Ryo: I can’t exactly say it’s going well. There’s a lot of text to go through.

司馬博士
「この[ビルドベース]には、
多くの遺跡関連の資料が集めてあるからな」
Dr. Shiba: There is a great deal of documents relating to historical ruins gathered in the [Build Base], but...

司馬博士
「もっとも、
私が[デーモン]関連の資料を分類していれば、
君に苦労を掛けることはなかったのだが…」
Dr. Shiba: If only I had thought to sort through the documents pertaining to [Demons], I would have saved you no small amount of trouble...

「いえ、司馬博士にそれをお願いするのは
筋違いというものです」
Ryo: No, it wouldn’t feel right to ask that of you anyways, Dr. Shiba.

「そして、資料の中から
デーモンの兆候を読み取ることが出来るのは、
おそらく俺だけでしょうから」
Ryo: Besides, I’m probably the only one that can read and understand the Demons’ signs in these documents.

「飛鳥教授の薫陶を受けた君だからこそなせる技か」
Dr. Shiba: Thanks to the training you received from Professor Asuka, no doubt.

Ryo: (It’s not just that. Lately, I’ve had a strange knack for sniffing out anything Demonic...)

「お疲れ様、了君。お茶が入ったわよ」
Uzuki: You’re doing good work, Ryo. I’ve got some tea for you.

Ryo: Thanks, Uzuki.

「あまり根を詰めちゃ駄目よ。
あなたは生身の人間なんだから」
Uzuki: Don’t overwork yourself, now. You’re still only human you know.

「それじゃ、素直に休むとするよ。
お茶をいただいた後でね」
Ryo: When you put it like that, I suppose I should take a break and stretch my legs. Right after I’ve had my tea.

「よう、了。休憩か?」
Hiroshi: Hey there, Ryo. Done for the day?

「いや、着替えを取りに家へ帰る」
Ryo: No, just going home for a change of clothes.

宙
「なら、俺のバイクで送ってやろうか?」
Hiroshi: Then how about I give you a ride on my bike?

「遠慮する。車で来ているし、
帰りに牧村邸の様子も見ておきたいからな」
Ryo: Thanks, but I’ll pass. I drove here, and I wanted to stop by the Makimura household too.

「あそこは自衛隊の特殊部隊が
ガードしてるんじゃなかったか?」
Hiroshi: Aren’t the JSDF on guard there?

「ああ。いつぞやの一件以来、
デーモンは牧村邸には現れていないが…
明との約束もある」
Ryo: They are. The Demons may not have shown up at the Makimura residence since that last time but... I made a promise with Akira.

「ふっ、あいつもいいダチを持ったな。
自分の彼女を心配してくれるんだからよ」
Hiroshi: Heh, he’s got one hell of a friend, I see. And he worries for his girlfriend too.

Ryo: (Girlfriend...)

宙
「ともかく、隠し持ってる散弾銃は
見つからないようにしろよ。
バレたら面倒事になるぜ」
Hiroshi: Anyways, just make sure you don’t let anyone find that shotgun you keep concealed on you. You’d get in a lot of trouble if anyone noticed it.

Ryo: I’ll be careful.

(The screen flashes with a click.)

「うっ…」
Ryo: Ngh...!

「カメラのフラッシュか?」
Hiroshi: Was that a camera flash?

「すみません、宙…さん。
驚かせてしまいまして」
???: My apologies, Hiroshi...sir. I did not mean to frighten you.

「吉村さんじゃないか。
今日は非番の日じゃなかったっけ?」
Hiroshi: Oh, it’s just you, Yoshimura. I thought you had the day off?

吉村
「実は急用があって…」
Yoshimura: Some urgent business came up, you see...

「それで俺の写真を撮ったのか? どうして?」
Hiroshi: Is that why you took a picture of me?

吉村
「いえ、その、所内を撮影していたら、
たまたま宙さんがそこにいて…」
Yoshimura: No, er, I was actually taking pictures of the interior and you just happen to be there...

「何だ、そうだったのかよ」
Hiroshi: Oh, that’s all it was.

Ryo: ...This man isn’t human, Hiroshi.

Hiroshi: I’m sorry?

