- >Panicking, you busted open the door of the classroom that the club had called home.
- >There had to be something you could do, you thought through tears.
- >Maybe there was a Fudeformer in the closet? You run over with the vain hope, throw open the door, and begin looking through the shelves.
- >A pen! You click it and throw it into place in the Author Driver, forgoing the usual spectacle of your henshin pose.
- >No dice. Ripping it out, you keep looking through the shelves. Nothing.
- >M-maybe in the teacher's desk? Monika sat there sometimes! You run over and throw open the drawers. More nothing.
- >Wait, Monika's Author Driver had a button on it that worked with her pen! Maybe your Driver has a secret button too?
- >You look down at the device strapped to your waist, and begin fiddling with it. Your hands tracing the sides, you find no such thing.
- >Slumping back against the wall, you sob and look at the room that you once called a club. You'd barely known these girls a few days prior, but they were good friends, and now all that was left of them was empty chairs at empty tables.
- >What once would be discussion of poetry or what constituted literature was now silence so dense you could hear a pin drop. You continued idly messing with the belt as you stood, helplessness overwhelming you.
- >God damn it, what good was this thing if you couldn't fucking use it?
- >In a fit of rage, you rip it from your waist and arc it back, ready to throw it across the room. It comes off of your waist easily, and you prepare to whip it at mach ten.
- >And then, you hear it. A clattering between you and the wall.
- >You pause, and turn your head towards the sound.
- >A pen.
- >A pen with a heart on top.
- "Oh my god." You drop to your knees at the sight, and hold it in the palm of your hands.
- >It's Monika's Fudeformer.
- >Given that Sayori created it, Dan must've not been able to delete it. In her final moments she slipped it into the waist of your belt, a parting gift from the president.
- >But what good was it? She already had it bound to her belt. You stand up, turning the pen over in your hand.
- >And then, it clicked. Your original transformation was flawed because Sayori didn't understand all the intricacies of the Author Driver, and Monika's belt was gone. Maybe the pen was unbound, or it would work in your Driver regardless.
- >You struck your pose. This was your last shot. Clicking the pen in, you yelled.
- "HENSHIN!"
- >Slamming it down into the belt, there was an explosion of green. But not the same green from your transformation; one that was far lighter.
- >"S A V E S L A S H L O A D !" The belt screamed in response.
- >In an instant, you were wearing that lime green armor, that glitchy blue skirt. A bow and pen in your hands, you were Writer Save/Load.
- >With this power, you knew what had to be done. You'd find some way to beat that scientist and avenge your friends.
- >Rushing toward the door, you stopped. To fight him alone would be suicide; this power was strong, but not enough against potentially unlimited monsters.
- >And then, your thoughts drifted to right before he deleted them. The team cheer, the group hug.
- >The beep.
- >You gaze down at your belt, then the bow in your hands.
- >Having shot four pen arrows into the floor of the classroom, you prayed to whatever higher power there was that this would work.
- >You envisioned the girls in your head.
- >The affable and goofy neighbor, Sayori; Writer Bottles.
- >The feisty pink haired weeb, Natsuki; Writer Express.
- >The sophisticated and shy lily-locked girl, Yuri; Writer Light.
- >And the dedicated and determined club president, Monika; Writer Save/Load.
- >Nervously, your hand drifted down toward your Driver, and your finger pressed down on the word 'Load.'
- >In a burst of multicolored smoke, the Dokis appeared simultaneously over the pens; three of them clad in armor, while Monika was not.
- >Shocked, you stumble backwards. Holy shit, it actually worked.
- >"Monika? Why are we in the classroom, I thought we were at the track?" Sayori asks in your direction.
- >"Uh, that's... not me." Monika pipes up, and Sayori looks between you and her.
- "Oh my god, yes! You guys! You're alive!" Hardly containing yourself, you jump for joy.
- >"Anon? What do you mean, did we...?" Yuri begins, trailing off into her own thought.
- >You explained the situation. How Monika's dad showed up on the scene, how he was evil and somehow using the Shashairi for his schemes, and how he had deleted them.
