  1. Hi Andrew,
  2. I am a Yammer intern in Discovery team who is interested in learning about the different kinds of teams within Microsoft.
  3. Currently, I’m looking for a full-time position as a software engineer that will allow me to pursue my passions in web programming and building scalable, reactive distributed systems further.
  4. I enjoyed our brief discussion on core PlayFab’s functionalities during an interview in Bucharest last December. The mission of providing a platform for online games seems very appealing to me, and I would love to chat more with you about the work you do and what it is like to work in PlayFab.
  5. In my current internship, I am responsible for improving an algorithm, which serves threads in Yammer’s discovery feed to increase users’ engagement. I am going to work with Java alongside Dropwizard framework and Wavefront for tracking metrics. I genuinely believe it’s going be a fantastic opportunity for me to become not only a better programmer but also expand my knowledge of system architecture.
  6. In my past summer internship at Goldman Sachs, I’ve created a log monitoring tool for a distributed risk calculation platform. The project turned out to be a success and enabled my team to localize bottlenecks and diagnose failures more effectively. Following the summer internship, I stayed there for another five months, where I learned a lot about web development by implementing web services using asynchronous programming in Java and Vert.x library. I also integrated my services with NoSQL document databases.
  7. In addition to the internship experience, I’ve been participating in inspiring projects as a part of advanced coursework at Warsaw University of Technology. For instance, last semester, in a team of four, we’ve built a full stack application that encouraged employees to commute to bike to work by tracking their rides and rewarding them with points for each bike ride from or to their office. During the project, I had the opportunity to participate in various stages of application development. It was my first time setting up a CI/CD pipeline including Jenkins, Sonarqube, Nexus, Docker hub, and an application deployment environment with Kubernetes hosted on Google Kubernetes Engine.
  8. I’d love to talk with you for about 30 minutes, and I hope Wednesday afternoon works. I’ll follow up with a calendar invite for us to connect shortly.
  9. Based on our conversation, I will follow up with my recruiter for what actions I’ll need to take if I would like to pursue a role with your team. They’ve let me know I don’t need any further actions from you as this will be an informational meeting to help me get a greater understanding of the work you do and how it may align with my interests.
  10. Kind regards,
  11. Jan Ferec
