Anime Torrenting

Just in case you might happen to need any more information or want to go back over what we talked about.

Torrent Application:
    There are more modern applications but I currently use a specific version of utorrent.

    Select yes when it asks if you want to make it the default torrent application.
    You do not want to update this to a newer version, the company "sold out" so to speak and they are full of ads and crap.
    So to avoid that and get this properly configured, once you have it started click on the Options dropdown menu and select Preferences ( http://i.imgur.com/ftEw3T9.png )
    On the general page,
        Uncheck "Start utorrent on system startup"
        Uncheck "Check for updates automatically"

    Go to Connection,
        Make sure "Enable UPnP port mapping" is checked
        Make sure "Enable NAT-PMP port mapping" is checked
        Uncheck "Randomize port each start"
        Make sure "Add Windows Firewall Exception" is checked

    Bandwidth limiting,
        "Maximum upload rate" should be set to 15kbps or so.
            (If this is set to 0, you will not be preferred for downloads and they can become super slow)
        Don't bother with the alternate upload rate

    Bittorrent,
        Make sure the "Protocol Encryption" "Outgoing" dropdown is set to Enable
        Make sure "Allow incoming legacy connections" is enabled

    Now it should be ready to go!
    Bonus Features:
        If you select a currently downloading torrent, there is a "Files" tab at the bottom, you can select individual files in the torrent and give them different priority, so if you're downloading a torrent with multiple episodes you can place the beginning ones at a higher priority so they download faster.

Where to get anime torrents?

    In general, you can search by setting the category to "Anime - English Translated Anime" and the showall filter to "Trusted Only"
    This should get you the best listing 99% of the time.

    For results, generally you will see [HorribleSubs] a lot. Those are usually what you go with for what's currently airing. They rip subs from crunchyroll/funimation.
    If you see [Commie], go with them over HorribleSubs. They have higher quality and fix errors in the subtitles.

    If you see [480p], [720p], [1080p], that is the quality of the file, SD, HD, and fullHD.
    Usually you will want 720p, (1080p is usually upscaled).
    The only case where you want 1080p is when you are looking for movies or BDrips (bluray rips).

    In general:
        Blue (if available) > Green > White
        Choose 720p (if available), unless bluray/movie.
            - Unmarked quality means 720p or only quality available.

    Regarding Colors:
        Red = reencode for lower end hardware, usually .mp4's for old streaming devices and stuff.
        White = generic anything
        Green = trusted uploader, usually reserved for groups that do a lot of uploading
        Blue = (episodes from the best sub group if someone has decided there is a best sub group) you will only see this sometimes.

    Older Shows:
        When searching for older shows you may notice there are a lot more options, for example, here is a search for K-On http://i.imgur.com/HJQlLkA.jpg
        You'll notice there is a bunch of different subgroups here [------], in general, if they're green they are all good. (Figuring out the best groups and encodes is a discussion best left for a much more detailed guide.)
        Some are the episodes and make it obvious (S1, S2), and some are the movies.
        You may notice for the Chihiro ones it's kinda unsure, an easy way to check is to click on the title and expand the file list, then you would see it's all the episodes from S1
        BDRIP, BD, Bluray are all bluray rips.
        If you see Dual Audio, that means you can switch between english and japanese dubs.

    Bonus Bonus: You can set things up so that utorrent will automatically download new episodes for you. If you're interested let me know. (this gets a little complicated)

Video Player:
    If you haven't downloaded tv rips/anime before, you will probably need a more current video player.
