  1. >They won't let her see him.
  2. >Every day, she calls up to the hospital to speak with the receptionist, who at this point has opted to just put her on hold indefinitely.
  3. >It's not fair.
  4. >None of this is fair. Or right.
  5. >She should be angry. Angry at him.
  6. >For being sick? No. Not for that. She isn't stupid.
  7. >For what, then?
  8. >Why, the answer is obvious: for sticking around.
  9. >That's right.
  10. >Everything was perfectly fine until that... damned, vile primate came along.
  11. >She was free to do what she pleased with her sisters.
  12. >Yep, just drive- ride in the van with them down the avenue of stardom.
  13. >But no, Anon just had to get involved.
  14. >He just had to come along and... destroy all the work she did over the years.
  15. >Hardening not just her heart, but the hearts of her sisters to the plight of this broken world and its people.
  16. >"Getting involved with a mortal at all when you are immortal is a surefire way to destruction." she told them.
  17. >But she just had to go and change her mind, didn't she?
  18. >"We're mortal now. So... perhaps it wouldn't be so bad to indulge in that horrible yearning. Just once at least."
  19. >She's angry. So angry.
  20. >At him, the world, humanity and their DAMN weak frail bodies... herself... everything.
  21. >The wine going down her throat doesn't taste the way it did before. The way it tasted when she shared the bottle with him.
  22. >It tastes bitter. Bitter and old. Like her.
  23. >She drinks it all the same though. Anything to take away that terrible ache in her heart.
  24. >Days go on forever, but she still holds hope. Holds hope that he can fight it.
  25. >Fight it and win.
  26. >Not just for her, but for her sisters, who she stupidly introduced to him and got involved in this mess alongside her.
  27. >Please Anonymous, please...
  28. >Please win... please... try for me... for us... I'm begging you, come home to us alive.
  29. >We need you. I need you.
  30. >I never told you, did I Anonymous? I never told you what I wanted to tell you all along.
  31. >I love you.
  32. >The CD skips here and there, and she's not sure if it's because of the age of the device playing it, or just the CD showing its age from over the years she's had it.
  33. >Whatever. It doesn't matter what the reason is. Nothing really matters.
  34. >And that's what fucking really sucks.
  35. >Aria Blaze. That's her name. That's her fucking name.
  36. >Not titles or nicknames like 'the grumpy one', 'the purple one', 'the angry one.'
  37. >She was always the most forgettable of the group.
  38. >"But you didn't forget me, did you Anonymous? You knew my name before I even told you it. And when you said it..."
  39. >A liar.
  40. >That's what she is.
  41. >She keeps telling herself, 'I don't feel anything' and 'nothing matters'.
  42. >Well you know what? It does fucking matter. She's crying now. Wailing and screaming into the night.
  43. >Her sorrow goes unheard, blanketed by the cacophony of noise spat out by the stereo system.
  44. >Guess Adagio gave up on the 'turn it down' battle.
  45. >Or she's passed out from downing another bottle of wine.
  46. >She's worse than a liar.
  47. >She's weak.
  48. >So weak in fact, that she already is out of her own toxic escape.
  49. >Next to the bed, littering the floor - bottles of alcohol.
  50. >Not the prim and pussy shit that Adagio drinks. No.
  51. >We're talking rum, vodka, Captain Morgan...
  52. >How'd she get this way? When did she get this way?
  53. >All bleary and lost.
  54. >Everything was so easy before.
  55. >Adagio would tell her what to do, she would do it(while complaining the whole way, but she would do it. Know why? Because she is a team player, and don't forget it.)
  56. >Sonata would annoy her, and she would bite back with that same fire that roared within her all her life.
  57. >At least until now.
  58. >Now, her inner fire is but a weak flickering flame, like that of a match.
  59. >All because of him.
  60. >He - who came and smothered her flame and revealed the sad lonely soul behind it.
  61. >And now, like it didn't even matter - he's gone.
  62. >Well not gone. He's alive. Fighting.
  63. >Fighting of all things, a fucking virus.
  64. >...
  65. >Please come back.
  66. >Another sad day.
  67. >Turn that frown upside down Sonata.
