  1. A light flickered in soft luminescence, slowly intensifying to a bright glow.
  2.
  3. " Hello? " The soft voice whispered through darkness, slipping through the cracks of the oppressive silence.
  4.
  5. The glow; that of a lantern it came to be, finally converged upon something. A cluster of trembling heads, nothing more than the crowns visible. The bodies, which were attached to the heads, writhed and squirmed in obvious discomfort.. Why though? The lantern light ensnared the group of figures, exposing them to plain view..
  6.
  7. They looked.. Like they were decaying? How was this possible?
  8.
  9. " Hello? " The voice echoed, a lengthened draw upon the end.. Seemingly more questionable than the previous call.
  10.
  11. They all halted their convulsing abruptly, elongating to a completely erect form. A single head rotated ever-so-slowly, attempting to find the origin of the voice. Upon soft light washing over the facial features of this figure; a horrifying sight soon entailed. The gruesome composition of this mans face was obscene. Seemingly picked over by vultures, the rotting flesh of the head, face, and neck was absolutely horrific.
  12.
  13. W-What were they?
  14.
  15. " Sir? " The subtle utter of the male exposed a slight terror in his voice, the trembling tongue all but gave it away.
  16.
  17. The hand of Joseph slowly reached out, his arm extending to full length. The aim was innocent, no ill intentions. His hand shook and shivered as if a structurally unsound. Nearer, and nearer his finger encroached upon the surface of one of the beings. With each inch drew, Joseph became more and more wary... His finger made contact... All hell broke loose, it was something like that of a war.
  18.
  19. The entities mouth opened, wider than any human could possibly have managed. Joseph barely had time to react before the gruesome array of mismatched whites clamped down upon his arm. A guttural cry of primal terror tore asunder the atmosphere, spooking the others which in-turn began to frenzy. They pounced upon Joseph like a wild cat pounces upon that mice that it so heavily yearned for, the one which it spent days trying to apprehend. The scenery was absolutely profound in it's abundance of gore. The things, unsure of what else Joseph should refer to them as, had begun to feast upon his corpse like an early bird buffet. Brilliant vermilion slung and cascaded in streaks and pools across the polished concrete. The audible crack and crunch of bones breaking was hard to bear, Joseph went insane in those short few minutes that were the rest of his life. He felt every bite, every tear, every chomp. He'd cried out for someone to help, but, there was nobody around to do just that. His life withered away as the creatures devoured his flesh and tossed entrails across the crowd, his body had transformed into a veritable smorgasbord of offering for them, and they took full advantage. Within the next few moments Joseph had become no more. With their hunger now satisfied the creatures turned and began to follow course bearing into the darkness, moving in decrepitude; their gait gave the impression of moving amidst slough. One by one they disappeared into the placid abyss, leaving behind the gruesome scene of their victim.
