  70. Well, I got some mediocre news I guess, you were right - for the most part,
  71. the one that I have online is not authentic nor is the yacht master I was
  72. about to list. However, they're both Swiss movement on the inside and of
  73. the highest quality the gal at Benjamin and son said she's ever seen and
  74. feels the gold is also real and put their value at around $300 a piece (I
  75. also have two of my grandfathers gold pocket watches that are gold filled
  76. that she dated to 1900 and 1910 respectively. Let me know if your at all
  77. interested in any of the watches I have, feel free to make an offer. And
  78. I really do appreciate your candid knowledge and advice.thank you!
  79.
  80. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  81.
  82. Ok so you got me, it wasn't MY grandfathers - but it was my friends
  83. grandfathers watch that I told her I would sell for her because both she
  84. and I thought it was the real deal and she is absolutely in that situation
  85. I described earlier about needing to leave her husband - so i told her I
  86. would get her the most money I could and she was pretty devastated when I
  87. told her what both you and Benjamin and sons confirmed - but I again told
  88. her I would get her the most money I could anyhow. Her grandfather passed
  89. away 2 years ago, my grandfather passed away in 1994, he was Supreme Court
  90. Justice Orris J. Hamilton and served on the Supreme Court here in
  91. Washington state for 19 years before he died of throat and lung cancer back
  92. in 94. I am very proud to be his granddaughter and so I feel horrible for
  93. misleading you about it being my grandfather, he would not have been happy
  94. that I did that and I apologize. Just a side note - my grandfather was not
  95. happy that my father and I both followed the world of technology either -
  96. he was very certain that my father and I would never thrive in any other
  97. line of work but the law and benefit as he did by attending George
  98. Washington College. Being fair and just runs in our family, my great
  99. grandfather was the first Democratic Attorney General in Washington State -
  100. Garrison Wyre Hamilton. So being a lowly PC tech like my Pa who taught me
  101. everything I know and support my family on today - was considered a risky
  102. business venture to my grand dad. He didn't treat us any different because
  103. of our career choice in the end however and was a very good man. Sorry for
  104. the biography there but I just had to brag a little because you keep
  105. delivering smack downs with your info. Once again after looking at your
  106. pics, I believe that you could be correct but I actually do have more
  107. additional links to the band that were either replaced or purchased to
  108. extend the band and although they are laser etched with a number, B&S
  109. didn't take the watch band off either but the clasp in your picture a few
  110. pics back on the photobucket sight looks way more substantial then mine. So
  111. what do you say we just meet in person and you check them out yourself? My
  112. office is located at 3700 Pacific Ave. SE Suite C Olympia, WA 98501. I'm
  113. free today and can meet at your convenience. Let me know!
  114.
  115. Thanks for everything!

  123.
  124. So sorry for the belated results, but here they are as accurately as I was able to recount them while suffering mild shock - LOL:
  125.
  126. I took the yacht master to a well known pawn broker in our area, just to see what they would offer me for the gold. I only chose this place because a friend of mine is related to the manager there and she has always told me how scrutinizing they are about what gold they buy and that it's only a small percentage of what they actually see and turn down in a day. So I went in to see said relative but ended up working with the assistant manager instead because the manager had actually called in sick today. After handing the watch over - again they went through the whole rigamarole with the authenticity questions and of course began testing the gold. Once again, not only did it test positive for platinum on the inner vein of the watch band with their acid test, it also tested positive for platinum with the hand held unit that tells what percentage of what metals are in it from what I understood. They were only able to perform the tests on the band after asking me permission to remove the band from the watch face itself which also then exposed the serial number which was found to be in the correct spot and apparently jived with some serial number look up chart that matches date codes and other info specific only to that year and model of the watch.
  127.
  128. At that point they informed me that they actually see only about 3 authentic Rolexes a year and that once they are purchased from Joe Customer, they instantly turn around and ship them down to their Las Vegas Mega Store - who then sells said Rolexes for close to retail to an overindulging and perhaps undereducated I assume, loyal and wealthy client. I felt it necessary for my own conscience sake - to confirm outloud what I believed it was they were insinuating which would be an enormous gamble and even larger possible responsibility to accept possible consequences - upon purchasing my Yachtmaster because I was not certain of anything at all in regards to it being authentic as a whole or even part for that matter. It was my impression that they did not seem to be to concerned with which parts were which or perhaps if any of the watch was actually authentic really. Their logic was focused on that because the platinum was real and when they removed the watch band - the serial number on the one side X41900 was placed appropriately and "looked good", they felt they would make a very nice profit on it regardless of the minor specifics regarding its status as authentic or replica and then promptly offered me a cold $1300 cash for it right there on the spot, no joke. I was obviously caught off guard by the offer, and so all I kept thinking about was the disappointment i had seen on my friends face the day before when i gave her the bad news about them not being worth the $600 total, and then pictured how happy she would be if I showed up to give her twice that after selling only one of the watches the very next day.
  129.
  130. Brandon, I really can't tell you I actually remember saying the words - "You have yourself a deal!" but I know I must have said it to them because before I knew it, I was walking out the door with that $1300 in cash in my hand. With my receipt as proof in hand, I delivered the cash without notice to my friend tonight and I will say that I would do it all over again if given the option. After a short balling fit of joy, we both jumped in my car and delivered $1000 of the money to the lawyer she wanted to hire for her divorce in order to secure them on retainer and the other $300 she's saving to put down as deposit for a home when she finds one that will be suitable for her and her kids.
  131.
  132. If your still interested in the submariner - I'm afraid I would need your offer to be at least enough to come close to the scrap gold \ value if I were to sell it to you and hope you can understand why. Heck, I would even take $100 less then that just so I wouldn't have to give up another watch to a place that may very well try to sell it as authentic though they are well aware it may not be. At that point - the worst you would do upon purchasing the submariner from me would be to make some quick cash - a minimum of $100 (possibly more with the addition of a hot shower as well if selling to the place i dealt with today) if you found a gold buyer with any amount of moral compass whatsoever and sold it to them for just the scrap value.
  133.
  134. I did not have them test the submariner today because I felt that the watches are going to likely have the same results - from what I understand of my friends knowledge of their history. Plus I didn't want to walk into a strange new place with the limited knowledge I have pertaining to the watch world in general - with two Rolexes and the word "rookie" stamped across my forehead, just so the vultures didn't get the chance to have a bigger feast then the one watch would allow - if that was in fact my fate in terms of preparing for the worst case scenario.......
  135.
  136. I still am so very thankful for your assistance with my knew found wisdom and do hope you want the submariner, but want you to know that it is completely fine if you are still not convinced with the gold purity and choose not to purchase it. at this point - I am not sure what form of validation you might be willing to accept as proof positive that it is. Balls in your court, I'm willing to jump through any hoop you would feel comfortable with in terms of validating the gold in the band. Its the least I can do to repay you for your time and knowledge you have shared freely with me to this point. I firmly believe that even if the watches themselves may not be authentic, that you could very well be correct with your assumption that the bands themselves are - which in turn would explain the gold being solid and of the correct purity. Looking forward to hearing your response, open to anything you can think of that may allow for you to feel good about purchasing the watch from me. I am confident that everything we can know about the watch has been uncovered as far as I am able - However, I think your trained eye may be what's needed to uncover the last leg of it's story, if there is one.
  137.
