  1. [12:00:20] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Hello everyone
  2. [12:00:51] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Welcome to the town workshop. It won't be that long
  3. [12:00:58] @ZestOfLife ㋡: hopefully
  4. [12:02:25] @ZestOfLife ㋡: So firstly I would like to talk about what mafia is exactly briefly, a game of mafia is where normally there are two factions, the "informed" minority (mafia) and the "uninformed" majority (town).
  5. [12:04:11] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Town would have to eliminate mafia to win and mafia wants to obtain majority to win.
  6. [12:07:05] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Now people wonder, how would town figure out who are mafia when they have near zero info? Well this is where the social aspect of the game comes in play.
  7. [12:07:05] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Town attempts to "read" information (in this case the chat) in-order to distinguish between their own and mafia. Mafia tries to do the opposite by misinforming town.
  8. [12:07:59] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Hopefully this workshop would help you in doing this, or simply give you some more ideas if ur already experienced
  9. [12:09:25] @ZestOfLife ㋡: ok
  10. [12:09:39] @ZestOfLife ㋡: So, firstly ill talk about power roles
  11. [12:09:52] @ZestOfLife ㋡: since they help town alot in most of the themes hosted
  12. [12:11:44] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Power roles basically help in assisting town to give some leverage in the information defect, and to add the fun element of the game.
  13. [12:13:39] @ZestOfLife ㋡: As town, you would like to utilize these abilities as greatly as you could, since that's one of town's main gate of information
  14. [12:14:18] @ZestOfLife ㋡: there's one thing you should never do as a town power role and I think most ppl know what it is
  15. [12:14:27] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Don't claim it immediately
  16. [12:15:13] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Yes, since your one of town's assets in collecting information (to catch mafia), in this case you want to live as long as possible, or even until the end of the game.
  17. [12:16:11] @ZestOfLife ㋡: (if ppl don't know what claiming is it's basically telling people what your role is btw)
  18. [12:16:43] @ZestOfLife ㋡: What you do wanna do is, claim when the time is right, and there are few scenarios where this happens:
  19. [12:17:29] @ZestOfLife ㋡: You collect information which immediately help in lynching one of the mafioso (mafioso = singular of mafia)
  20. [12:18:18] @ZestOfLife ㋡: You are getting lynched and you can do nothing about it (re-read the part where you wanna live as long as possible)
  21. [12:20:32] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Or if there's a way to win the game immediately (eg suppose it's classic with 1 Mafia, 3 Townies and you as cop, if you know 2/3 townies, you know by process of elimination, that the remaining players definitely has mafia in it)
  22. [12:21:15] @ZestOfLife ㋡: There are ofc more scenarios but if I start covering those it'll take me alot of time
  23. [12:21:38] @ZestOfLife ㋡: these ones usually appear most frequently
  24. [12:23:55] @ZestOfLife ㋡: forgot one more
  25. [12:24:33] @ZestOfLife ㋡: If you know that you can claim without dying at night (example Cop claiming when there's only a doctor and mafia can't do much about it)
  26. [12:24:48] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Now, I know that it might be hard to decide what tf to do at night, who to target, etc, those are difficult choices, I can give some tips which might help you in choosing your target better
  27. [12:26:13] @ZestOfLife ㋡: First one is obvious, if you are a protective role like doctor, you normally want to aim to protect important power roles like cop (if the cop has already claimed, definitely protect them)
  28. [12:28:57] @ZestOfLife ㋡: If you are an inspecting role, it's actually normally a really good idea to inspect players who you can't in general get a good tell on (like lurkers for example), or maybe players who you don't really think are mafia but you dont think they are town either (null slots)
  29. [12:30:32] @ZestOfLife ㋡: ^ this could also probably apply to roleblock roles, but there are times where other power roles behave this way
  30. [12:30:59] @ZestOfLife ㋡: so usually you wanna most likely target your scumread as a roleblocker role
  31. [12:31:07] @ZestOfLife ㋡: ok so I think that's all for power roles
  32. [12:32:34] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Now lets shift our action to the main part of the game, they dayphase, where you try to analyse horde of nonsencial text and try to randomly vote who you think mafia is
  33. [12:34:03] @ZestOfLife ㋡: So, as a townie, you want to catch mafia, but I want to remind you that you are not playing the game by yourself, you do have a team (the whole town in this case). So the first best thing you can do as town is
  34. [12:34:06] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Don't lurk
  35. [12:34:51] @ZestOfLife ㋡: I know people love to keep their analysis to themselves but
  36. [12:35:34] @ZestOfLife ㋡: it doesn't help since your other teammates will not be able to figure out if you are town or not
  37. [12:36:02] @ZestOfLife ㋡: and also it's ineffective since people are most likely not going to follow you if you don't explain your actions
  38. [12:37:02] @ZestOfLife ㋡: So you want to be bold, and try to express what you think as much as you can even how silly you think it is better than lurking atleast
  39. [12:38:51] @ZestOfLife ㋡: So people will ofc question, what usually helps in distinguising town players from mafia players (I know I sometimes get this feeling where I feel everyone is town/scum) but there are some ways you could tackle this
  40. [12:41:20] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Usually, every player will do something in the game with some xyz reasoning (this is true, unless you are playing randomly then why tf are you playing then). Mafia will similarly try to form fake reasoning in hopes of misinforming (mislynching) town.
  41. [12:42:15] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Basically, try to read the motif behind players actions, try to judge and see if their mindset comes from a town point of view or it's scum just trying to win the game
  42. [12:42:43] @ZestOfLife ㋡: or if*
  43. [12:43:27] @ZestOfLife ㋡: If you don't clearly understand what a player is doing, try to question them for it
  44. [12:44:58] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Alternatively you wanna press questions on players (since inqurying more could lead you to strengthen an opinon on them/allow room for slip-ups as mafia being the informed faction can say something where townies would normally are ???)
