  1. The Moon
  2. Written by Thackery

  4. Everything was quiet. The wind had frozen and the animals of the forest had gone silent. It was as if the world had died, leaving only me. Suddenly the Moon was eclipsed. The light around it grew stronger and brighter. The colors danced across the spectrum. Eventually the colors faded and left only a slight translucent aura of what had been left. From the inky black center spread tentacles, wriggling appendages that reached out against the bright light of the eclipse. As more of the Being became silhouetted against the Moon it took on a magnificent aura that had enveloped the Moon. As the Being descended down upon the Earth its limbs stretched outward grasping for whatever surface they could. The many feelers that comprised it’s head writhed and contorted in the air around it, similar in nature to hair in water. The Being appeared to be oozing something aqueous in nature and a deep black in color. It’s chest cavity having been ripped away long ago leaving sharp shards of bone in its place. As the black tendrils whipped and wrapped around its head it rushed out a screech of a long-dead language, one that was so ancient it predated our own history. As it drew closer my mind was flooded with memories that were not my own and they burned deep into my mind. This Being, a creature from an ancient race forever gone from this world, which was sharing its knowledge of a primeval world, approached hesitant at first. It’s beautiful aura growing larger starting to slowly envelope and absorb me. And in a moment there was nothing but the colours. Then there was nothing but endless abyss The abyss was cold and there was nothing except the darkness. The Being had blinded me with the colours and used it to lure me in. The abyss was suffocating every breath was labored and burned the lungs as if you were drowning. It felt as if I was being crushed. The air was heavy with despair, the Being had promised paradise but had delivered Hell. Every moment I spent in the abyss was agony, it was cold and unforgiving. The icy breaths you’d draw in would burn and stick in your throat. There was nothing you could do to make your suffering end. The abyss wouldn’t let you suffocate but it wouldn’t let you breathe. It made sure you were awake for every bit of punishment it gave out. I could hear the clicking of the Being, every sound it made reverberated through my head. Then one day, I saw a light. It was distant and dim, but I moved my way towards it. The harder I looked at it, the brighter it got, and the warmth from the light increased. I spied out through the light and saw someone I didn’t know standing alone. Watching with amazement as the colors poured out of the moon and bathed the world in light. They stood frozen in time as I crawled my way through the portal that had formed. They didn’t understand what awaited them, the beauty of the abyss put them into a trance. It made them calm and staid, they didn’t fear me but wanted to understand me. The abyss is welcoming for those who fears it’s embrace.
