  12. A flashlight shines across shipping containers. The light
  13. illuminates reflects off each one.
  14.  
  15. DONOVAN "MIKE/MIKEE" PAULSEN, (30) walks forward.
  16.  
  17. He's Caucasian, 6"1, black hair, brown eyes, skinny build.
  18. His medium, styled hair carries a gentlemen's cut, and his
  19. face carries a five o'clock shadow. A visible scar sits below
  20. his left eye.
  21.  
  22. The bags on Don's eyes show through the dim light.
  23.  
  24. Don has an AR slung around the front of him. He wears a pair
  25. of jeans and a tan plate carrier sits over a white button up
  26. shirt. On his shoulder sits a Sentinel Securities ID.
  27.  
  28. Don wears an earpiece.
  29.  
  30. The radio comes to life as MARCUS MATTHEWS, (34) keys his
  31. microphone.
  32.  
  33. Marcus is 6"4, with short auburn hair and brown eyes. He
  34. wears a plate carrier with a white button up and a clip on
  35. tie.

  37. MARCUS
  38. (earpiece)
  39. All teams, radio check.
  40.  
  41. MICHAEL CHAVEZ, (24) keys his radio. He's Hispanic, 5"9 with
  42. short black hair. He wears a black baseball cap and a tan
  43. plate carrier. He carries a VEPR AK patterned rifle.

  45. CHAVEZ
  46. Alpha one, check.
  47.  
  48. PAUL CARTER, (25) keys his microphone. He's a skinny
  49. Caucasian with short brown hair and blue eyes, 6"0. He wears
  50. a pair of square glasses and carries a CZ Bren, with a
  51. Beretta 92 on his hip.

  55.  
  56. Marcus sighs into the radio.
  57.  
  58. Don fumbles with his microphone.

  69. CONRAD MILLER, (28) keys his microphone. He's Caucasian, with
  70. a light tan, brown eyes, and 6"2 with a muscular build. His
  71. tired eyes show under the warehouse lights.

  76. Don yawns. He meets back up with Conrad.

  100. The two switch sides.

  102. The same setup sits in front of Don.

  122. Don takes out his ear piece and listens again.

  124. A louder and more noticeable thud.

  126. Don puts his earpiece back in.

  130. Paulsen, report, damn it.

  133. (into mic)
  134. Alpha three reporting, I got

  137. Don slings his rifle forward.

  139. DON (CONT’D)

  142. Don pushes forward and flicks the safety off his rifle.

  147. Louder bangs- Something metallic.
  148.  
  149. His chest heaves as he moves forward. Don slows down and
  150. begins to control his breaths.

  152. More bangs come from next to him.

  154. DON (CONT’D)
  155. Who the fuck is in the container?
  156.  
  157. He looks to both sides of him.
  158.  
  159. Nothing.
  160.  
  161. Don puts his earpiece back in.
  162.  
  163. DON (CONT’D)
  164. (into earpiece)
  165. Be advised, found the source of the
  166. sound.

  168. MARCUS
  169. Copy that, don't open that till we-

  172. Fuck that.

  174. Don takes out a pair of bolt cutters and cuts the locks off
  175. the shipping container. He keeps his hand on his rifle, turns
  176. on its light, and keeps it trained at the door.

  178. Don swings the door open.
  179.

  181. INT. SHIPPING CONTAINER - NIGHT
  182.  
  183. His once tired eyes change to those of shock.
  184.  
  185. DON
  186. Oh, fuck.
  187.  
  188. Children lay on cots inside the container. One bucket sits on
  189. each end of the container. Don covers his mouth and tries to
  190. mask the stench of the container.
  191.  
  192. At the very front, a child stands there. Don places his light
  193. on him. His blue eyes shine in the darkness, his bowl cut
  194. blonde hair shining off the light.
  195.  
  196. IND CHILD 1
  197. Mama? Это ты?
  198.  
  199. DON
  200. What?!
  201.  
  202. Don looks past him and shines his light on the others.
  203.  
  204. DON (CONT’D)
  205. English?
  206.  
  207. The child's eyes give Don a blank stare.
  208.  
  209. IND CHILD 1

  213. I don't...
  214.  
  215. Marcus walks into the container.
  216.  
  217. MARCUS
  218. Hey, buddy...
  219.  
  220. Don lowers his weapon. The child starts to rub his eyes.

  223. Hey man, we gotta go to the feds
  224. about this-
  225.  
  226. Behind Don, Chavez and Carter appear behind him.
  227.  
  228. Marcus gets closer and holds something sharp in his hand.
  229.  
  230. DON (CONT’D)
  231. Hey what the hell are you-
  232.  
  233. Marcus stabs the child in the shoulder with the syringe and
  234. takes it out.
  235.  
  236. DON (CONT’D)
  237. Motherfucker!
  238.  
  239. Don raises his handgun only for Carter and Chavez to put him
  240. in a head lock. Marcus pulls the gun out of his hand.
  241.  
  242. The child falls in front of him. Don struggles to get out of
  243. their grasp as one kicks the back of his leg and brings him
  244. to his knees. He falls forward and lets out a cry of pain as
  245. he falls forward.
  246.  
  247. Marcus picks the child up and sets him down in an empty cot.
  248.  
  249. Marcus walks over to Don.
  250.  
  251. His demeanor is calm, casual.
  252.  
  253. MARCUS
  254. Donovan Paulsen.
  255. (smiles)
  256. You live with your daughter,
  257. formerly Ashley Wren Jackson, now
  258. Ashley Paulsen at 4333 West Bell
  259. Road, apartment 2043 in Phoenix.

