  1. <@Aridia> 2The base of the arena is done in stone, with a playing field in dirt below. There's an outer ring within the walls where various concession stands and lavatories may be found, then within are rows of wood-covered stone benches in a bleacher arrangement. Above this, the arena's upper walls are smoothly planed wood, painted a pale color to match the stones of the lower theatre. Stairs lead up to a second arrangement of6...
  2. <@Aridia> 6...2 seats, somewhat above the first, although there are less of them.
  3. <@Aridia> 2Overhead, the arena's ceiling has been done away with, and instead there are long masts, from which sailcloth can be stretched to offer shade, protection from the rain, and so forth. There are four boxes, raised on the four cardinal directions, three of which provide private seating for certain viewers, one of which is for the announcers. Magical amplifiers project the voices of the announcers throughout the arena,6...
  4. <@Aridia> 6...2 while occasionally little white spheres zip down, projecting what they see in odd imagery on the blank white exterior above the four private boxes.
  5. <@Aridia> 2Down on the playing field, which is set below ground level, two gates offer entry from an underground layer, and a ring of glyphs around the exterior of the playing field can be set to mute magic or boost magic, or provide other effects depending on the event. They are set up to prevent use of magic by the combatants.
  6. * @Aridia walks out onto the sand floor of the arena's fight area and looks to the crowd. she wears a black gown that covers her from throat to foot and is form iftting on top and sworls out from her hips to the sand. her feet cannot be seen but she wears soft soled black boots and has her long black hair pulled back into a braid down between her black feathered wings. her gold gaze surveys the crowd for a moment6...
  7. <@Aridia> 6...6 before she nods to the gate keepers who call the fighters out from their holding areas to come out to the arena. she waits paitently for them to make their appearances
  8. <water> Dressed today in a green shirt and soft leather trousers, the half-elf has her hair cut back shorter than it had been last time she'd been seen in public. A series of tattoos in the shape of spirals are done in blue ink on either side of her head, contrasting with mud-brown eyes and the unpleasant look on her face. Sallow yellow skin is hidden on her hands, which are both wrapped with
  9. <water> cloth designed to protect her knuckles when punching. Soft-soled boots make her approach silent, as does the practiced gait. Looking not thrilled to be here, she stands where directed and cracks her neck, eyes flitting about in the obsessive way they always do in new environments.
  10. <GirlElf> 2<6Ilivafae'iira Vyz'crul2> in the commentator's booth "And here we have the aptly named Sul, it must be short for sullen. Have you ever seen a fighter looking less happy to be in the arena than this one. Possibly even here sullenly."
  11. <Riddy> <2Kartan Nakai> 6Drache is the next stop on his world-tour, fighting in pits and arenas from Alesia to Zul Kiras, the "civilized" moniker of Kartan Nakai, much easier to pronounce than the many consonants and syllables of his true name and yet just exotic enough to underscore the reptile himself. Whereas most would be used to green crested lizardmen or their crocodilian Murkdusk cousins, Nakai is clearly from the jungle - the bright shades of purple on his hide are nearly reminiscent of a chameleon or gecko, or perhaps a creative frog, belying the iron-tough musculature of his form. But up close, now, that's another story - his sheer size is intimidating, species aside, but more than that there are his practiced, trained movements - he clearly is no lumbering brute. He wears gloves, suggesting either claws or pads on his fingers. Whereas moments ago he was talking to his fight manger, and then suiting up for the match, now he is in the ring. And if there is one thing Kartan knows to do, it's play to the crowd. People have't come to watch a soft-spoken shrewd businessman, they're here to see a monster! He enters the ring, giving a growling hiss to the crowd, letting his overlong barbed tongue show before he speaks to the crowd in a loud, rough voice. "No one ever told ME that the citizens of Drache were so weak!"6 and a dismissive gesture to Sul. "You're gonna get crushed, little girl."6 Both Aridia and Koehlas would know what he's doing, though - if he wins, he wins. If he loses, then Sul is going to get a major push and a bit of a narrative as a monster-fighting hero. Win-win either way, playing to the crowd's reaction. He turns to face her, cracking his knuckles.
  12. <GirlElf> 2<6Ilivafae'iira Vyz'crul2> with a laugh "And here we have a professional, a true showman from the sound of him. We'll have to see his performance lives up to his bluster. And, if it does, should expect to get several offers after this fight, given the taste Drache has for the exotic."
  13. * @Aridia raises her hands then and nods to both fighters. she surveys the crowd for a moment to let the anticipation rise some before she quickly drops her arms and clears the arean as the anto margic field comes up 14"begin!"
  14. <@Aridia> 2roll intiative please
  15. <water> She lifts a single middle finger in the commentor booth's direction at the announcement. Truth be told, she'd forgotten she'd signed up to fight until she'd been approached by the messenger. Being blazed drunk when signing contracts generally isn't a good idea. Still, the prospect of getting paid to beat someone to a pulp pleases her, and thus the half-elf had shown up. "Keep talking,
  16. <water> lizard-man. It'll make it easier for me to break your oversized jaw." She drops the offensive hand signal and then spits to the side, watching him with admittedly keen interest. Compared to this lumbering beast, she's petite. Still, the woman is built tough: wiry muscle and smooth movements show years of practice as she shifts her weight, eyes narrowed. This is no one's hero: this is
  17. <water> Elsal Koehlas. "I'm not here to talk. I'm here to kick your ass."

