- En—the broker of fate, the vulture, the predator, rich in blood-stained gold and souls reaped from tragedy.
- A hand wreathed in delicate runes, accompanied by desperate pleas and hushed, hurried prayers, reaches to the shadows. In turn, from those shadows emerges a skeletal, pale hand, whose long fingers tangle into theirs and whose sharp nails begin to dig into their wrists, seeking the crimson by which it will pen a forsaken contract.
- En was once the reigning God of Fate and Chaos, worshiped by Human and Segharvan tribes the world over. He was associated with blind luck and fortune.
- Many personality traits have been ascribed to En; the more fortunate would see him as generous and loving, and the less fortunate would see him as cruel and uncaring. The truest interpretation of En was as a cold, grimly curious accountant, willing to cook the books of fate in times of desperation in exchange for a great cost. Worshiped as a god, En cared almost nothing for his devout, only for that which they could offer him; through small sacrifices of coin and valuable trinkets, he might be convinced to tip the scales a bit, but never without some kind of payment.
- Those invisible changes to the flow of things were what he was best known for, but over time En garnered a reputation for something else. In times of need and desperation, En might step out of the shadows and offer his assistance, but only for the right price. He might appear to a vagrant at the lowest point in their life and offer them vast riches only if they would pledge their afterlife to serve the machine he represented. He might appear at the bedside of a dying man, and offer to his weeping spouse a chance to trade her life for his. He might emerge from the flames that have consumed a town, offering the last survivor a chance to escape, if only they would agree to some twisted magical experiment he had concocted.
- En was, first and foremost, the personification of a cold, uncaring and capricious world, whose fate was not controlled by some manner of karma or justice but merely by the chaotic whims of the stars, a fate which could only be changed by great sacrifice or great luck. En's deals were never unfair, but never generous. Nowadays, he is sparsely worshiped and all but forgotten as mortalkind has become more sure of its agency over destiny. He is still closely associated with Wild Magic due to his chaotic nature, and worshiped by small cults and many Wild Magic elementals and witches who keep his religion alive. His power has withered, but still he appears to a scant few, offering them his grim deals or silently pulling strings.
- En's associated afterlife is the [[Dead Machine]], his dreary and grey world full primarily of [[Embers]] who have withered along with his power, among steel corridors and clockwork machines. Here, once, those he struck deals with or some of his most devout worshipers would operate the Machine of Fate, the vast device by which he once controlled the ebb and flow of things.