「何を言ってるんです?」
Yoshimura: Whatever could you mean by that?

(Ryo pulls out his shotgun.)

「動くな」
Ryo: Don’t move.

吉村
「!!」
Yoshimura: !!

宙
「おい、何の真似だ、了! 銃を下ろせ!」
Hiroshi: What are you doing, Ryo!? Lower your gun!

吉村
「そ、そうですよ!」
Yoshimura: L-Listen to him!

「俺の目は誤魔化せないぞ」
Ryo: You can’t fool me.

(Ryo shoots Yoshimura.)

吉村
「あぐっ…!!」
Yoshimura: Agh...!!

宙
「よ、吉村さん!!」
Hiroshi: Y-Yoshimura!!

「その男に近づくな!」
Ryo: Don’t get close to him!

宙
「!!」
Hiroshi: !!

(Ikima’s disguise disappears.)

イキマ
「おのれ、光画機が…!」
Ikima: The photographic apparatus...!

宙
「イキマ!?」
Hiroshi: Ikima!?

「言った通りだろう。
そいつが所員に化けていたんだ」
Ryo: I told you so. This guy was impersonating a staff member.

イキマ
「貴様…何故、俺の正体がわかった?」
Ikima: Damn you... How did you know who I really was?

了
「デーモンを相手にしているからな。
鼻が利くのさ」
Ryo: Because you’ve been dealing with Demons. I could smell the stench off you.

宙
「イキマ! 本物の吉村さんはどうした!?」
Hiroshi: Ikima! What did you do to the real Yoshimura!?

イキマ
「我らに捕らえられ、牢に入れられておるわ」
Ikima: He is confined within our prison.

宙
「貴様ぁ…」
Hiroshi: Bastard...!

イキマ
(先程の射撃で光画機を壊された…!
かくなる上は、写した物を
何としても持ち帰らねばならん)
Ikima: (That gun of his destroyed the photographic apparatus a moment ago...! I must bring back the pictures I have at all costs!)

イキマ
「司馬宙、貴様と遊んでいる暇はない!
さらばだ!」
Ikima: I’ve no time to play with you, Hiroshi Shiba! Farewell!

(Ikima makes a run for it.)

宙
「あっ! 待ちやがれ!!」
Hiroshi: Hey! Hold it right there!!

『銅鐸の在処』
Episode 62
The Bronze Bell’s Whereabouts


(Scene begins on the map screen of the Build Base. Steel Jeeg is on the map. Ikima is a few tiles ahead of the Build Base.)

イキマ
「よもや人間に正体を見破られるとは…!」
Ikima: How could a human have seen through my disguise...!?

鋼鉄ジーグ
「あの野郎、ビルドベースに潜入しておきながら
とっとと逃げるのかよ!?」
Steel Jeeg: That scoundrel sneaks into the Build Base, and now he thinks he can just escape!?

(Kaim and Haniwa Phantoms appear.)

カイム
「イキマよ、ここは俺が引き受ける」
Kaim: I’ll take it from here, Ikima.

イキマ
「カイムか!」
Ikima: Kaim!

カイム
「お前には借りがある。さあ、急げ」
Kaim: I owe you a debt. Now, hurry.

イキマ
「ならば、後は任せるぞ」
Ikima: In that case, I leave the rest to you.

(Ikima leaves the map.)

鋼鉄ジーグ
「あのデーモン、こっちの足を止める気か!」
Steel Jeeg: That Demon’s keeping me from following!

カイム
「この先には行かせんぞ、鋼鉄ジーグ!」
Kaim: I will not allow you past me, Steel Jeeg!

鋼鉄ジーグ
「なら、貴様を片付けるまでだ!」
Steel Jeeg: Then I’ll take care of you first!

(Battle 1 begins.)

(This exchange triggers when Steel Jeeg and Kaim battle each other.)

鋼鉄ジーグ
「カイムとか言ったな!
[邪魔大王国]に手を貸すなら、容赦はしねえ!」
Steel Jeeg: He said your name was Kaim, isn’t that right!? If you’re lending a hand to the [Jamatai Empire], then you’ll get no mercy from me!

カイム
「俺の心は常に一つ。そのためならば…!」
Kaim: I have always stuck to my beliefs. No matter what...!