- >They had no memory of this; the last they recalled was the team hug, but with a quick scan of the news feeds on Monika's phone, your story was confirmed as various local news stations were reporting a short man in a lab coat rampaging through the city with an army of monsters.
- >You began to formulate a plan of attack, but without your own Fudeformer, one of you would have to sit out.
- >Figuring that Monika would know how to use her powers better than you, you take out the pen and go to hand it to her as Natsuki remarks that you did, in fact, look cute in the skirt.
- >But as you hand the pen to Monika, you think of something. Turning to your neighbor, you speak up.
- "Hey, Sayori. You made that pen for Monika, right?"
- >"Huh? Oh, yeah! Made me super tired for like, a day. Why?" She answers, a curious look on her face.
- "I need you to make another one. Do you think you could remake mine? I think if you made it, then it'll work with the belt you made and let me use it to it's fullest."
- >"I could, but I think that'll put me out and I won't be able to fight! But... I think your powers would help more, anyway, so okay!"
- >She begins to focus, and holds her hand out, before stopping.
- >"Oh, actually, the way it worked with Monika was that she had to read me a poem before I made it. Could you write something up real quick?"
- "Uhhh, sure." You sit at a desk, and take up pen and paper.
- >You think, and as words pop into your head for inspiration, you begin to furiously write as the girls crowd around you to witness your magnum opus.
- >Moonshine, pie, butterfly, bewitching.
- >Specter, train, jar, electrifying.
- >Class, otaku, sleep, chess.
- >Purple, pink, blue, green.
- >Light, express, bottle, save.
- >Finished, you stand up triumphantly, sheet in hand!
- >Reading it aloud to Sayori, a confused look crosses her face before she nods and begins to create. The other three look at you.
- >"That was just twenty words in a row, no sentences! Plus, you just took our writer names for four of em! How is that poetry?" Natsuki asks, exasperated.
- "Hey, I was under pressure, alright?" You say, shrugging.
- >"It was certainly... interesting." Yuri says, deep in thought. Monika sits there with a smug look.
- >"Just what I saw in you the first day, Anon." The president gives a small laugh, as Sayori grabs your attention.
- >"Here... you go, Anon." She lazily hands you a pen, then wobbles in place. "I'm just gonna... take a nap, okay? You guys be safe." You watch as she moseys over to a desk, sits in the seat, and immediately passes out onto the table, transforming back into her regular form.
- >Turning back to the group, you look at the pen in your hand. Looking up, you give another shrug.
- "Let's hope this works. Henshin!" Flicking it into the air, you catch it with your other hand and twirl it through your fingers before sliding it down into your belt.
- >"A C C L I M!" The belt announces as a flurry of lights surrounds you; two hues of green, sapphire blue, hot pink, and lavender purple.
- >"M A X ! ! !" The belt continues in a more excited voice.
- "Acclim Max?" You wondered aloud. Did Sayori forget the word?
- >You look down at your now gloved hands. The green of your armor was replaced with a goldish beige. The highlights of dark green were replaced with multicolored pastel ones; pink, blue, green, and purple. Your heart was animated in a breathing rainbow of colors, and bringing your hands to your face, you found there were no longer bulbous orbs for eyes; instead, your visor was solid black, rimmed with a few streaks of those same pastel colors and topped with a green 'V.'
- "I think this is how I'm supposed to be. Neat."
- >"Hey, Anon, you have a skirt now!" Natsuki says, laughing. You look down to inspect it.
- >Well, it's more like a long coat-tail since it splits in the front, but you suppose she was right.
- "Huh. Do I look cute, at least?" You ask, striking a feminine pose.
- >"Oh, yeah. For sure." All the girls laugh as Natsuki gives an OK-sign, and you join in.
- >"But your notebook is still blank. Are you sure it's working?" Monika asked. You looked down.
- >Sure enough, it was in fact blank.
- "Only one way to find out." You picked up the mug that you had tried to change on your first day as a Writer, and focused.
- >A golden, ballpoint pen appeared in your free hand, and it clicked.
