  1. Short version
  2.
  3. A: Maria, Fidel, ~~Faize~~
  4. B: Nel, Cliff, Victor, Myuria, Daril
  5. C: Ronyx, Miki, Anne
  6. D: Lymle, Emmerson
  7.
  8.
  9.
  10. Long version
  11.
  12. -- A: Priority reroll targets, plus Faize
  13.
  14. Maria (Sharpshooter; Ace; SO3)
  15. + High passive party buffing (Damage+40%)
  16. + Good party rush buffing with Critical+40%
  17. + High hitcount
  18. + High rush gain
  19. + Very safe due to her range and speed
  20. + The most futureproof launch character
  21.
  22. Fidel (Attacker; Ace; SO5)
  23. + High passive party buffing (ATK+40%)
  24. + Due to how the damage formula works, ATK/INT buffs are more potent than Damage buffs. That ATK+40% is seriously good.
  25. + Low AP costs, especially postrush
  26. + Half his skillset works at range
  27. + Many of the ATK buffers released after him either have smaller buffs or role restriction, giving him a decent lifespan
  28.
  29. Faize (Invoker; Non-Ace; SO4)
  30. + Great party buffing for both damage and utility (Single Target Damage+30%; Stun rate+15%)
  31. + Fast spellcasting
  32. + Powerful event weapon available early (one copy free at launch!)
  33. + Can inflict a weak-but-still-meaningful DoT with spells
  34. + Good crowd control
  35. + High rush gain
  36. + Technically futureproof, though you won't be using him outside of dark-weak fights later on
  37. - No point in rerolling for a character you already get for free!
  38. - Limited to dark damage, with no meaningful dark-weak bosses until Alma
  39. - Disruptive to melee characters, due to his spells either launching or pushing enemies
  40. - Being a caster with a melee weapon, he can be cumbersome to use
  41.
  42. -- B: Workable, but will either be replaced early on and/or take a lot of work to start with
  43.
  44. Nel (Sharpshooter; Ace; SO5)
  45. + Poison is incredibly powerful
  46. + Passive -15% AP costs to the party
  47. - Poison isn't reliable, and can go an entire boss fight without proccing
  48. - Very low damage output and party contribution in general without poison
  49. - Due to the nature of her toolkit, she isn't good for content like tower
  50. - SOA EN is starting with much stronger weaponry than JP did, making poison a weaker option by comparison
  51.
  52. Cliff (Attacker; Ace; SO3)
  53. + High rush damage
  54. + High hitcount
  55. + Knuckles are the first weapon type to get drain access, providing good sustain without a healer
  56. + Fun
  57. - Zero party buffing
  58. - Purely melee; may be difficult for new players
  59. - Needs to be LB10'd and geared to properly do damage, the one thing he contributes to the party, making him a difficult starting pick
  60. - Phia releases early on and mostly does the same job better as a ranged non-ace
  61.
  62. Victor (Defender; Non-Ace; SO5)
  63. + Provides super armor
  64. + Massive damage reduction postrush allows for plenty of room for error
  65. - Non-ace
  66. - Pathetically low damage output
  67. - Will be replaced by Clair within weeks
  68.
  69. Myuria (Invoker; Ace; SO4)
  70. + Highest DPS among the launch cast post-rush
  71. + Decent damage and excellent crowd control via Plasma Cyclone
  72. + Stuns bosses easily
  73. - Zero party buffing
  74. - Needs to be LB10'd and geared to properly do damage, the one thing she contributes to the party, making her a difficult starting pick
  75. - Low rush gain
  76. - 3/4 of her spells take a long time to hit a small area, making them unreliable for damage and rush gain
  77. - Thunder+40% staves likely won't be available for a long time; Faize will be better geared than her for most things as a result
  78. - Can only use Plasma Cyclone once per combo without AP cost reduction from Daril's rush
  79.
  80. Daril (Attacker; Non-Ace; SO5)
  81. + Good combo DPS
  82. + Though easily replaced later on, his passive AP-20% and postrush AP-40% to the party are the best slot 4 buffing available to the launch-optimal Fidel/Maria/Faize/- comp
  83. - Non-ace
  84. - Purely melee; may be difficult for new players
  85. - Poor rush damage
  86. - Won't have any opportunities to capitalize on his +60% damage vs humans early on
  87.
  88. -- C: You can make use of them if you roll them, but they shouldn't be your only starter
  89.
  90. Ronyx (Invoker; Non-Ace; SO1)
  91. + Provides the party INT+40%, which is still to date the highest INT party buff available in JP, and allows him to support Faize and Myuria well as a result
  92. - Non-ace
  93. - Horrid weapon for casting
  94. - Horrid spell list for all of damage, rush gain, accuracy, and AP efficiency
  95. - Really just a horrid character in general, buffing other Invokers is all he has going for him
  96.
  97. Miki (Healer; Non-Ace; SO5)
  98. + Can heal
  99. - Non-ace
  100. - Is the only 5* healer in the entire game with no party buffing, and falls off the radar entirely once other healers are available
  101. - Will be replaced by Millie within weeks
  102.
  103. Anne (Attacker; Non-Ace; SO5)
  104. + Passively buffs party crit rate by +30%, which doubles to +60% postrush, though these don't stack with Maria's crit buffs
  105. + Great crowd control with X-Claw, namely making her useful for story and tower
  106. - Non-ace
  107. - Horrid damage output
  108. - Maria's rush crits are sufficient, and numerous other better characters later on will also buff crits anyway
  109. - Free Faize and 4* Tynave can already handle the crowd control niche Anne would provide
  110.
  111. -- D: Try again.
  112.
  113. Lymle (Invoker; Non-Ace; SO4)
  114. + Tornado does respectable damage against large enemies
  115. + Her rush buff gives her substantial buffs to her own INT and cuts her cast times
  116. - Non-ace
  117. - Weak spells with slow casts and high AP costs
  118. - Burst Flame is slow and inaccurate, making her more of a wind caster
  119. - Likely poor weaponry options starting out
  120. - There won't be any boss fights she's particularly useful in until Armaros (months in), and other Invokers/X-Claw users will be much better at crowd control
  121.
  122. Emmerson (Sharpshooter; Non-Ace; SO5)
  123. + Extends the hitcount timer, which can help keep the party's rush gain up against evasive enemies
  124. - Non-ace
  125. - Pathetic damage output
  126. - Pathetic rush gain, unless he's able to spam Hunter's Moon against an immobile enemy
  127. - No offensive buffing
