  1. Pamela Wedgwood studies French Horn, Cello, Piano and Composition at the Trinity College of Music London. After graduating, she started a career as a professional horn player before taking up an appointment as a private instrumental music teacher in Surrey in the late 1970s.
  2. Pam began her long association with Faber Music in 1988 with the high acclaimed series “Jazzin' About”, followed by the “Upgrade!” series and the adult piano method “It's |Never Too Late To Play Piano”. She is recognised as one of the UK's most prolific and successful composers of popular material for young instrumentalists.

  4. Wheels Of Time is a relatively quick piece from the book “Jazzin' About”, and is of a Grade 3-5 standard. The time signature is 2/4 although the majority of the piece is played in semiquavers, often overlapped with quavers. The piece sometimes contains discordant intervals and frequent accidentals, meaning more advanced music reading capabilities are needed.

  6. Jack In A Juke Box is a rock and roll piece from the book “Jazzin' About”, however it has a completely different feel to the above mentioned Wheels Of Time. It has a typical rock and roll bass pattern, however the right hand melody is independent of this; it is often offbeat. This means it is more suited to a more accomplished pianist as over time your hands can start to work independently. There are many accidentals and accented notes which add to the expression of the piece.

  8. Guns N' Roses are an American rock band formed in 1985, which now comprises of lead vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarists Richard Fortus and DJ Ashba, rhythm guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer. Axl Rose is the only founding member of the band. Their debut album, Appetite For Destruction, is the highest selling album of all time worldwide. They are arguably one of the greatest rock bands ever formed. When they started, Ozzy Osbourne described them as “the next Rolling Stones”.

  10. Sweet Child O' Mine was the third single from Guns N' Roses, and was their first and only Number 1 in America on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The bass section features a number of different properties which make it more suited to an intermediate bassist. It goes as high as the sixteenth fret, and makes use of acciacaturas as well as sliding up and down the fretboard. It has numerous fills, which require careful tracking of where you are in the piece. It also modulates to a different key at the end. There are triplets and use of many different note values.

  12. Foo Fighters are an American alternative rock band formed by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl after its collapse, however he is the vocalist in the band. The band currently consists of Dave Grohl, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Mate Mendel and Taylor Hawkins. They have released seven albums and won six Grammy Awards in total.

  14. The Pretender is one of their most successful songs, beaten only by Learn To Fly and Best Of You.
  15. The bass part is minimal to begin with, however it does thicken out. It makes use of hammer-ons and slides up and down the fretboard, going as high as the seventeenth fret. The song also features a change of tempo, so this is a beginner/intermediate song.