- >As you looked at the mug, your free hand brought the pen to the journal, and wrote the word "Blue."
- >A moment later, the mug shifted in color from white to blue.
- >Everyone was excited at this small display of power, and after the initial celebration, you began to form a game plan.
- >Your first course of action was to edit your club members directly, changing their DNA to the same strand that yours was to give them immunity from Dan's snap.
- >You then borrowed their Fudeformers, and made slight changes to upgrade their powers.
- >You tried to give them invincibility, but for some reason your belt would not allow that change to go through. Maybe it wouldn't allow big changes like that, or maybe you just weren't trained enough yet. Oh well.
- >The last change you made was to Sayori's pen, and clicking it into her Author Driver, she transformed and awoke, reinvigorated.
- >Suited up and ready to go, you lead the team outside of the classroom and followed the news on Monika's phone in pursuit of Dan.
- >Once outside of the building, you asked Natsuki to get ready to move, and asked the others to get in line behind you.
- >Putting your hands firmly on the short Doki's shoulders, she rose shortly as the wheels in her heels popped out and lifted her. In turn, pink discs of energy generated on the sides of your own feet, and as the other Writers put their hands on shoulders, the same happened to them.
- >The Writer Express Writer Express assembled, the five of you jetted downtown toward the mayhem being caused by the scientist of short-stature.
- >Skidding to a stop on a downtown street flooded with clowns and civilians, you spotted what seemed to be a large concentration of Shashairi further down the street.
- >Quickly, you handed out orders.
- "Sayori! Yuri! Get these people to safety!"
- >"Alright!" Sayori squealed.
- >"Mhm." Yuri nodded. The two split off to protect and guide away civilians.
- "Monika! Start shooting down as many as you can! The clowns die really easily, you should be able to take em out!"
- >"You got it!" She said, before kneeling and taking aim into the crowd.
- "Natsuki! You're with me, and we're heading down there!" You pointed over her shoulder at the monsters down the street, before hopping up, wrapping your legs around her waist and grabbing hold of her smokestacks.
- >"On it!" Once more, you rocketed forward through the crowd, easily evaporating jesters as you went.
- >Getting closer to the birds, you communicated over your helmet to Natsuki.
- "Get ready to throw me when I say go!"
- >"What? In there alone? Are you stupid?"
- "Trust me! After you do that, go back and help the others get up here!"
- >"Fuck it, whatever!" You felt her arms creep up your back, ready to chuck you.
- >And once you yelled 'go,' chuck she did. You flipped over yourself in the air, turning and spinning before landing in a circle of those bird monsters.
- >Standing up, you found Dan on the other edge of the circle, staring at you with an unamused look on his face.
- >"So, you got another pen, and brought your friends back. Bravo. Really, nice job." He clapped, before a smug look consumed his visage. "You weren't even gone that long!" He lifted a hand up by his head. "You were back like-" He snapped. "That!"
- >You stood unfazed and armor intact as the smug look on the man's face shattered. He snapped more and more, but nothing happened. You began to walk toward him.
- "This story's over, Dan." Reaching him, you delivered a powerful kick straight to his chest, causing him to fly back into the wall of bird monsters. You continued to advance towards him.
- >"I'm not quite done yet. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve!" He stated, getting up and scrambling into the crowd.
- >In your moment of badassery, you kinda forgot that you were stuck in a sea of huge raven beasts who were now descending on you. Huh.
- >Well, only one way to start. You clocked the one nearest you square in the beak, and began to defend yourself.
- >Pushing through bozos, Writer Express dashed back towards her allies.
- >She sure hoped that idiot knew what he was doing; it'd be awfully embarrassing for him to have to be rescued because he made such a stupid move.
- >Whatever; she'd get down to the other Writers, help them with their tasks, and be back up here to help him.
- >Easy.
- >Or so she thought, as while coming through an intersection she was blindsided.
- >Tumbling down the side street, the pink Doki and her mysterious assailant rolled for a moment before stopping, the enemy on top.
- >Looking up, Natsuki saw what seemed to be a mirror image of herself.
