  1. Rebuild my old site to improve rankings? Is it legit or BS?
  2. So I'm getting an SEO audit off upwork, and this guy is suggesting that my eight year old site architecture is so jacked up, that it just needs to be rebuilt entirely. I admit that there are few pages that could be siloed, but I am not sure if this is really the problem.

  16. Dunno, depends what you plans are for the site, if you want G opinion you can use:
  17. Code:
  18. https://web.dev
  19. Imagine that you could do a tree with all your posts. The top point is your home, and each page that had a link from the home, was a branch hanging from the top. And a link to another page, from a branch, was another branch hanging brom that branch and so on
  20. If you had to analyze each post in your site, which could be the max deep in the tree from the top? I mean how many "hops" you had to do to arrive from your home to any page within?
  21.
  22. If you have more than 4 hops, then you need to silo a bit more. With a good architecture, technically you should be able to access any page within 4 clicks. And I mean a page with at least 1.000 pages. If you site has 100 pages, 2 clicks is better than 3.
  23.
  24. This is the only reason I find to SILO a site.
  25. The most classic scenario to do a SILO is a blog with 100 posts with 10 pages and main categories not linking from the home (or too few categories that also page 5 or 6 times).
  26. Generally it's easy to solve this: create more categories, attach posts to those categories, and link from home.
  27.
  28. Also SILO bet for content within the categories, to make the categories also worth a reading (and an indexing).
  29.
  30. With this information I think you could analyse your page and see what you need.

  34. This is just an e-commerce site that I have had for 8 years. This tool shows the site to be a little slow, but everything else to be totally in the green. I'm just trying to determine if this contractor is full of s*** or not.

  57. Click to expand...
  58. Each one of my pages is no more than three clicks away, most of them are two. There are some silos that I could have made, but the site is so old, and I just don't have a very deep architectural structure that I believe is worth it although I could be absolutely wrong. What do you think? Thank you so much for your reply!
  59. also, Silo would just mean restructuring the site, doing some 301 redirects, and not rebuilding the damn thing right? I think that this contractor that I'm talking to is full of caca
  60. Perfect!
  61. I wouldn't change a thing if that was my site especially when you try to optimize the site it doesn't make sense to rebuild to from scratch.
  62. This is just an e-commerce site that I have had for 8 years. This tool shows the site to be a little slow, but everything else to be totally in the green. I'm just trying to determine if this contractor is full of s*** or not.
  63. Silo would just mean restructuring the site, doing some 301 redirects
  64. No, silo concept just means creating a tree structure based on categories. You can do further optimizations in the site, like analysing traffic and merging some thin content pages or low traffic pages with 301 involved. But this is not the siloing process by itself.
  65. As I said, silo it's worth, when for example your categories as node, also are meant for content and traffic or your page have thousands of pages.
  66. 99% of the blogs which use, for example, wordpress categories, don't find any usefulness in the categories, just are there for the sake of it. With a SILO structure you go beyond, introducing content in the archive sites and making them unique
  67. most 'audits experts' will probably recommend u to install wordpress with seo yoast and using category as sillo. jfl. its good approach though

  75. I think I talk to you before about it, but I know I talk to you about something
  76. If you're rebuilding your site using overseas workers from UpWork, chances are you won't find the improvements you're looking for

  81. Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was thinking. I always like to run these things by the Geniuses here for double-checking. No, I really don't need a silo.

  83. Thank you for your feedback, I have all this in place.

  85. I've been on upwork for 10 years, when it used to be called another name and I have since forgot. although upwork can have some real dogs on it, I have found some outstanding contractors for very reasonable prices over the years. so it's a real hit or miss, but at least there is a customer feedback and protection system built in.