(Battle 1 ends when Kaim’s HP is below 50%.)

鋼鉄ジーグ
「お前らの狙いは何だ!?
イキマは何をしに来やがったんだ!?」
Steel Jeeg: What is it you’re after!? Why did Ikima come here!?

カイム
「俺は何も知らん。
もうしばらくの間、相手をしてもらうぞ」
Kaim: I do not know. Regardless, I shall be your opponent for a while longer.


(Scene ends.)

(Next scene picks up where it left off.)


鋼鉄ジーグ
「何も知らねえだと!?
だったら、力尽くで口を割らせてやるぜ!」
Steel Jeeg: You expect me to believe you don’t know!? Then I’ll have to use force to get it out of you!

カイム
「ふっ…出来るかな、それが」
Kaim: Heh... I’m afraid you won’t be able to.

(Haniwa Phantoms appear and surround Steel Jeeg.)

鋼鉄ジーグ
「ちっ、新手か!」
Steel Jeeg: Tch, reinforcements!

カイム
「ここから先には行かせんと言ったぞ」
Kaim: I told you that I would not allow you past me.

鋼鉄ジーグ
「雑魚がどれだけ増えようと…!」
Steel Jeeg: They’re just small fries, but with these numbers...!

(The Ra Cailum, the player’s team, and Devilman appear.)

鋼鉄ジーグ
「ラー・カイラム!
みんな、来てくれたのか!」
Steel Jeeg: The Ra Cailum! You’re all here!

甲児
「ああ、光子力研究所へ戻る途中、
ビルドベースが襲われてるって聞いたんだ」
Koji: Yeah, we were on our way back to the Photon Power Lab when we heard the Build Base was under attack.

デビルマン
「カイム!
邪魔大王国の手下に心底成り下がったか!」
Devilman: Kaim! So you’re working under the Jamatai Empire’s heel now!

カイム
「何とでも言え。
俺は俺の信念に基づいて行動している」
Kaim: Say what you will. I am acting on my own principles.

デビルマン
「なら、その信念とやらと
一緒にくたばりやがれ!」
Devilman: Then you can die right along with your lofty principles!

(Battle 2 begins.)

(Battle 2 ends when Kaim is defeated.)

カイム
「今回の目的は果たした…!」
Kaim: I’ve done what I came here to do...!

(Kaim leaves the map.)

鋼鉄ジーグ
「逃げやがったか…!」
Steel Jeeg: He’s running away...!

デビルマン
「ふん、口ほどにもねえ。
あの程度の手勢でビルドベースを
攻め落とせるとでも思ったのかよ」
Devilman: Hmph, he was all talk. Did he really think that pitiful force would be enough to take down the Build Base?

鋼鉄ジーグ
「いや、あいつらの目的は
そうじゃなかったみたいなんだ」
Steel Jeeg: No, I don’t think that’s what he came for.

豹馬
「なら、何しに来たんだよ?」
Hyoma: Then why did he come?

鋼鉄ジーグ
「イキマが所員に化けて、
ビルドベースの中を撮影していた」
Steel Jeeg: Ikima disguised himself as a staff member and infiltrated the Build Base to take pictures of it.

豹馬
「はあ?観光客かよ」
Hyoma: Huh? What, is he a tourist now?

鉄也
「邪魔大王国の幹部が写真撮影だけで
済ますはずがない。何か裏がある」
Tetsuya: There’s no way someone that high up in the Jamatai Empire came just to take a few selfies. There’s something more to this.

アムロ
「ああ、あのデーモンは俺達の足止めに
徹していたからな」
Amuro: That’s right, all that Demon wanted was to slow us down.

バナージ
「デーモンの信念…
ただ生きることへの執着とは違う想い…」
Banagher: A Demon with principles... He wasn’t just thinking about his own skin...

デビルマン
「考えるのはやめときな。
悪魔を理解しちまったら、
今度はお前が人間じゃなくなる番だぜ」
Devilman: Don’t even think like that. The second you start sympathizing with Demons is the second you stop being human.

「………」
Banagher: ...