  261. Don looks up at him with anger.
  262.

  264. These are god damn kids!

  269. Don tries to struggle only to get held back as he looks up at
  270. Marcus.

  277. Don's eyes widen as he looks behind Marcus at the children on
  278. cots.

  281. They're in fucking shipping
  282. containers...

  284. MARCUS
  285. You are standing in front of a
  286. moving train, Don. I'm just
  287. protecting our bottom line. Now.
  288. You get in our way.
  289.  
  290. He reaches into a holster and pulls out a suppressed Ruger
  291. Mark 2 and chuckles.
  292.  
  293. MARCUS (CONT’D)
  294. And I'm going to kill your daughter
  295. and make you watch.
  296.  
  297. He reaches into Don's vest pocket and takes out a picture of
  298. Ash.
  299.  
  300. MARCUS (CONT’D)
  301. I've known you awhile buddy. I know
  302. that you'll be fine, long as your
  303. Ashley stays safe, you're happy. I
  304. shoot you, well she gets everything
  305. doesn't she? Ash is a great kid by
  306. the way, always raises her hand to
  307. ask questions and gets along with
  308. all the guys in her class. A bit
  309. different to what you were back in
  310. the day huh?

  312. Don just looks down at the metal container's floor.

  314. MARCUS (CONT’D)
  315. Besides, capping four of your guys
  316. isn't a very heroic thin-
  317.  
  318. Don's eyes widen.
  319.  
  320. His fists clench up and he lunges forward.

  322. DON

  325. Marcus laughs.

  327. Carter and Chavez pull him back.

  330. Can you believe this fucking guy? A
  331. "hero". If he was such a hero his
  332. wife wouldn't have run off on him-

  338. Don lunges forward but gets pulled back by the two that hold
  339. his arms.

  341. MARCUS
  342. You're so cute when you get pissy
  343. like that. Now, what's it gonna be?

  345. Don goes silent as the anger on his face subsides. He goes
  346. calm, only for a moment.
  347.  
  348. His face changes to that of disgust.
  349.  
  350. DON
  351. I won't talk.
  352.  
  353. Marcus reaches into another vest pocket. He takes Don's
  354. wallet.
  355.  
  356. Marcus takes out Don's license snaps a photo of it. He puts
  357. it all back and throws his wallet down.
  358.  
  359. MARCUS
  360. Pick your shit up and get back to
  361. it then.
  362.  
  363. The two let him go.
  364.  
  365. DON
  366. Yeah... Sure.
  367.  
  368. The three walk out.
  369.  
  370. Don still looks at the container, shock in his eyes.

  372. The kids in cots line the shipping container as Don stands
  373. back up and walks out.

  375. The light shines on half his face. The other part of it stays
  376. dark. He backs away and doesn't take his eyes off the kids
  377. inside.
  378.  
  379. The light inside the crate disappears as Don closes it.

  381. CUT TO:

  384. INT. CORPORATE OFFICE - DAY
  385.  
  386. Don walks past a wall that reads, SENTINEL SECURITIES.

  388. DON
  389. I can't believe they actually took
  390. me.
  391.  
  392. Don walks through a corridor. He wears a suit, the jacket
  393. open.
  394.  
  395. DAWN "MICHELLE" PAULSEN, (34) walks beside him. She's tan
  396. 5"9, with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes.
  397.  
  398. MICHELLE
  399. Well, a lot of things tend to when
  400. you're the "Hero of Houston". Big
  401. damn hero you are.
  402.  
  403. Don shrugs.
  404.  
  405. DON
  406. If it's just that, then I don't
  407. really deserve it now, do I?

  409. Michelle rolls her eyes then stops.

  417. Michelle pulls out a security card and opens a door for him.

  420. First door to the right. Make sure

  423. Don raises his arms as anger registers on his face.

  428. She motions for him to enter. Don walks inside. The door
  429. closes behind him.

  431. He takes a deep breath.

  437. Don walks forward and enters
  438.

  440. MEETING ROOM - DAY
  441.  
  442. Matthews gives Don a warm smile.

  444. MARCUS
  445. Just wanted to congratulate you,
  446. Mr. Paulsen. You're going to great
  447. on our team.
  448.  
  449. Don shakes his hand with a nervous grin.
  450.  
  451. DON
  452. So, what am I going to be doing
  453. exactly? I wasn't really clued in
  454. on that.

