1.
Streets aren't the evidence of much regarding the size of a place, except if your only method of scaling needs the presence of streets.
2. Where exactly did I even talk about the size of Benin City or try to infer it from pictures of streets? The only comments I made regarding size focused on the Oba's palace and the "very large houses" described by Pinto, but I never made a comment regarding the size of the entire Benin City.
3.
For example, I would consider this streetless but still planned zambian town/village (Ba-ila) as being big :
4. You are speaking subjectively. "Big" in relation to WHAT? Villages in general? It doesn't look any bigger than most villages at the time(pre-1944) this picture was taken.
5.
6. Saying "it's big to me" isn't relevant. We need to know if it's big in relation to certain standards, and I would like to have numbers regarding the size of this Ila settlement.
7.
Regarding the material used, before the massive deforestation during the 20th c., the area used to be a rainforest. Clay architecture was a prerequisite if you wanted any type of pest control.
8. Well I didn't even say that there was a problem with Benin's architecture, but your claim seems dubious to me.
9.
10. Do you have sources proving that Edo people consciously used clay buildings for pest control?
11.
12. Do you have sources proving that the type of clay they used was Kaolinite?
13.
14. Do you have sources detailing the extent to which this (supposed) kaolinite was used for construction projects in Benin City?
15.
16. Reading the article you linked, it seems that kaolin spray was mostly used by specifically putting dust on the plants and garden, and rarely by making entire buildings in kaolinite. Your article also makes no reference to Benin City or anything near it.