Jamatai Empire – Base


イキマ
「申し訳ございませぬ、ヒミカ様。
ビルドベース内に侵入したものの、
心臓部を撮影するまでには至りませんでした」
Ikima: My deepest apologies, Lady Himika. I was able to infiltrate the Build Base, but I was not able to photograph the inner heart of the base.

ヒミカ
「何故じゃ? うぬの変装は完璧じゃったはず」
Himika: And why is that? Your disguise should have been perfect.

イキマ
「はっ、司馬宙ですら
我が正体には気付きませなんだが、
一人の男に見破られまして…」
Ikima: Yes, even Hiroshi Shiba did not suspect my true identity, but one man saw through it completely...

ヒミカ
「何者じゃ?」
Himika: Who is this man?

イキマ
「ビルドベースの者ではないと思いますが、
詳細はわかりませぬ」
Ikima: I don’t believe he is one of the Build Base’s personnel, but I know not the specifics of this individual.

イキマ
「ただ、デーモンを相手にしているから
鼻が利くと言っておりました」
Ikima: However, he said that he could tell I have had dealings with Demons.

ヒミカ
「ふむ…サイコジェニーに聞いておくか。
して、うぬが撮ってきた写真を見せよ」
Himika: Hm... I’ll have to ask Psycho Jenny about him. Now, show me the pictures you have taken.

イキマ
「ははっ、これでございます」
Ikima: Yes, my lady, here they are.

ヒミカ
「………」
Himika: ...

ヒミカ
「むう…それらしき物は写っておらぬな」
Himika: Hmph... There is nothing of value in these pictures.

「やはり、ビルドベースの心臓部を
撮影せねばならぬのでは…?」
Mimashi: Then do we still need to take pictures of the Build Base’s center?

「これが最後の一枚でございます。
司馬宙と、先程申し上げた男が写っております」
Ikima: This is the last picture. You can see Hiroshi Shiba and the man I mentioned previously.

ヒミカ
「むっ、これは…!
司馬宙の心の臓の近くにカプセルがある」
Himika: Wait a moment...! There’s a capsule near Hiroshi Shiba’s heart.

アマソ
「確かに…」
Amaso: Yes, there is...

ヒミカ
「心の臓の傍にあるからには、
司馬宙の生命と同じくらい大事な物に
相違あるまい…」
Himika: Since it’s this close to his heart, it must be as important as Hiroshi Shiba’s life itself...

「ククク…よくやったぞ、イキマよ!
これは銅鐸じゃ、銅鐸に違いない!」
Himika: Hmhmhm... You’ve done fine work, Ikima! This is the Bronze Bell, without a doubt!

Ikima: It is...!?

「お言葉ですが、ヒミカ様。
銅鐸はそのように小さな物なのでしょうか?
いえ、その前に銅鐸だと決まったわけでは…」
Amaso: With all due respect, Lady Himika, is the Bronze Bell truly so small? No, I’m certain the Bronze Bell was much more—

うぬは妾の考えに異議を申し立てる気か!」
Himika: Amaso! Are you objecting to what your mistress has said is fact!?

「め、滅相もございませぬ!」
Amaso: B-By no means, my lady!

己が最も守らねばならぬ物を、
司馬宙の体内に隠すとはな」
Himika: Senjiro Shiba is a shrewd man. To hide what he must protect the most in the body of Hiroshi Shiba...

最も安全な隠し場所かも知れませぬな」
Ikima: Perhaps he has done so because it was the safest place to conceal it.

「じゃが、妾がそれに気付いた以上、
司馬遷次郎の目論見は崩れ去る!」
Himika: But now that I am aware, Senjiro Shiba’s ruse has been for naught!

「者共よ、以後は狙いを司馬宙に…
鋼鉄ジーグに絞り込め! あやつを捕らえ、
妾の前に引っ立てるのじゃ!」
Himika: From now on, you shall target Hiroshi Shiba... Steel Jeeg! Capture him, and bring him before your mistress!

「ははーっ!」
Ikima: Yes, my lady!

「そうか、イキマがそのようなことを…」
Dr. Shiba: I see, so that was what Ikima had said...

「あいつ、てっきり所内で暴れ回るのかと思ったら、
さっさと逃げやがったんだ」
Hiroshi: I’m sure he intended to cause trouble inside the base, but he ran away before he had the chance.

