  1.
  2. You are Julius Caesar, the consul of Rome. You are fighting the Gauls north of
  3. the Roman Republic to conquer the barbarian tribes that threaten your great
  4. nation. You enter the military headquarters and see today's war briefing.
  5. "The
  6. Gauls have been attacking our borders for a few years now," you say. "They've
  7. grown stronger with each passing year".
  8. "We need to attack them before they grow
  9. too strong," says one of your officers
  10. > "I agree with you, Canus Caeparius. What is your plan on preventive strike?"
  11.
  12. "Preventive strike? We're going to take out their supply lines, cut off their
  13. food supplies, starve them into submission".
  14. > "I insist on preventive strike. We can wipe out them with a brute force right now."
  15.
  16.
  17. "But we don't know if they'll just regroup and fight again!"
  18. > "We will make sure they can't regroup."
  19.
  20.
  21. "What about the legions? How many do we have left?"
  22. > "We have six legions right now."
  23.
  24.
  25. "Six Legions?! That's not enough! I want ten legions! I want them all to be
  26. ready for battle at once!"
  27. > "Calm yourself, Canus Caeparius. We are going to fight barbarians, not noble Greek warriors. And Rome just can't spare us four more legions."
  28.
  29. "How do you know this? Surely you could find a way to get ten legions, or even
  30. twenty legions. The Romans always had an endless supply of manpower".
  31. > "I am your commander, Canus! If I say that we will crush the Gauls with ten legions, then we will crush the Gauls with ten legions."
  32.
  33.
  34. You leave the room and go back to your own tent where you spend the rest of
  35. the day thinking about what you should do next. The next morning you return to
  36. the meeting hall
  37. > "My subordinates! My brothers! Prepare legions right now. We are going to start our march to destroy the Gauls right now."
  38.
  39.
  40. The generals look at each other and nod. They prepare their troops and march
  41. out of the meeting hall.
  42. You lead your army out of the city and towards the
  43. Gauls
  44.
  45. > send a small amount of scouts to know how many Gauls we will encounter.
  46.
  47. You send a few scouts ahead to scout the terrain and the enemy's defenses. You
  48. also order some of your men to stay behind to guard the rear of the army.
  49. You
  50. arrive in a valley and see a large group of Gauls
  51. > check if they discovered your army now.
  52.
  53. You order your soldiers to attack immediately. Your first volley hits the
  54. Gauls, killing most of them instantly. Some of them try to run away but you
  55. easily kill them as well.
  56. You watch as the second volley hits the Gauls, killing
  57. them all
  58. > watch at the massacre of barbarians with pleasure.
  59.
  60. You enjoy watching the carnage of the barbarians. You feel like you've won a
  61. glorious victory over the barbarians. You continue to enjoy it until one of your
  62. officers comes up to you
  63. > listen to him.
  64.
  65. Your officer says
  66. >
  67. "Sir, we've killed almost all of the barbarians. There are still a few hiding
  68. around the hills, but we've wiped them out too. Our mission was successful".
  69.
  70.
  71. You say "Good, good, we need to keep pushing forward. We mustn't stop until
  72. we've destroyed the last of these savages!".
  73. Afterwards you return to your camp
  74. and celebrate your victory
  75. > continue your victorious march next day.
  76.
  77. You continue marching on the next day. Soon you reach a hill and see a huge
  78. horde of barbarians. They seem to be led by a giant who has a spear tipped with
  79. iron. He looks very angry.
  80. You order your men to fire upon him
  81. > watch as your professional soldiers release a burst of flaming arrows at him.
  82.
  83. You watch as your legions fire a barrage of arrows at the giant. It seems to
  84. work, as he falls dead from his wound. You watch as the remaining barbarians
  85. flee into the hills
  86. > order your cavalry to pursue them and kill them.
  87.
  88. You order your cavalry to follow the fleeing barbarians and kill them. They
  89. obey without question.
  90. You ride through the hills and forests after the fleeing
  91. barbarians. You soon catch up with them. You order your men to fire upon them.
  92. Many of the barbarians die instantly
  93. > capture the survivors.
  94.
  95. You order your men to capture the surviving barbarians alive. They comply
  96. without hesitation. You then order your legionnaires to torture the captured
  97. barbarians. You beat them, break their bones, stab them, burn them, and
  98. generally treat them cruelly
  99. > interrogate them about the whereabouts of the Gaul leader.
  100.
  101. You interrogate the captured barbarians and learn the location of the Gaul
  102. leader. You tell your men to hunt down and kill him. You enjoy torturing the
  103. prisoners. After a while you decide to end the torture. You order your men to
  104. throw the prisoners into a pit of boiling tar
  105. > wait until your men hunt down the treacherous Gaulish warboss.
  106.
  107. You wait until nightfall when your men come across the treacherous Gaul
  108. warboss. You order your men to shoot him in the head. He falls into the boiling
  109. tar pit of tar
  110. > celebrate the victory.
  111.
  112. You celebrate your victory by drinking heavily and indulging in sexual
  113. pleasures
  114. > send the messengers to set an ultimatum to the leaders of the Gaul tribes: they subdue to the Roman rule or they die.
  115.
  116. You send the messengers to the leaders of the Gaul tribes. You inform them that
  117. if they don't submit to the Roman rule within two days, they will suffer the
  118. same fate as the barbaric warlord.
  119. > wait for their response.
  120.
  121. You wait for the reply from the leaders of the Gaul tribes. You hear nothing
  122. from them. You wonder why. You realize that they probably didn't respond because
  123. they're too busy hunting down the fugitive warlord. You think about what you
  124. should do next
  125. > You call your officers for a meeting.
  126.
  127. You call your officers together and tell them that you have decided to make
  128. peace with the Gauls. You explain that the war is lost and that the only
  129. solution is to make peace. You give them a deadline of two days to meet your
  130. terms
  131. > "But they ignored my proposal! We need to punish them for such an insolence! But I think they dit it with intention. They are gathering united army of Gaulish clans to strike us back. What do you think?"
  132.
  133.
  134. You hear no answer from your officers. You ask again "What do you think?"
  135. You
  136. hear silence. You begin to panic. You think about what to do next.
  137. > "Do you fear these filthy barbarians, do you?"
