- The President's counsel, Fred Buzhardt, provides another update on his attempts to track down the documents dealing with a domestic surveillance program before the two meet to discuss what took place.
- PRESIDENT NIXON: Hello?
- OPERATOR: Mr. Buzhardt.
- PRESIDENT NIXON: Hi Fred.
- BUZHARDT: Yes sir.
- PRESIDENT NIXON: Did you get the stuff yet?
- BUZHARDT: Yes sir, they're making us a copy now. We have identified it. It is all positively related. The other piece is a synthesis of the original document. Some of it is...well, there's a memo from John Dean to the Attorney General, with reference to this. There are several memos - two, three, four, five, six - six memos from Tom Huston, who was a White House rep for this Inter Agency Committee, to Bob Haldeman, giving him progress reports, between July 1970 and September 21 1970.
- PRESIDENT NIXON: Yeah.
- BUZHARDT: All related to the same subject.
- PRESIDENT NIXON: And this whole business of Internal Intelligence. Well, I can assure you, it was done. And (laughs) it wasn't very successful.
- BUZHARDT: We are moving out, Mr. President, to control this document.
- PRESIDENT NIXON: Yeah, it should be.
- BUZHARDT: It won't leak. The Justice Department have evolved. We're asking the committee to initial the document-
- PRESIDENT NIXON: Right.
- BUZHARDT: -and that it be stored for them here in the NSA. On their call.
- PRESIDENT NIXON: Good job, Fred.
- BUZHARDT: Thank you sir.
