Alexithymiaa: -Brad was sitting on the couch with his laptop in his lap trying to do some camera plots for the video he was shooting this weekend. He'd pretty much avoided holding Trick since Cadence dropped him off and every once in a while he glanced over at him wearily because he was still uncomfortable with such a small fragile baby.-
Covet: Kelsey was in the kitchen getting Trick's bottle warmed up for him, Connor was looking over Trick and making faces at him, the baby seemed mildly amused if not just quiet, giving the occasional coo and smile. "Dad are you and Mom going to have a baby when you get married?" He asked as if that had even been something discussed with them all. Kelsey dropped the bottle in the sink and it made a clatter, "What did you just ask your dad?"
Alexithymiaa: -Brad's eyes darted up from his computer to stare blankly at Connor, waiting just a little too long to answer him before beginning to stammer. "Uhh... well... you know..." He trailed off to collect his thoughts, coming up with something quick. "Babies are blessings that are given to you if you're lucky. You don't just get to pick one."-
Covet: "Maybe someday, we'll be that lucky, but that's not really something you need to worry about kiddo." Kelsey said as she brought the bottle in for Trick, and leaned down to get him out of the car seat so she could hold him while feeding him. // Connor climbed up on the couch then looked at Brad, "But then why do they have them all in those boxes behind the window and people point at them and then the nurse ladies bring the one they pointed to out. That's picking a baby, right?"
Alexithymiaa: "No little man... they're already yours by that point. The nurses are just helping take care of them in a special room." This was so not a conversation he intended to have with a five year old. He looked over at Kelsey for a little help, a clear pained expression on his face.-
Covet: "Yeah, you've already been picked by that point. If anything the baby chooses the Mom and Dad." Kelsey said more absentmindedly then looked over at Brad seeing his pained expression, and was amused by it. // "How does a baby choose, when they can't even talk?" Connor asked. "If a baby chooses you, the that would be my brother or sister, even though they don't have a bad dad guy like me?"
Alexithymiaa: "Well...." He started, fumbling over himself terrible. "It's like magic. That's why it's such a blessing and is special. It doesn't happen for everyone, but if a baby chooses us, it would be your brother or sister." He said with a nod, shifting uncomfortably on the couch and praying this didnt end with a birds and bees talk.-
Covet: "Why are you so full of questions tonight?" Kelsey asked wondering where all of this was coming from. // Connor looked at Kelsey then at Trick, "Because there's a baby here, and I was just wondering if I would have a baby brother or sister. I'd like a brother, but then we'd outnumber Momma and that's not fair to her."
Alexithymiaa: -Brad couldn't help, but give a stifled laugh at Connor's comment about outnumbering Kelsey, dipping his head down a little. "That's true... we would outnumber her and that's not fair. Besides, I think you would be a good brother for a little girl, don't you?"-
Covet: Kelsey shook her head listening to the boys talk. // Connor gave a shrug, "I guess if I have to, I would be. But I think I could be a better brother to a little brother. Teach him how to do all the fun boy things, and we could play cars and legos together with us Dad."
Alexithymiaa: "Girls can play cars and legos too, kid." He corrected him, glancing over at Kelsey before speaking again. "Besides, wouldnt it be more fun to get to teach a little sister new stuff? It's a challenge instead of something you already know."-
Covet: Kelsey was utterly amused at their conversation, smiling at Brad, before glancing back at Trick so that she could start to burp him when he finished his bottle. // "But girls like girl things, like... pink and dolls and make up and shoes. I don't know about that stuff, so I can't be helpful like I could with a baby brother." Connor rebutled
Alexithymiaa: "That's not true. Not all girls like that stuff, and not all boys don't like that stuff. It's learned behavior. Besides, you wear shoes, don't you? You know I have a big sister and she never liked pink. She always liked blue. You like blue, right?" He asked, trying to prove his point here about gender stigmas to aa fucking five year old.-
Covet: "I was more into Red then I was pink" Kelsey said as if she needed to defend herself. "But Dad's right. Girls can like the same things boys can. And if you were to get a little sister I'm sure you'd do wonderful as a big brother. BUT you don't need to worry about that right now, you won't have a little brother or sister for a long time still." // Connor frowned, "But I don't want to wait for a long time, Momma."
Alexithymiaa: "But it's not really up to you, little man." He said, not trying to be defensive, but jesus kid, calm down. "It will happen eventually, and by then you'll be ready to be the best big brother you can be. That's important because you need to look out for your little brother or sister."-
Covet: "Connor, I think it's time to go get ready for bed. You need to get your teeth brushed and Pj's on. Hurry up and I'll see if Dad will read you a story before you go to sleep." Kelsey said deflecting in the best known mom way she knew how.// Connor started in, "But, but... Momma.. Okay fine, but I still want a brother." He said pouting as he slid off the couch to go do the things he was told.
Alexithymiaa: -brad waited until Connor had walked away enough not to hear and then let out a deep exhale in relief, sliding further down to slump on the couch. "What's with him? I felt like I was being griddled by someone who's ass I've wiped. And that feels awful."-
Covet: Kelsey stopped and shook her head, "Well, thankfully for you I wiped that ass LONG before you had to. I'm not sure, maybe it's just with Trick being here?" Kelsey asked with a shrug.
Alexithymiaa: "Okay, but you acknowledge how weird that was right? Regardless of whos been wiping his ass?' Brad asked, seeking validation. "I really don't want to get into this with him. Not now."-
Covet: "Five year olds are tenacious. Good luck with that." Kelsey said as she tucked Trick back into the car seat. "Besides, you and I both know that he can want all he likes, but we've got a plan, sort of. Maybe a pet would help distract him?"
Alexithymiaa: "How are we supposed to manage a pet when we're barely around?" Brad said sharply because he did NOT have the time to remember to feed an animal.-
Covet: "Well I'm sure Holly would help him with something small, like a hamster? or a Turtle?" She suggested, "Nobody is asking you to take responsibility for it hun. But you are being asked to go tuck him in, so I can wait for Cadence to get here."
Alexithymiaa: "Do you know how long turtles live?" He asked, because he knew. He knew very well. "Like fifty years!" He shoved his laptop off his lap, dragging himself up to his feet. "What about a goldfish?" He asked as he started walking backwards toward the room.-
Covet: "Goldfish smell, and Turtles might live forever, but what do they do... nothing.. they eat and move slow. How hard is that to take care of?" Kelsey said over her shoulder as he got up. "We can talk more about this later, I love you."
Alexithymiaa: "They smell. And you have to clean their tank all the time. It's terrible. My cousin had a turtle and you know where that turtle is? Still living with my aunt and uncle. You know where my cousin is? With his own family. I'm telling you, it's a bad idea." He said with a look on his face, turning around to head to the bedroom. "Love you too!"-
