- Below are a list of common questions and pursuits that still remain unanswered in the world of Nobella, and are often seen as goals Thaumaturges strive in finding answers for.
- ---
- 'What is Nothing?'
- Nothing is an aspect that is fundamentally proven to exist. It can be detected, sensed, and noticed much like any other form of essentia, but has yet to be harnessed or used. It is named such due to the aspect being able to be perceived, but unable to be interacted with; hence the term 'Nothing' referring to the fact that while something is there, it is almost as if there is nothing there at all.
- Historically, researching this subject is considered taboo and dangerous among most Thaumaturges due to all those seeking to find out the answer to this question either disappearing, or falling into madness.
- ------
- Raising the Dead
- To date, nobody has found out how to raise the dead; returning a human soul to full capacity with a fully functional body is seen as impossible, and all attempts to do so has left to catastrophic rebounds, often either crippling, or even killing, those involved in the attempts.
- ---
- Where do souls go?
- A common question; do souls go to an afterlife? Do they simply pitter off to nothingness? Souls inevitably disappear, where to is still unknown and often a common debate; mostly in part to religions believing in a specific afterlife. Thaumaturgical experts often come to the universal agreement that souls simply recycle themselves into nature, breaking down into essentia and aspects that are then re-used across Nobella, but this is more theory than truth.
- ---
- Removing the Flux
- Complete eradication and removal of the flux. This would allow Thaumaturges to happily continue their work without fear of rebounds of repercussions; though such a thing is often considered a pipe dream.
- Ironically enough, the flux can be manipulated to a slight degree, but even so, it's dangerous and unpredictable.
- ---
- Where do artifacts come from?
- Artifacts are known to come from either a very powerful mage, or are simply found out in the wild. This phenomena has spurred questions on to find out where and how these relics came to be; though such a question can only be answered by the rare few that are sapient enough to speak to humans.
- Such relics are not only exceedingly rare, but often lack the memory -- or will, to recall how they came into existence.
- ---
- What is the Veil? And what is beneath it?
- People generally know WHAT The veil is; a heavy sheet of thick clouds that cover the entire bottom section of the world. All isles hover above this. What lies beneath it is the real question; as nobody to this day has ever returned from a descent into the veil.
- ---
- Apotheosis
- Ascension into Godhood; a common goal shared among Kane and the original Apostles. It is the belief that Thaumaturgy can help evolve into a higher level of power.
- ---
- GOALS THAT ARE ACHIEVABLE
- These are also common goals, but are known to be possible through extensive study or pursuits.
- ---
- Immortality
- Not 'true immortality', but the ability to remove aging is a common goal amongst Thaumaturges; simply because removing age as a limiter means that they will be given unlimited amounts of time to continue furthering their research. Achieving immortality requires a lot of dedication; mana must consistently flow through the body to encourage longevity.
- There are also many known artifacts that cause immortality as a side effect; such as the case for Zeng's Archmagus.