  45. [12:45:45] @ZestOfLife ㋡: ^ this can also be done using votes as pressure
  46. [12:48:56] @ZestOfLife ㋡: So then you wanna state your opinion on other players (reads) which helps to do 3 things normally a) it helps other townies to read you and to also validate/support your opinion b) it helps in clearling misunderstanding with your other teammate if you misread them
  47. [12:48:56] @ZestOfLife ㋡: c) it helps to add pressure if you were correct on mafia (mafia hate pressure remember this)
  48. [12:49:01] @ZestOfLife ㋡: damn alot to type
  49. [12:49:36] @ZestOfLife ㋡: You can place your vote anytime where you feel that it would help you to build your opinion on a slot better
  50. [12:49:44] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Just do not lolhammer srsly
  51. [12:50:37] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Now imagine if you were on the flipside of things, you are a townie who is going to get lynched! People aren't getting you and that's ok it will happen many times when you play mafia
  52. [12:52:20] @ZestOfLife ㋡: In this scenario, think like ur a defendent at ur last attempt of proving innocence, you should try to press forward on why you are a member of the town and try to support them as much as you can by still, doing the above stuff
  53. [12:52:31] @ZestOfLife ㋡: What you do not want to do is... just quit
  54. [12:52:52] @ZestOfLife ㋡: quitting sucks and it makes ppl mad anyways
  55. [12:54:55] @ZestOfLife ㋡: You also do not want to... falsely claim (a power role usually) something you aren't, you aren't helping anyone by trying to misguide town (that's mafia job anyways) and that usually ends bad where the real role steps up and guns you down anyways
  56. [12:55:57] @ZestOfLife ㋡: and finally, showing emotions is ok but don't personally attack ppl it doesn't help creating a bad enviourment.
  57. [12:56:09] @ZestOfLife ㋡: and idk how much this helps in saving you anyways
  58. [12:56:15] @ZestOfLife ㋡: ok finally done with this kek
  59. [12:56:19] @ZestOfLife ㋡: now
  60. [12:57:14] @ZestOfLife ㋡: I think im close to finishing this, I would like to cover something which mafia will try to do, especially when they are severly pressured when they see townies being able to identify themselves reletively easily
  61. [12:57:22] @ZestOfLife ㋡: and that is "bussing"
  62. [12:57:59] @ZestOfLife ㋡: an act where mafia will delibrately get their own lynched, inorder to attempt to show themselves as a town member
  63. [12:58:28] @ZestOfLife ㋡: this actually is really hard to spot, if it's really well planned (and this is where inspection roles might come in handy if you suspect such behaviour)
  64. [13:00:25] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Sometimes they aren't planned well, (remember! even if someone gets mafia lynched, if the reasoning is not great, hesisate to call them town then)
  65. [13:01:18] @ZestOfLife ㋡: So like you can spot this act by observing weird or shady reasoning for lynching a mafia representative (or weird interaction between the two of them)
  66. [13:02:07] @ZestOfLife ㋡: then it's most likely a bus
  67. [13:02:30] @ZestOfLife ㋡: (dw if you can't do all of this it builds with experience as you play on)
  68. [13:02:48] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Ok finally
  69. [13:02:56] @ZestOfLife ㋡: We discuss the joker card of town
  70. [13:03:02] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Policy Lynches
  71. [13:04:33] @ZestOfLife ㋡: This thing is interesting since when a newer player especially I have observed, tries to use this inappropraitely, and often not, there isn't a policy lynch anyways (really it's just you thinking they are mafia for something mafiasos really do)
  72. [13:05:10] @ZestOfLife ㋡: The only good policy lynch I can think of is, if someone blatently lied
  73. [13:05:23] @ZestOfLife ㋡: ok that's all I guess
  74. [13:07:19] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Q&A time rofl try to disprove question anything you wanna question
  75. [13:09:48] @ZestOfLife ㋡: alright
  76. [13:11:12] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Q) why didnt u mention the number one scumhunting tool in pmeta?
  77. [13:11:12] @ZestOfLife ㋡: A) cause I wanted to make this workshop more on how to articulate reads/analyze the game (since that's something going to help newer players more than relying on past games)
  78. [13:13:21] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Q) so like how do u push reads like u can find scum but how do u make ppl listen to u over townleaders
  79. [13:13:21] @ZestOfLife ㋡: A) I'll be frank, I don't like the concept of townleaders much since it makes others lazy, think mafia as a pure democracy than following some dude. I think the best way in that case though would be to try to nag the "leader" in taking ur stuff under consideration?
  80. [13:15:07] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Q) why not lurk for self preservation
  81. [13:15:08] @ZestOfLife ㋡: A) I mentioned lurking is bad in the workshop, and it doesn't help in preservation anyways, you might be untouched, but you'll ultimately get lynched for just doing nothing
  82. [13:16:40] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Q) How to deal with those "potato" town/player*
  83. [13:16:40] @ZestOfLife ㋡: A) Try to push them, try to get them engadged? If they truely aren't going to play then it's them not playing and you likely can't do anything about it
  84. [13:17:12] @ZestOfLife ㋡: and I think there's one last question
  85. [13:17:28] @ZestOfLife ㋡: Q) Does PKQ policy actually exist?
  86. [13:17:28] @ZestOfLife ㋡: A) No mate
  87. [13:19:44] @ZestOfLife ㋡: That's all the questions! Thanks for listning to me and giving your time - now we move onward to the fun part, playing mafia!