  68. >She hugs the stuffed penguin close, shaking. Shaking like that time when they all got lost in the woods in the winter, after being chased out of town by the mean people.
  69. >This is kind of like that, she realizes.
  70. >Well, sort of like that.
  71. >She's not really cold.
  72. >But it feels like that time. The woods closing in around her, all those noises in the dark...
  73. >She was so scared.
  74. >Scared her sisters would...
  75. >Well, those wolves were close.
  76. >She hugs the penguin tighter.
  77. >This penguin... the one he won for her at the fair. That was the most fun she had had in...
  78. >Years? Centuries?
  79. >It was a good day.
  80. >Adagio was smiling, holding his hand.
  81. >She was smiling, holding the penguin.
  82. >Even Aria was smiling. Aria! The most grumpiest grump in the history of the grumps!
  83. >The memory makes her smile, and then hurts her.
  84. >Looking around her darkened bedroom, the blanket feels heavy. Heavier than the heaviest thing she can think of.
  85. >She sniffles.
  86. >There aren't any smiles on her sisters' faces now. Or hers.
  87. >There's no fun times to be had here.
  88. >Where are her sisters? Are they helping him feel better?
  89. >Their doors are locked, and even though she's pounded and pounded at their doors, they won't give.
  90. >She wants to be held. Wants to be told this is all just a bad dream, and that she can sleep in Adagio's bed with her to help keep the bad dreams away.
  91. >But she realized a long time ago.
  92. >This is no dream. No nightmare.
  93. >This is real.
  94. >Anonymous. She cries out to him, cries harder than she ever has cried before, but he won't come to her.
  95. >Because he's not there.
  96. >Sick. That's all anyone tells her when she asks about him.
  97. >"He's sick."
  98. >She doesn't understand. Sick? Does he need soup? Isn't that what you give humans who are sick? She doesn't know, she only just now started to get to really know one.
  99. >And she has a feeling that after this, she won't *want* to know another one
  100. ...
  101. >"You damn... you..."
  102. >You grin at the beautiful, angry woman before you.
  103. "Yeah yeah, I know... look, all that matters now is that we're together, right?"
  104. >Aria scowls, her fists clenched.
  105. >"You..."
  106. >Stomping towards you, her anger quickly crumbles, and her stomping turns into running as she throws herself into you sobbing.
  107. >"You're the worst!"
  108. >You hold her close, shushing her and whispering 'it's alrights' to her over and over again.
  109. >Sonata though still seems to not believe what she is seeing.
  110. >"So... it... it's all over? This is-"
  111. "Yeah."
  112. >You pat the shaking Aria on the back.
  113. "It's all good here."
  114. >Sonata blinks, looking around the rolling green hills and feeling the pleasant warmth of the sun carress her skin before...
  115. >"EEEE!"
  116. >She rushes over and throws her arms around you and Aria.
  117. >The group hug is almost complete. It's just missing one participant.
  118. "Adagio."
  119. >You look over at her.
  120. >She looks down at her hands, opening and closing them, and then pinches her cheek.
  121. >"... I'm... I..."
  122. "It's alright Adagio."
  123. >You give her a smile.
  124. "Everything is alright."
  125. >Your words make her flinch.
  126. >You always had a way of getting to her. Getting up and under all those walls. Looks like your time spent away from her hasn't dulled that ability, because pretty soon she's joined with the three of you.
  127. >And to your surprise, she's crying.
  128. >Crying in front of someone other than you, that is.
  129. >Guess this place just has a way with people.
  130. >Hours later, you're laying back in the softest patch of grass imaginable. It's like it's made of fucking velvet.
  131. >"So you were waiting for us here?"
  132. "Mhm."
  133. >"... So when we got it and eventually-"
  134. "You were, as you put it, 'in stasis', yes."
  135. >"... Why though? Why not just let us come one at a time?"
  136. "I can't answer that. That's just the way it goes with families here. They prefer to unite them like this."
  137. >"I'm not complaining."
  138. >You chuckle at Aria.
  139. >Sonata sighs happily.
  140. >"It feels so good here..."
  141. "Yep. Like Heaven."