- >Same general shape of the armor, same general features, but several shades darker.
- >An evil version of herself! She had to warn the others, more could be coming for them!
- >As she began to speak into her communicator, the clone delivered a punch to the downed Doki's helmet, interrupting her.
- >Getting a chance, she spoke into it once more, but there was no response. Busted.
- >Warnings over that wouldn't work, it seemed. She brought her knees inward, and kicked her doppelganger up and off of her.
- >She'll just have to go in person! She dashed past the clone, who gave chase down the crowded city street.
- >It looks like her clone is a bit speedier, and was slowly gaining on her. But then, she remembered the change that Anon had given her.
- >While he had made the small change of allowing others to hitch up to her like train cars, he had also given her something else.
- >Writer Express was already an unstoppable force when she got to going. But with this, she was also an immovable object.
- >Producing her hammer, she slammed it into the ground with such force so as to stop her instantly. The shadow of herself following close behind had no chance to stop as Natsuki bent her head down forward, then threw it back with a harsh headbutt against the enemy.
- >An explosion of pink letters erupted from the shadow Writer, and Natsuki turned to give the damage an inspection.
- >Satisfied that her assailant was done for, she turned back toward the street and continued her journey.
- >If there was a clone of herself after her, she bet there were clones of the others, too.
- >Sayori chucked empty bottle after empty bottle into the crowd of beasts, pushing them back while she dragged out civilians that had become trapped.
- >On the other side of the street, she assumed Yuri was doing the same.
- >Things were going well, and she was managing to help the pedestrians get to safety when suddenly she was struck by a bottle to the head.
- >Turning in the direction of the impact, she spotted herself, who proceeded to throw more empty bottles in response.
- >Dodging backwards, she formed more bottles and engaged in the equivalent of a glass snowball fight with her clone.
- >Eventually, a bottle that landed near her erupted in a explosion, and she was knocked aside.
- >It hadn't yet occured to her that she could basically make grenades. She scrambled to her feet, and noticed that her doppelganger was stumbling slightly.
- >She giggled to herself, remembering her new powerup, and summoned several of the explosive bottles without breaking a sweat.
- >Writer Bottles was uncorked, allowing for more complicated things to be made with minor losses to that sunlike energy she was brimming with.
- >A flurry of glass causing an inferno upon the shadow Sayo, she soon faded into a wind of sapphire characters.
- >Turning away from her defeated opponent, she pressed on into the crowd.
- >Yuri deftly moved from one enemy to the next, slicing a path through the wicked jesters for a family that had gotten trapped.
- >Her path suddenly came to a clearing illuminated by streetlights, and the family of four following her scurried into it.
- >On the opposite side of the clearing, a familiar purple set of armor.
- >It turned to her, and motioning with its daggers, challenged her.
- >Writer Light accepted, and began an overly exaggerated sword battle with the impersonator.
- >After several minutes of clanging and parries supplemented by going intangible in various body parts to dodge the blades, the purples were at a standstill.
- >That is, until Yuri came up with a plan.
- >She yelled to the people behind her to hold hands, and the specter used the lack of attention to push her toward them.
- >Losing ground, Yuri quickly retreated into the mother's body, and the clone was confused for a moment.
- >Oh well, if it had to kill a civilian, so be it. It lunged forward with it's knife, but was met with the wife becoming intangible.
- >As a matter of fact, the whole family was. They reacted in confusion as Yuri rose from the ground quickly below her doppelganger, and give a large slice as she did.
- >A purple spray of text, and the duelist was gone. Woozy from sharing her powers for the first time, and with so many people, she quickly helped the family once more into continuing the path.
- >A little bit further, and she'd be back where Monika was positioned.
- >Taking aim, Writer Save/Load shot through line after line of the Shashairi.
- >Then, return fire from a line. Struck by it, she fell backwards as her assailant pressed the attack.
- >Clicking a pen and pushing against the ground to get up, she turned to face the new challenger, only to find herself staring back at her.
- >The two readied their bows, and began firing at each other as they moved to avoid the others attack.
