  6. I think the balloon is supposed to convince us that "Koko" is such a gentle and civilised creature that she can avoid popping the delicate balloon. Then again, there could be a hundred popped balloons that are just out of the camera's view. The same goes for the kittens. It could be that "Koko" has never injured a kitten while handling it, but then again "Koko" could have injured/killed many!
  7.
  8. We are told an imaginative story about one kitten called "All Ball" that died in the care of "Koko". The story goes that it escaped the gorilla's enclosure and got run over by a logging truck. When you watch how other gorillas treat kittens, the story is dubious. Example: watch?v=gK_kjrBT5hA
  9.
  10. With that clip in mind, it makes more sense that "Koko" sat on the kitten or flung it about the enclosure until it died. If the kitten did "escape" (or flee), it was to get the crikey away from that hairy monster it had been locked up with!

  12. But, if you trust "Dr. Penny Paterson" then you won't doubt it escaped and got run over by a truck. Here's "Koko" reacting to the devastating news which she evidently understood: watch?v=CQCOHUXmEZg

  14. If any western lowland gorilla could be faked, it would be "Koko" the "talking gorilla". But, even if "Koko" is a real gorilla, then the language claims made about her are undoubtedly exaggerated. Given the limited way "Koko" is presented (has anyone ever seen "Koko" climbing anything?), it's hard to know what's real and what's fantasy.
