed by human hands to hunt witches.”
