  1. Jesse paled a little, eyes going to the edge of the platform. Ashe saw what he was thinking, but even if they could drag all four crates to the edge in time, there wasn’t enough room between the platform and the wall to push them over.
  2.
  3. Jesse realized that, too. “We gotta make this platform go faster—”
  4.
  5. “It only goes one speed, McCree!”
  6.
  7. They locked gazes, and Ashe saw fear in his eyes. The same fear, she suspected, that he saw in hers. Then, in unison, they turned to the shaft running alongside the cargo platform, the rungs set in the wall. “How fast do you think you can climb?”
  8.
  9. Jesse blinked. “Let’s find out.”
  10.
  11. She dropped the tablet and bolted for the edge of the platform, boosting herself onto the rail.
  12.
  13. “Wait!”
  14.
  15. She turned back to see Jesse pulling the rifles from the case.
  16.
  17. He tossed one to her. “Here!”
  18.
  19. Ashe caught it, then slung the Seraphim’s strap over her shoulder and jumped. For one heart-dropping moment, she was airborne, gravity’s claws grabbing at her. Then her hand caught one rung and her foot, another. She wasted no time starting to climb. A grunt below told her that Jesse was close behind. Quickly, they outpaced the platform, but the beeping was getting faster and faster, echoing off the concrete walls.
  20.
  21. “Ashe …” The tone of Jesse’s voice told her what words didn’t need to.
