- A Legacy Item is a powerful item that has significant history. Though PC's may create legacy items through their own adventures - these items follow different rules. GM created Legacy Items are borderline artifacts that contain an unique array of abilities and are called "Discovered" Legacy Items. PC created Legacy Items earn enchantments rather than unique abilities and are called "Created" Legacy Items.
- Despite the two different types of Legacy Items, both cannot embark on their path of growth without first discovering, or setting, its significance. In this case for Discovered LI (short for Legacy Items) Education Checks regarding the items history or it can be discovered in the area that it was found (tomes regarding the items history may be nearby, the environment may tell the tale of the item, a NPC may know about, etc. - though this is purely up to the GM). For Created LI, this will start the point of which the items tale begins. In either case, a minimum of 1000 Pokédollars must be spent during an Extended Rest of which the character and the item spend together (the character does not recover HP, injuries or anything else during this period) to "awaken" the item. Once a LI is awakened by a character it is attuned to that character. Attunement will be explained more later.
- Once awakened, LI will gain experience similar to Pokémon. Whenever actively worn by the character in an encounter that awards Pokémon experience, the LI also gains experience. It gains the experience awarded to Pokémon, split among any other LI equipped by the attuned character - though this experience is not split from the Pokémon also earning the experience.
- LI can also gain experience by consuming crystals at a rate of 10 experience per 50 value. LI has a maximum level equal to that of the character it is attuned to.
- DLI (Discovered Legacy Items) gain particular abilities at specific levels and generally have 'default' abilities at LV1.
- CLI (Created Legacy Items) are capable of self-enchantment with a total DC equal to its current level. Any enchantments the CLI grants itself permanently consumes that amount of levels for enchantment. For example, a LV20 CLI with a DC10 enchantment leaves only 10 levels of room for any further enchantments.
- DLI and CLI cannot be enchantment by normal means.
- DLI and CLI become attuned when they are awakened to the character who awakens them. They only bestow their abilities to those they're attuned by and only gain experience when equipped by those same characters. Should the character it is attuned to dies, or should the character renounce attunement (willingly and requires the same extended rest with the item that awakened it - though without the monetary cost) the item no longer is attuned to that character and can become attuned to another - starting over from its default LV1 power and must grow from that power just as it had with its previous owner.
