Sometimes

It isn’t about the pet names

It isn’t about being in control

Not about the marks left on your skin by my teeth and nails

It isn’t about the filthy things we call each other, when we are deepest in our passion

It isn’t about the naughty toys or the restraints

Not really about punishment or reward

It isn’t about the fantasies that we share through short texts or phone calls

Or about bringing those very same fantasies to life when we get home

It isn’t just about guiding each other to sweet release and emotional ecstasy

Not always

Sometimes

It is about the afterglow

It is your body against mine

It is about my hand on your thigh, as I hold on to you

It is the way I caress you after we stop moving

It is the notion of unconditional trust between you and me

And the intimate knowledge that we would do it all over again
