  1. The spiral of silence effect is a theory  in which a person is less likely to voice an opinion on a topic if he or she feels that they are in the minority of  there decision. This can bring heavy bias into the newsroom, but avoiding stories that are affected by the spiral of silence.  The news story we used for our paper is the coverage on who will win the BCS national championship game. Many news sources have different opinions and biases on who will in. For example, Fox Sports had an article titled "Top 10 Reasons Alabama will win the championship game, while "The Daily Reveille (a local newspaper for Louisiana State University) had an article titled "LSU tigers celebrate their national championship win early". Each news source has a different sports writer who has different opinions on who would win, it all just depends on who. The Internet does a better job at trying to be unbiased, because they understand that they could have a wide variety of readers from all over the country, while a local Alabama tv station would want to broadcast some Alabama bias because the majority of their viewers are from Alabama and they wouldn't have to worry about alienating too many potential viewers. The news industry is about getting all the views you can, and they accomplish this by telling the viewers the news that they want to hear.
