  1. Any server provider that did not raise bill due to cpanel price hike ? Liquidweb switch
  2. With Liquidweb here for few years now, with cpanel price hike they are also raising my bill by $50. Totally unethical to be frank, passing down the cost of running business to their client. Looking for a host that has not increased their hosting costs or have decent pricing model and are reliable.

  14. Not sure if the terms of service agreements actually have this clause that allows to push the cost of running business down to their clients. But that's beside the point. Looking for a reliable host with some sort of management services available.
  15. When it costs more to provide a product, it costs more to provide a product. I'm curious what you would suggest a hosting provider would do.
  16. It’s true
  17. The answer to this is to drop cPanel . They are the ones who are forcing this

  21. Was this $50 increase for a single server and if so how many hosting accounts do you have on it?
  22. Providers are not going to eat the costs if they have to pay an extra $50 most would pass this along as well.
  23.
  24. It's a sad thing however if upset at anyone I would say focus that towards cpanel.
  25. Most providers here would be happy not to pass down those price increases however they would likely start you $50-100+ more if that's the case.
  26.
  27. We see increases with colocation yearly from data centers quite often you will find a 3-5% increase yearly. Just depends on how you negotiate everything.
  28. Your solution is to move to another control panel if you do not want to pay that $50
  29. It wasn't Liquid Web's decision to charge more for cPanel, they're being financially forced to due to the cPanel raising their licensing fees. It's a bit unfair if you think the hosting provider should take the loss on this and keep charging the same fee. If you find anyone who hasn't raised their cPanel pricing, you should share it here, I'm sure there are a lot of people who love to know.
  30. Who is using the cPanel license? Whose cost of doing business is it again?
  31.
  32. Providers are simply cPanel license resellers. You're the one buying. The license you want now costs more. That's not their fault or their cost of doing business. It's your business that's using it.
  33. The price all depends on how many active accounts you are having with cpanel. I'm afraid every provider has to increase cause they are punished with it just like all the others.
  34. Not sure what the 50 usd increase is based on, but I am sure they can answer you best

  46. I think it is a stretch to call LW unethical for raising their prices when they are just trying to cover the new cost of the cPanel software. With that said, I have no idea how many accounts you have and what your cPanel costs are to LW. If you only have 100 accounts or something then I can certainly understand you being upset considering that license only costs them sub-$30. Cpanel price increases is pretty much the industry norm right now. CPanel forced our hands when they changed their pricing structure.

  52.
  53. So i think OP also getting VPS or something and paying 12 Months contract so it may cost 50 USD extra yearly from the next month.
  54.
  55. I could be wrong.
  56.
  57. The price will raise for sure sooner or later and it is depending on the provider's contract with Cpanel.

  62. It's definitely not unethical to pass down the "cost of doing business" to a client. Usually, any business will pass down the cost. You might not like it but it isn't unethical by any stretch of the imagination.
  63.
  64. When cPanel increased their prices that inevitably caused the butterfly effect and everyone increased their prices. Honestly, it's probably a good thing - it will likely create a tiered division from the unrealistic 99 cent hosts and true providers. Not to say that anyone not running cPanel isn't a true provider.
  65.
  66. However, everyone here is right: if you want to avoid the cost changes your only option is to either (a) move to a host which has already factored in the appropriate percentage per a client in their pricing which may still be higher or (b) move off cPanel altogether.
  67. Its all dependent on how the deal of cpanel licenses with the hosting company. Probably giants may not increase price due to contract bulk licenses with hosting company. I see cpanel license resellers already raised the price.

  73. Well cpanel is going to loose business, will try the other panel that LW is offering, after all what does a control panel offer, ability to add things right, i am sure same any other panel can do as well, for looks and gui is it worth supporting cpanel that wants to make some profit. They are basically doing what in hosting industry is called as "holding hostage" . However, as a business though LW should be able to absorb such costs for clients who have been with them for few years now, a company that cannot absorb such costs for old clients and decides to pass down the full cost without any discount makes you wonder when will be the next price hike, just or unjust.
  74. Far from unethical and you cannot expect a host to "absorb" the costs of you going over the number of accounts cPanel suddenly allocated. This is industry wide and we have customers that increased over 200% in this change with zero reprieve from cPanel or the license resellers. All hosts attempted to mitigate the damage as much as they can, but you cannot expect them to go out of business to keep cPanel licenses at the old price.
  75. You can read about what cPanel provided ALL hosts in July, they gave us no real notice and no options at all. I have spent many nights over the last couple of months migrating people from cPanel to Directadmin. You can also search on here and see hosts that had massive price increases.

  85. cPanel price hike was so crazy that companies left with no choice but to increase the fee, Plesk is no better its been bought by the same financial company.

  95. Yes, but still! Some will choose to switch to virtual. But it result with a small lose of performance, in the scenario that you convert a dedicated server to an hypervisor, to go virtual. Otherwise, most of the time, virtual server with the same specs than a dedicated server will cost more ...
