  3. -------
  4. >Bonworth reacting to Mike being human
  5. >Bonworth thinks off the old cartoons and toys of human technology
  6. >Many have cyber arm cannons or rocket legs
  7. >Mike might be able to let him walk again
  8. >If he just get in contact with his old world
  9. >But at his very core he knows it's nothing more than fantasies
  10. >But why does it well so hard in his chest
  11. >I Mike could he would
  12. >That truth cracks any illusion
  13. >He can't come to terms with it
  14. >Just the chance is more than enough
  15. >No matter how absurd
  16. >He is already friends with a human
  17. >Where does the line end?
  18. -
  19. >The others begin to recognize the anxiety and fear that Bonworth fails to hide
  20. >From his fidgeting hands, to spoken sentences cut short before Mike could know what he wanted to say
  21. >The others trust Mike well enough to know that whatever is happening to Bonworth wasn't his fault
  22. >But he grows more worried with every broken interaction, every aborted question, and soon, because Mike just doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut, he confronts Bonworth about it once he gets him alone
  23. >The rabbit tries to deflect, retreat, answer the human with another question, but Mike is too stubborn to be thrown off like that
  24. >The rabbit shudders and closes his eyes, imagining the legs that are no longer there, trying to recall the sense of sand between his toes, the pressure of running in his calves. He reopens his eyes and stares at the man who should not and could not exist, sniffling, afraid of feeling hope.
  25. >"Bonworth, please tell me. Have I done something to hurt you?" Mike asks, his voice filled with immense guilt and sadness at the thought of having given his friend an unfair sense of pain, even if he doesn't understand how or why
  26. >"What!? Gosh, no! Of course not, Mike. You've been nothing but swell to me this whole time." The rabbit quickly reassures.
  27. >"Are you sure? Cuz you've been looking at me like you wanna say something but can't, or won't. And I don't want to accuse you of anything, because I'm not mad, just worried, but I feel like you've been... afraid of me? I don't want you to feel that way about me. If I did anything to-
  28.
  29. >Now it's Bonworth's turn to feel guilty. "Oh, no no no, Mike! I'm so sorry. I wasn't mad or upset with you, I promise. You've done nothing wrong, I swear."
  30. >"You're positive?"
  31. >"Absolutely, one hundred percent."
  32. >"Then what is wrong?" Mike asks, concerned.
  33. >"I..." The rabbit trails off.
  34. -
  35. >Mike reaches out, afraid that the rabbit will flinch. Mercifully, Bonworth allows him to rest his hand on his shoulder, not relaxed, but resigned to it. The human deems it better than if he were to flinch or step away.
  36. >He gives Bonworth a reassuring squeeze, "You can tell me anything, man. If there's a problem, we'll work through it. If you need something from me, I'll do everything in my power to help you out. You don't have to face this whole thing alone."
  37. >The rabbit chokes, feeling himself sinking into a sea of guilt. "Aw, geez Mike. I know. You're always willin' to help. I just... I don't know if this is even... possible."
  38. >"Well, I mean, I won't know either unless you tell me."
  39. >There's a pregnant pause between the two of them. It highlights how private this conversation has been thus far, reassuring Bonworth. No one is around to hear what would be said if he says it and Mike responds.
  40. >"Gee willikers, Mike. It's gonna sound awful silly. I feel embarrassed having even thought of it."
  41. >"Hey, no need to be embarrassed. Especially around me. Whatever it is, we both know I've said way worse," he smiles.
  42. >"Hey, no, you're fine, Mike. Really. It was a spur of the moment thing. What I'm thinking is..."
  43. >"It couldn't be that bad. Could it?"
  44. >The rabbit breathes in and sighs.
  45. >He may as well, now that Mike is confronting him on the matter.
  46.
  47. >Except, he can't quite spit it out, framing it like a hypothetical.
  48.
  49. >"If you... could give, I mean... If you could, or needed to get new legs... and you knew how to..." the more he speaks the more foolish he feels. Still, there's no turning back now.
  50.
  51. >"If it were possible to get new robot legs, you'd tell me, right?"
  52. >"Uh. I'm... sorry?"