  23. <Riddy> <2Kartan Nakai> 6 What she did was a very good move - setting herself up as the Antihero for the crowd. Win this match, and she'll get to ride off that for a while! Lost, and peopel will be interested in her comeback. As for him, he quips back pretty well, "You're welcome to try, kid!"6 And the moment the match begins, he moves - deceptively quick, aiming to lunge at her and test her reactions. If he grabs her, he'll seek to slam her to the ground on herback, possibly moving to pin her with his arm. If not, then everything will depend on her counterattack.

The unpleasantness was apparently a glamour. Given her interested watching of the beast, she spots the tightening of his muscles before he ever moves and is ready for it. Her feet move smoothly to carry her out

A bit of a hiss from the lizardman, though as she has her hands on his shoulder, he'll seek to quickly backhand her while she's following through from her knee strike, aimed for her chin. He appreciates her speed and skill, certainly, but he'd also like to put her down, and again moves to try to capitalize on her own attack. The lizardman lifts his arms in the air in an expression that looks like victory - but the moment Koehlas begins to move, it becomes obvious that he wasn't really lapsing in concentration, not at all. When she kicks, he moves justback enough to avoid it, and intends to grab her and use her own momentum to slam her back over his knee. Though again, if it lands, it'll beenough to hurt, but not enough to, say, cripple her.

Fighting's not something she's new to by far. When her eyes open again, they're full of spite. She's close enough still and moves quickly enough that she can bring both arms together and drive the locked hands

But he's showing some skill now - and as Elsal tries for a tried-and-true Cpt. Kirk Hammerpunch(tm), he takes it much better than the proverbial Gorn, by moving one thick forearm up to block it, wrist against wrist to ruin her attempt at a blow. While she's caught like this, he'll attempt to knee her hard in the gut, and potentially set her up for another grapple if he can.

  193. <Riddy> <2Kartan Nakai> 6 It really is close - exceedingly close, and that's on genuine terms. He manages to avoid her uppercut, and whips his tongue back in his mouth - though it lightly hits her wrist, and gives an audible-only-to-her14 "sorry"6 before attempting once more to end the fight as fast as he can. Elsal has proven to be quite the fighter, so he'll attempt to just throw all of his weight into a pin, his forearm over her throat.

  200. <Koehlas`> "Don't you apologize to me, you piece of shit." She breathes in his direction, having somehow managed to keep her head above his arm. This close in, and how she's angled, there's really only one option for counterattack. There's no apology as she rocks her head forward into his face, forehead aimed squarely at his nose.