ミサト
「偵察が目的だったとしても、中途半端ね」
Misato: Even if his goal was reconnaissance, he did a pretty half-assed job.

「おそらく、ビルドベース内にある何かを…
彼らにとって重要な物の在処を
探っていたのではないかと思います」
Ryo: Perhaps they were looking for something within the Build Base... Like the location of something they deemed important.

Hiroshi: Something important...

「もしかして…」
Uzuki: It could be...

「司馬博士、あなたが25年前に発見した銅鐸です」
Ryo: The Bronze Bell Dr. Shiba discovered 25 years ago.

司馬博士

Dr. Shiba:

「その銅鐸って、確か…」
Koji: This Bronze Bell, is that...?

「父さんはそいつを調べて、
邪魔大王国の存在を知った。
そうだよな?」
Hiroshi: It was what my father was investigating when he learned about the Jamatai Empire. Isn’t that right?

司馬博士
「ああ…私は、あれに彼らの重大な秘密が
隠されていると思っている」
Dr. Shiba: Yes... I believe that is the great secret they had hidden away.

ミサト
「それは、どのような物なのです?」
Misato: So what exactly is it?

司馬博士
「まだ解析できていません。そして、
了君の予測が正しければ、邪魔大王国の者達は
あれが私の手元にあると思っているようです」
Dr. Shiba: We have not yet been able to analyze it. But if Ryo’s prediction proves true, then the Jamatai Empire must think that it is within my possession.

「そりゃ、そうだろうな」
Akira: Well, isn’t it?

宙
「そう言や、前に銅鐸がどこにあるか
聞いても教えてくれなかったよな。
重要機密だ、の一点張りでさ」
Hiroshi: I asked you before where the Bronze Bell was, but you didn’t give me an answer. You said that it was highly classified, and very important.

司馬博士
「そうだ。
あれが邪魔大王国の手に渡ることは
何としても避けねばならん」
Dr. Shiba: That’s correct. And we must prevent it from falling into the Jamatai Empire’s hands at all costs.

「どこにあるのか、
実の息子にも言えないってのかよ?」
Hiroshi: And you can’t even tell your own son where it is?

司馬博士
「………」
Dr. Shiba: ...

ミサト
「博士、私達の今後の作戦にも関わることです。
教えていただけませんか、銅鐸の在処を」
Misato: Doctor, this is going to have an impact on our future operations. Please, tell us where the Bronze Bell is located.

司馬博士

Dr. Shiba: ...

「言えない所に隠してあるんですね?」
Ryo: It’s hidden somewhere you can’t tell us, right?

司馬博士
「…その通りだ」
Dr. Shiba: ...You are correct.

「父さん! みんなを邪魔大王国との戦いに
巻き込んでおいて、その答えはないぜ!
俺達を信用してくれよ!」
Hiroshi: Father! You dragged us into the battle with the Jamatai Empire, and yet you won’t give us an answer!? You can trust us!

「…わかった、教えよう。
銅鐸の隠し場所は…」
Dr. Shiba: ...Very well, I’ll tell you. The Bronze Bell is located...

「宙、お前の体内だ」
Dr. Shiba: Within your own body, Hiroshi.

Hiroshi: !!

「ほ、本当ですか、博士!?」
Koji: A-Are you for real, Doctor!?

司馬博士
「ああ。
宙の心臓近くに埋め込まれているカプセル…
その中に入っている」
Dr. Shiba: Yes. There is a capsule implanted close to Hiroshi’s heard. ...It lies within that.

「銅鐸って、そんなに小せえのかよ?」
Akira: The Bronze Bell is really that small?

「いや…一般的には10センチから
1メートルぐらいの大きさだ」
Ryo: No... They’re typically within 10 centimeters to a meter in size.

「お、俺の身体の中に銅鐸が…!」
Hiroshi: Th-The Bronze Bell is within my body...!?

(確かに、宙君にその話は出来ないわね)
Misato: (Yeah, I can see why he couldn’t tell Hiroshi about that.)

「父さん、何でそんなことを!?
どうして今まで教えてくれなかったんだ!?」
Hiroshi: Father, how could you do this!? Why did you never tell me until now!?

