  1. Mystery Tournament Basics:
  2.
  3. PRE-TOURNAMENT
  4. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5.
  6. 1) Register here! http://speedrunslive.challonge.com/srlmystery7
  7. Even if you're not sure you'll have time to participate or find games to submit, you should still register if you have any
  8. interest. You can always unenter or we can remove you if things don't work out. The more entrants we have, the more appealing
  9. it is for others to register, too. You're helping us out just by putting your name on the roster!
  10.
  11. 2) Fill out the contact form here: http://bombch.us/BQ_0
  12. We need your information so we can yell at you if you disappear! This will also help players find their opponents and schedule
  13. their matches during the tournament.
  14.
  15. 3) Become acquainted with the format and rules.
  16. All information you need can be found on our site: mystery.beatthega.me. Please familiarize yourself with how the tournament
  17. works so you aren't overwhelmed when it's time to start competing. Most importantly, please review the game submission rules as
  18. soon as you can to prepare for the next step.
  19.
  20. 4) Submit some games.
  21. To participate, every entrant needs to submit at least two games. This is often the hard part for newcomers as the submission
  22. rules (found on the mystery site) may seem to be fairly restrictive and daunting. Once you have a feel for the rules and know
  23. where to look, however, finding a few solid games to submit will be quite painless. If you need help getting started, the
  24. following sources may do the trick:
  25.
  26. SpeedRunsLive game list and race history
  27. Retro game lists (e.g. hardcoregaming101.net)
  28. Hidden gem lists (e.g. racketboy.com)
  29. Youtube console/indie compliation videos
  30. Freeware and/or indie game databases (by far the most potential for good, obscure picks, such as gamejolt, indiegames,
  31. indiedb, pixelprospector, wip.warpdoor, and countless others)
  32.
  33. Once you find some games, be sure to test them to find a good goal, work on your Pastebin containing important notes for
  34. racers, and use the appropriate emulators provided in our bundle here: http://bombch.us/BRDo
  35.
  36. 5) Recruit a friend.
  37. We all want to make these events as big as we possibly can, so we'd be extremely appreciative of you trying to get as many of
  38. your friends to join as possible. You may have noticed a recruitment question in the contact form. As an extra incentive,
  39. whoever receives the most mentions as a recruiter in this form will be rewarded with a Steam game after the tournament begins!
  40.
  41. 6) Wait.
  42. After your games are in, you just need to wait for the tournament to begin. Check mystery.beatthega.me and @SRLMystery on
  43. Twitter from time to time for updates, but more importantly hang out in #mystery on the SpeedRunsLive irc
  44. (irc.speedrunslive.com) whenever you can! If you have any questions, you can ask us there. Conversely, if we have any questions
  45. for you, such as concerns with your game submissions, it'll make it that much easier to communicate with you. You'll need to be
  46. in that channel somewhat often when the tournament is running anyway, so you may as well join sooner than later!
  47.
  48.
  49. TOURNAMENT
  50. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  51.
  52. 1) Keep up with brackets and be in #mystery.
  53. Brackets will be generated a few days before the tournament begins, so we recommend finding your opponent as soon as you can
  54. and getting your match scheduled. Naturally, you should continue to do this as soon as you know who your opponent is in
  55. subsequent rounds. Continuing to hang out in #mystery is the best way to do this. If you can't find your opponent there,
  56. check the contact info database in the channel's topic to find out how you can reach them!
  57.
  58. 2) Have your emulators prepared.
  59. Make sure all emulators in the bundle provided on mystery.beatthega.me (also linked above) are working for you. This will
  60. greatly help you and your opponent reduce setup time when you're ready to do your match. If you have any problems, you can use
  61. alternative emulators, although they must not be banned on SpeedRunsLive (see site's FAQ for list). Once again, all
  62. recommended emulators are provided in this bundle: http://bombch.us/BRDo
  63.
  64. 3) Play your match.
  65. When you and your opponent are in #mystery are ready to race, one player should say "GIVEGAME" in chat. An admin will
  66. randomize a game from the pool and announce the console ONLY. Players should start streaming at this point ideally with the
  67. appropriate emulator started while the admin works on starting your race. Once both streams are up, both players are in the
  68. new race channel, and both players have entered the race, the game is announced and the download and Pastebin links are given.
  69. When both players are ready, the race will begin.
  70.
  71. Some rule reminders:
  72. Do not look up information on the game, watch your opponent's stream, or read chat if your viewers attempt to assist you
  73. (immediately close it if this happens).
  74.
  75. Once the match is over, admins will report the results on the Challonge brackets. Now you simply wait for your next opponent to
  76. be determined if it hasn't already been done, play your next match, and repeat until you are either eliminated or become the
  77. champion!