- >Her clone was faster and more precise with her bow, however, and soon enough Monika's position had been taken by the faker while she was knocked to the ground once more, further away.
- >She just laughed to herself, however. Standing to her feet, she tossed her bow to the side and took out a pen.
- >The clone, uncaring, took aim for the death blow.
- >Monika clicked the pen, and instantaneously the clone exploded into a fine emerald mist as Writer Save/Load's new checkpoint power worked wonderfully, teleporting the real Monika into the fake one.
- >As if on cue after this scuffle, the other three Writers aside from Anon showed up.
- >Natsuki explained the situation, and the four made quick work in defeating the rest of the clowns on the street in an effort to make it to you.
- >Covered in giant ravens from head to toe and pinned, it looked like this would be the end.
- >You overestimated yourself, and now you would be pecked to death just like all great literary heroes. Oh well, you had a good run.
- >Then, the mass atop of you lightened rapidly, as you heard combat.
- >The blackened vision you suffered from was cured with a ray of light, as the other members of the literature club ripped the birds off of you and helped you to your feet.
- >The Shashairis here defeated with ones further down the street not paying attention, there was a momentary reprieve.
- >"Where'd my dad go?" Monika asked.
- "I'm not sure, he walked into the crowd going further down that way saying that he had a few more tricks left." You responded, stretching after finally being freed from your feathery prison.
- >"'A few more tricks?' That must have been those clones." Yuri stated.
- "Clones?"
- >"Yeah, there were some weird shadow versions of us that had our old powers. It's a good thing you upgraded us, or else we wouldn't have stood a chance!" Natsuki responds, patting you on the back.
- >"Ooh, did you have to fight yourself, Anon? I bet he was tough, even if he didn't have your powers!"
- "No, I didn't. But if he could harness the original powers of your pens, then..."
- >The sound of an Author Driver echoed through the air.
- >"D A N G E R O U S !" The voice was familiar, similar to your own Driver's yet dark and sinister. The five of you sharply turned toward the source of the noise; on top of a nearby rooftop stood the mad scientist, coat thrown open to show the belt at his waist with a quill pen in the spine.
- >"You didn't think a few poems were all I had, did you? You all know nothing about literature!" He announced, cackling.
- >The glint of evil in his eye, he threw one final smug look before closing the journal on his Driver, revealing that the book was a much darker tone than yours. The pages slammed shut, a dark energy flowed through and over it, before it continued.
- >"C O M P E N D I U M !" With that, the man mutated into a strange form. Growing and growing, the now building sized behemoth was part man, part clown, part bird, all held together in wispy cloud tendrils.
- >"I've already used the other Writer's powers, but unfortunately since I couldn't delete you I couldn't make a clone of Acclimate. So I suppose I'll have to use yours myself!" He flipped the now massive book open to a page labeled 'Acclim.'
- >"A C C L I M !" The belt yelled once more. The monstrosity looked confused at this, and in a flash a golden pen was in his hand.
- >He began to write in the journal, but spoke up.
- >"Since you broke your Fudeformer with that bootleg Driver, it seems that I can't make many changes at all. But I've made the only one that matters." What you could only discern as a smug look crossed the strange visage the monster had as he moved his hand, showcasing the word 'invulnerable' as he began to pulse in multicolor tones. "With these powers, I will showcase my strength to the world and become the supreme ruler! I will shape the planet in my image, and all will bow before me! And it all starts with this city! You are powerless to stop me; goodbye, Writers." Two large raven wings spanned behind him, and he took off into the sky, dropping large pies and gusts of wind at various buildings and streets in the beginning of his rampage.
- >"We have to stop him!" Monika said, stepping forward.
- >"But how? He's invincible!" Sayori panicked.
- >"We've gotta do something!" Natsuki brandished her hammer.
- >"Hmm." Yuri pondered, looking at you. "Anon, since you can change the properties of things, you should be able to change his invulnerability, right?"
- "I think so?" You answer. You weren't sure how it would interact with a change someone else had made with the same power, but it did seem to be the best shot.
