  1. Shame people out there will be happy to try to break that thought process.
  2.
  3. Let me provide provide a lot of commentary about the Advance Wars subreddit's darwinism, because thinking about it, that is their underlying problem. You're going to say "no kidding sherlock" to this but this is going to long. At the very least, I can provide a cautionary tale about the nonsense I'm going to talk about. And where better to start than the big red flag that has been hanging around for the longest time:

  7. I need to mention that on my part, I did not know Matthew Pyke, and my experiences have taught me that his girlfriend is far from a saint. This of course doesn't change EagleTheLightning's underlying actions: he traveled from his home country Germany to England, which would mean going abroad over water, in order to stab Pyke 86 times. You can see EagleTheLightning used his intelligence and capacity to commit homicide over a case of lust.
  8.
  9. The song is disgusting, naturally, as GipFace is clearly seeing fit to fully blame Pyke for this, claiming that Pyke should never have given his home address to somebody else over the internet and then serve to anger them. Even if Pyke was being an idiot and not exactly a saint, he isn't the one who spent money on an inevitable plane ride to murder somebody.
  10.
  11. Naturally, what gets under my skin about this is GipFace's attitude displayed in his second post, displaying his motivation for this garbage. GipFace did the mockery because his YouTube channel, which was about the Days of Ruin metagame, was getting linked by news articles involving the murder. This is a bad motive for something like the mockery, because you would expect somebody like GipFace to provide disclaimers that no, he doesn't play a murderous game, EagleTheLightning was simply heinous unto himself. In hindsight, now I'm wishing I knew what to say about Pyke's murder before--even if the effect still wouldn't have been worth a damn, extra anger from nothing useful happening would already have been irrelevant.

  13. But what really irks me is that railroad kid analogy. Basically, he remarks about how the railroad kid should simply be called an idiot for what happened to him. This is absolutely shallow negativity at its finest. Some negativity works in the interest of being objective. This is simply too much. Anybody can claim I don't know what that is like, but they wouldn't be more wrong:

  17. As I say there, that spazz client I ranted about is enough of an idiot and the workplace happens to be near enough a country street. And just to clarify, I have trouble understanding why like him. I'm certainly sure the other people at the workplace can explain a lot better, because they do like him. That's the underlying point with both the spazz client and the railroad kid: you don't dismiss people simply because of darwinism or some such, not if there turns out to be ultimately valid reason for others to like them. It's reasons like that, BTW, why Savvy Guy Energetic Girl is a good trope, because it underscores the strengths of both parties, and wading through the weaknesses makes that much all the clearer. Not that people out there are ever interested in understanding that sort of stuff in the midst of things like [saying money trumps skill](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moikBG0j7Gc).

  19. GipFace is ultimately a subscriber to his own flagrant darwinism, and he doesn't care who gets hurt in order to sate it, which he does by being generally toxic as I rage about in a long comment here that I have pinned:

  23. And yes, I actually did beat the ever infamous Rivals AC in Advance Wars 1. Now anybody want to tell me to "git gud"? Well, guess who else would do that? The Advance Wars subreddit's community. Users like XenesisXenon are happy to claim that these levels are good design, and indeed a well known AW2 hack has Kanbei's Error AC and Rivals AC as part of it. Both of those levels just plain have objective problems transcending the Fog of War that the hack at least has the sense to remove from its versions of those maps. These levels MIGHT try to work for story reasons. They DON'T work for gameplay reasons. Gameplay reasons would not punish you for knowingly avoiding the obvious solution of going inland on Olaf's Navy with having to juggle The Final Battle, [already a mess in its own right even on NC](https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAAYUKlQKkEykw), with a very potential case of Stop Helping Me courtesy of Olaf's CO Power.
  24.
  25. You can see that the Advance Wars subreddit, in their indifference to this, are just as darwinistic and just as uncompromising. I don't know how people like Wargroove's developers think I'm the toxic one, but apparently they do, even though I could actually point to problems like how Wargroove couldn't rely on its very basic gameplay to have as many affordances for permitting skill to prevent casualties in a maintained offense any more than Advance Wars could. For the record, Battalion Wars gets by by involving real time movement, and it's telling about how well its mechanics click when its worst level in both games, for all that it deserves plenty of flak, [proves beatable enough with no pausing, no casualties, and a Perfect S-Rank](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asS-x4TA9Oc) as well as ending up pleasantly surprising me with good gameplay when I have BW overplayed. Somehow, Battalion Wars is the cash-in and Wargroove isn't showing signs of being that.
  26.
  27. Either way, the general darwinism plaguing the Advance Wars subreddit is the ONLY reason GipFace not being short-leashed after all the nonsense he has pulled that I complained about could be unsurprising, because by their standards, he would be too important by being "2gud4ulol." This falls flat on its face when you realize that even if the quote marks there are unnecessary, it doesn't change his toxicity in the least. I don't need to argue that any skill at a given something would fail to make somebody important, because there's one underlying concept to consider: **being a role model.**
  28.
  29. I put that in bold to emphasize that these people with the power should not get so drunk on it. You can argue that the Right Makes Might trope is no less a myth than Santa Claus with the same purposes for why it exists, please ignore that my dad had taught me to view Santa Claus as something worth believe in on the inside. You can claim that the saying "with great power comes great responsibility" is proven worthless when sociopaths are the ones running around with power. But there's still one thing to ask yourself when you have enough talent: what happens when basically climbing Mt. Everest, even in relative terms, is second nature to you? What do you do with that talent?
  30.
  31. I have come up with the answer of using my resulting skill in game balance to help improve game design, as well as show viewers that they absolutely do not need to be heartless to be adept. I'm wishing I could have better success with this, but too often people are hostile for its own sake or just plain indifferent so I end up dealing with already deaf ears. I daresay what I do is still better than people out there who don't even want to try to understand this.
  32.
  33. I'm not trying to brag, of course, nor am I claiming to be non-hypocritical in this regard. All the same, there is valid reason I do point out that levels as awful as Kanbei's Error AC in AW1, Crystal Calamity in Dual Strike, Battle Before Dawn HHM in FE7, Bonus Mission 3 in BW1, levels like those are bad metrics, because they absolutely are, and pointing out that much means other players can possibly realize there's somebody to turn to. It's the sort of thing that MarioMastar, whoisthisgit, and [Minoru Leonardo](https://www.youtube.com/user/EinherjarLeo) understand. It's definitely better than the resorting to the sort of Unsportsmanlike Gloating that the likes of the Advance Wars subreddit will be all too happy to pull when they can, even when it clearly keeps crossing the line.
  34.
  35. The short of it is, people out there are simply arbitrary. It's a mercy not everybody is, and those who aren't should be given support.
  36.
  37. (And I'm going to post this on pastebin. ....PHEW!)