司馬博士
「敵を欺くには味方から、と言うだろう。
そして、鋼鉄ジーグとして高い戦闘能力を持つ
お前こそが銅鐸の最も安全な隠し場所なのだ」
Dr. Shiba: They say to fool the enemy, you must first fool your allies. Furthermore, as Steel Jeeg, your incredible fighting strength made you the most secure place to hide the Bronze Bell.

「だからって…!」
Hiroshi: Even so...!

(…厳しい父親ね)
Misato: (...That’s pretty cold for a father to do.)

司馬博士
「葛城二佐、
邪魔大王国が銅鐸の在処に気付いた可能性が
少しでもあるのなら…」
Dr. Shiba: Lieutenant Colonel Katsuragi, if there is even a small chance that the Jamatai Empire has learned the location of the Bronze Bell...

司馬博士
「この話の前に提案していただいた件を
了承しましょう」
Dr. Shiba: Then I will accept the proposal you made before this conversation began.

ミサト
「では、以後、宙君は私達に同行するということで
よろしいですね?」
Misato: You mean, to have Hiroshi accompany us from now on?

司馬博士
「ええ。
我々の敵は邪魔大王国だけではありませんので。
…宙もそれでいいな?」
Dr. Shiba: Yes. There are more enemies than just the Jamatai Empire to contend with, after all. ...Do you agree to this, Hiroshi?

Hiroshi: ...

「条件が一つある」
Hiroshi: I have one condition.

Kamille: ...I see, so that’s what happened.

Guy: I’m sure Dr. Shiba thought hard before going through with that.

「お前と違って、俺は何も知らない内に
サイボーグにされてたんだぜ。しかも、
邪魔大王国が狙ってる銅鐸付きで」
Hiroshi: Unlike you, I didn’t even realize when I had become a cyborg. And now I learn that this mechanical body came with the Bronze Bell attached, what the Jamatai Empire were after the whole time.

「冷静に考えてみりゃ、父親としてどうかと思うぜ」
Hiroshi: I can’t see how he could have been thinking like a father when he did that.

美和
「宙さん…」
Uzuki: Hiroshi...

「何だかんだで自分の身体のことを
受け入れてる宙さんは凄いと思うが…」
Show: At the very least, I think it’s good that you’re accepting your body for what it is.

Hiroshi: I understand how dire the situation is with the Jamatai Empire. But that doesn’t mean I agree with keeping secrets.

Tetsuya: Dr. Shiba has lost his body as well.

Akira: He said nothing when turning his own son into a cyborg, and turned himself into a computer... There’s no other family quite like them.

Koji: That’s right. Our robots are strong and ready to fight any time.

「いや、戦う理由に迷いがあるわけじゃない。

Akira: By the way... What was that condition you had for Dr. Shiba at the end of our talk back there?

「ああ、父さんは自分の研究が最優先で
家庭を顧みなくてな。俺はそれに反発し、
父さんからの生活費の受け取りを拒否してた」
Hiroshi: Right, so, my father always prioritized his research over his family in the past. Since I was lashing out at him, I refused to accept any charity from him.

「だけど、うちの家計は火の車でな…
母さんはそれを隠してるが、俺は気付いてた」
Hiroshi: But, my family was in dire straits when it came to money... My mother tried to hide it, but I could tell.

「だから、司馬モータースを始めたり、
レースで賞金を稼いでたりしてたんだが…
今後はそれもままならなくなる」
Hiroshi: That’s why I started up Shiba Motors and started racing for prize money... But I can’t really rely on that anymore at this point.

資金援助を頼んだってわけか」
Akira: So you asked Dr. Shiba for financial support.

「このままじゃ、また母さんが俺に黙って
内職したり、余所で働こうとするからな」
Hiroshi: If I didn’t, then my mother would have just ended up getting another side job without telling me.

Show: You really care about your family, don’t you, Hiroshi?

「人並みさ。
ただ、本当の意味で一家の大黒柱になれない
俺と父さんは、男として失格かもな…」
Hiroshi: I’m nothing special. Besides, if my father and I can’t support our family, then we’re not even cut out to be men...