  206. <Koehlas`> ughhhh )
  207. <Riddy> <2Kartan Nakai> 6 Hey, he doesn't lick people without their permission! Again, there isn't much room to move, not if he wants to hold the pin, though he can tilt his head, turning her headbutt into a gentle hug...sorta. Well, a headbang whiff, more like it. As she does, he'll try to wrap his arms around her and restrain hers behind her back, using the combination of his strength, weight, and leverage to hold her in a pin and keep her from moving. One gets the impression that a lot of his fights have been decided by grapple or pinfall.

  213. <@Aridia> 2the anti magic field drops then and healers rush out to the combatants to heal them
  214. <Infern> Kashka hisses disappointedly. Well she was down a few coins for that bet
  215. <Koehlas`> He catches her and holds her. She screams irritation into his ear, both out of pain and out of legitimate frustration at having been pinned to the dirt by a man that (in her opinion) used his only advantage against her.
  216. <GirlElf> 10<14Storyteller10>10 "And we have a winner. He's certainly quieter about it than the loser. That's just bad sport there to scream into his ear without at least making a few nicer overtures first...."
  217. <GirlElf> 2<6Ilivafae'iira Vyz'crul2> "And we have a winner. He's certainly quieter about it than the loser. That's just bad sport there to scream into his ear without at least making a few nicer overtures first...."
  218. <GirlElf> --oops sorry
  219. * @Aridia follows the healers out onto the sand floor and holds aloft a gold bag with a gold ribbon tied around it. she meanders over to kartan and takes his hand in hers and raises it as she announces 14"Kartan wins and his next fight will be against Ailara the cat person!"
  220. <Riddy> <2Kartan Nakai> 6 and it's over. The winer is declare, healers are coming out. And he coments, quietly, "hey kid, you're good. Really had me going there."6 genial in person, apparently. He'll get off her, freeing her - and one gets the impression that he'd offer her a hand up if he weren't playing The Heel in the arena. Once on his feet, he gives a rather loud roar of victory, and aises his hand with Aridia! That eye, though. it's a good thing they have professional healers here.
  221. <@Aridia> "also Sul will combat cody next. so we will have -two- fights coming up for you all"6 she then relases kartan's hand as she hands him the gold bag
  222. <Koehlas`> The lizard stands and takes his weight from her, allowing the healers fix her rib quickly enough and mend the bruises on her skin. The bruise to her ego will take some time, though. She remains seated, legs sprawled out, as the lizard takes his gold and cheers victory. Her hands support her in the sand until such time as she feels well enough to stand. Unexpectedly at the end, she offers
  223. <Koehlas`> him her hand. A shake for a good fight, perhaps?
  224. <Riddy> <2Kartan Nakai> 6 the cheers (and boos) of the crowd are music to his ears. The trick is not to be someone they hate - it's to be someone they love to hate. And he'll take her hand in a shake - but he'll make a show of tensing his muscles, holding her in what appears to be an iron grip. Can't look too soft.
  225. * @Aridia then looks at the pair and smiles 14"good fight"6 she then turns to head off the sands
  226. <Koehlas`> As for Elsal, she has no idea how to work a crowd, or really even how to work individual people. She utterly ignores them at first. Her own strong grip isn't a show. She doesn't try to hurt him, though- simply forcibly taking hold of him, giving a perfunctory shake and then pulling him close to whisper something in his ear. When she's done, she turns to the crowd, making one more rude
  227. <Koehlas`> gesture in the direction of the announcement box then heading towards the exit. Whenever the anti-magic fields deactivate, her face shifts and changes back to its unpleasant state, lip upturned in its characteristic sneer.

  229. <Riddy> <2Kartan Nakai> 6 whatever she said to him was enough to make his eyes widen just a tiny bit - though after giving her a brief nod, the lizardman turns back to the crowd, giving another bit of showboating - just enought o keep the crowd going, notso much that it's overdone. One gets the sense that he's done this before. Elsal's skill in the fight has likely given her some good buzz for her next match, just as he himself has begun to build a reputation as a terrifying, ustoppable monster. WHen you do it right, these fights are win-win for everyone involved. A rematch would likely gain some publicity later down the road.
