  1. Test server?
  2. I've a site that has been migrated twice by a well-known host here at WHT.
  3. The first migration broke some stuff but I was able to fix it.
  4. ++++++++++++++

  18. Then, 7 years later, they want to migrate again.
  19. I warned them that the first migration was bad and they better not screw up again.
  20. Guess what? The second migration went worse.
  21. My phpbb bulletin board doesn't retain a login anymore with external pages and my phpbb gallery is now wonky.
  22. I'm convinced the server is misconfigured but what do I know?
  23. The host is clueless...probably punks.
  24. I'm wondering if there's anyone out there that can test my site on their server.
  25. I had to change the cPanel settings to run php5.6 from the default php7 in the php manager.
  26.
  27. What say?
  28. Suggestons?
  29. Thanks

  32. It's unlikely you're going to find anybody to give you access to test anything without signing up. That said even though you ask for it - a provider reaching out to you directly to offer you services [free or not] is a violation of the rules here.
  33.
  34. What version of phpBB are you running? I haven't seen any sites running that in a long time.
  35.
  36. I'm running phpbb 3.0.x for several years.
  37. They have 4-5 updates a year and are up to 3.2.x
  38. I gave up updating since I have mods.
  39. Up the creek w/o a paddle

  41.
  42. If it was working on PHP 5.6 before I'd try to focus on the requirements of the software you're using to make sure you're meeting them. I've seen it be as simple as a php setting like 'register_globals'.
  43.
  44. I looked for register_globals...it's not even in the php info file.

  46.
  47. I found "This feature has been DEPRECATED as of PHP 5.3.0 and REMOVED as of PHP 5.4.0."
  48. With more success comes more expense!
  49.
  50. I wasn't trying to imply that was the problem - it was just an example of a setting that I had seen disabled by default in the past that caused issues.
  51.
  52. All it takes is one required setting or module missing to break a site. I'd suggest getting with phpBB support to ask them about this. Hopefully they aren't going to just tell you to update [they very well might].
  53.
  54. I use phpBB forums and am aware of the switch from mods to extensions. The day that happened was a bad day for many. It meant that anybody running 3.0 series was going to have to in essence start over if they wanted to update to 3.1 and now 3.2.
  55.
  56. phpBB mods are not in any way compatible with any phpBB version past 3.0.* phpBB support is not able to help with this, the only thing they are willing to do is help you upgrade the CORE files of your version 3.0 to CORE 3.2 Many forum owners have tried to convert their mods to extensions and so far there are no sucess stories posted.
  57.
  58. In order for you to get phpBB 3.0 working in 2019 on any server is going to take a lot of tweaking. You really should not be calling out your host because their 2019 servers will not support your extremely outdated software which requires outdated server software to run. phpBB 3.0 is so outdated that even the mods archives has been removed from the public view/download at the phpBB website.
  59.
  60. If you want to disable your mods and update to the current version then by all means ask at the phpBB forum, they will help. But only if you are willing to give up the mods.

  63. And this is what VPS is for. Setup the environment as you need and wish.
  64. This is a primary reason of why forums should never be run on shared hosting.
  65.
  66. Especially now in 2019, since phpBB has released information detailing a complete overhaul of their software sometime later this year. Look at their blog for details. There is no telling what changes will happen to their base ode. All i know is from personal experience, there is NO WAY i would run phpBB 3.2 on a shared hosting platform. Even a vanilla install eats up so many processes when logging in as an admin and going through the options. I cant imagine what it would be trying that while on shared.
  67.
  68. At bare minimum a medium sized reseller hosting platform is required in my opinion to run phpBB comfortably with maybe 100 members.
  69.
  70. I guess they're not punks after all...heh heh.
  71. I'm lucky my board still works by using the phpversion manager set to 5.6
  72. Maybe I can get them to install 5.3
  73. My gallery is another story.
  74. Thanks for the info....