- >"How's Anon gonna get all the way up there? None of us can exactly fly, Yuri!" Natsuki responded, a slight hint of panic on her voice as well. You look into the sky at the flying former manlet, and note that the area he is hovering over was the park across town.
- "Actually, I think I've got an idea." You announce. You're not quite sure of it, but it's all you can think of. The one shot you've got.
- >At incredible speed, the team rocketed through town in an upside down L formation through Writer Express' shared power, with you on the outside holding onto the head of Natsuki's hammer and the Dokis forming the body.
- >The train was no normal train, however. Through the shared use of Writer Light's power, the ghostly engine sped through crowd of foe and friend alike toward the last stop. Almost reaching the park, Natsuki turned to you.
- >"You ready?!" She yelled.
- >You nodded in response. In reality you weren't sure this would work at all, but fuck it, may as well try, right?
- >She nodded too, and the train jetted through the park toward your launch zone. The small skate park inside the greater park, and the ramps that were there.
- >As the group pushed through the center of a half-pipe, Natsuki swung her hammer with fury, and you arced around the front of the train and into the ramp.
- >Holding yourself upright, the force of your momentum plus the swinging of the hammer launched you up into the air toward your enemy.
- >Your ghostly form maintaining, you aimed yourself the best you could toward your target, but you were losing speed; you would barely miss like this.
- >However, you foresaw this possibility, and had Writer Bottles give some of her explosive weaponry. Uncorking them proved to work as semi-functional thrusters, giving you the boost you needed toward your goal.
- >Maybe a bit more, in fact. You were rocketing toward the mass at high speeds, and you had to make sure to make him vulnerable on the first pass or this wouldn't work.
- >Coming up on him, you began to write 'invulnerable' in your journal and prepared to make the change.
- >Passing through your target harmlessly, you focused on returning to your corporeal form to touch him.
- >Just as you get out of reach, though, you come back into your physical form, losing the ghostly state you had. Judging by his non-reaction and the multicolor sheen that still covered him, you realized you failed in your task.
- >You tried to think; you were out of jets, so you couldn't go back to him like that. You would come back down due to gravity, but that wouldn't be enough to attack him, only to make him vulnerable.
- >Something in your brain clicks. You take out a pen from your belt.
- >A checkpoint pen, given to you by Writer Save/Load. You had planned on using it to return to the ground safely after landing the blow.
- >But it could give you that extra pass you needed to finish him.
- >Making a grim decision, you clear the saved ground checkpoint, and as you reach the apex height of your thrust, you click it and save your location, high above him.
- >Holding it in your hand, you fall back down towards the monstrosity and barely miss him with the kick. However, you do graze him with your hand, activating your change and lowering his defenses.
- >Just before striking the ground, you click the pen, and now back at the height of the fall with all the terminal velocity momentum, you aimed directly toward him.
- >Fuck it, you're about to die anyway. May as well yell out some cringey bullshit like some kind of hero.
- "WRITER ACCLIM! MAXIMUM KICK!" You screamed through the sky, your body releasing a comet of green energy as you flew directly towards Dan.
- >Colliding with the monster, it let out a sort of squawk/honk/death throe as it burst into a very dense cloud of letters, and you fell towards the Earth.
- >Well, your job was done. You closed your eyes, and hoped splattering wasn't too painful.
- >In the following weeks, Dan's body was recovered, and he was tried for almost everything in the book applicable; from terrorism, attempted murder, crimes against humanity, being far too short, and stuff like that.
- >Sentenced to life in prison, he refused to work on solving the problems he had caused, and thus the Shashairi that he had let loose continued to run rampant.
- >Luckily, there were four heroes to fight back against them. Wherever monsters threatened man, the Common Writers would show up.
- >In the park below where the fated battle took place, a small monument was built. A stone journal embedded on a pedestal, with the words 'Acclim, Bottles, Express, Light, Save/Load' etched into the page.
- >On this day, four girls with journals of their own gathered at the monument, and talked about the past.
- >And then, one man joined them. The five then sat down near the monument, and had a picnic while discussing the fabled Writers.