  456. MARCUS
  457. Just security on high value cargo
  458. from the Ukraine.
  459.  
  460. Don nods.
  461.  
  462. DON
  463. Anything I'll need?
  464.  
  465. MARCUS
  466. Just everything you used during the
  467. course, no real preference. It's
  468. all you.

  470. Marcus gives a warm smile to him.

  472. DON
  473. Sounds good then.

  475. Marcus puts his hand out and offers a handshake.

  477. The two shake hands.

  480. How's tomorrow night sound for your
  481. first day?

  484. I don't see an issue.

  486. Marcus grins.

  491. Don walks out and takes the elevator down.

  496. INT. FORD MUSTANG - DAY

  498. Don gets into his car and takes out his phone.
  499.  
  500. He thumbs through his contacts and calls "Ashley". The
  501. contact has a picture of a wrench on it.
  502.  
  503. Below it reads, "My personal mechanic" and "daughter".
  504.  
  505. Don waits a few moments.
  506.  
  507. ASHLEY "ASH" PAULSEN, (18) picks up the call.
  508.  
  509. ASH (O.S.)
  510. Yeah, what's up?
  511.  
  512. DON
  513. Hey, just got off work, you need
  514. anything?
  515.  
  516. ASH (O.S.)
  517. Snap-Ons would be nice.

  531. Don gets on the freeway. The hair on his arms stick up. His
  532. vision starts to close in as he continues to drive.

  534. JACQUELINE "JACKIE" MILLER, (28) sits next to him. She's 6"0,
  535. average build, and has a decent sized rack. She wears a tan
  536. jacket with a pair of jeans. On the left side of her belt she
  537. wears a Hartford Police badge, on her right wears her police
  538. issue Glock 17.

  540. JACKIE
  541. You know it wasn't going to work
  542. out Don.
  543.  
  544. Don looks forward and drives through traffic.

  547. Did you have the right? You didn't
  548. even come to me about it.

  559. He turns to his side. Tears well in his eyes.

  561. The empty seat sits next to him. He shakes his head.

  565. I'm having that conversation again.

  573. The Mustang pulls up to the apartment. Don steps out and
  574. closes the door behind him. He locks the car.

  579. Don walks in and closes the door behind him.

  581. Ash sits on the couch and plays on a PS4. She's a 5"8 blue
  582. eyed brunette and wears a pair of jeans with a green "82nd
  583. Airborne" T-shirt.
  584.  
  585. Ash's brunette hair is in a ponytail and she wears a red
  586. baseball cap over it.
  587.  
  588. Don motions to the dishes.
  589.  
  590. DON
  591. You plan on getting these done any
  592. time soon?
  593.  
  594. ASH
  595. Yeah, yeah, sure dad.

  597. Don sits on the couch next to her.

  600. You doing okay? What you got there?

  602. Ash shrugs.

  605. As good as I can be. Uncharted. One
  606. of the guys in my class won't stop
  607. talking about it, some shit about
  608. the story. Enjoying it so far.

  614. Ash pauses the game and cocks an eyebrow at him.

  641. A newer model TV sits there plugged into a PS2, a PS4, and a
  642. PS3.

  644. A gaming PC rig sits next to all of those. A walk in closet
  645. sits in front of him. To his right is a bathroom. He goes
  646. into the restroom and comes out to get ready. He's freshly
  647. shaved, his hair in neat order.

  649. He puts on his clothes and puts on his white dress shirt with
  650. a plate carrier, then puts on a pair of jeans.
  651.  
  652. He reaches for a pair of tan combat boots and puts them on.
  653.  
  654. Don goes into the walk in closet, taking an AR out of it then
  655. puts his Sig in its holster and walks out of the room.

  658. MAIN APARTMENT

  660. Don walks over to Ash. She takes the time to look over.

  663. Gonna go shoot someone?

  665. Don shrugs.

  668. I don't know. What I am gonna do is
  669. head out, and when I come back I
  670. want you to make sure those damn
  671. dishes are done.

  673. She sighs and rolls her eyes.

  678. Don steps out of the house.

  685. The door to the conex box closes behind him.

  687. Don stands there.

  693. Matthews shoots a look to Don and motions to Conrad.

  696. Keep an eye on Mr. Paulsen.

  698. Don looks back at Conrad and gives him a scowl.

  700. Conrad nods at Matthews.

  709. Don still carries a look of confusion and fear in his eyes.

  728. The rain pours down. Don steps out, walks to his car, and
  729. starts undoing his plate carrier.

  733. Don walks over to his car.

  738. Don opens the trunk to his mustang and puts his plate carrier
  739. in it.

  741. Conrad reaches his hand out.

  743. CONRAD (CONT’D)
  744. Doc, you son of a bitch, come on.

  746. Don slams the trunk of his Mustang closed.

  777. Don gets into his car and unlocks the door.

  779. Conrad gets in next to him.

  789. Conrad looks down.

  859. Don comes into his apartment and turns the light on.

  863. There's still dirty dishes in it.

  868. Don goes into her room. Ash sleeps and wears shorts and a t-
  869. shirt.

  882. He goes into the kitchen and starts washing dishes.
