- >work the night shift as a museum security guard
- >nothing too major, most people don't seem to care about art that much these days so its slow and boring
- >we had a new arrival today, a simple little marble statue named Eve
- >she was placed with the other marble statues, next to a window so the light could catch her form better
- >for some reason though, as I did my rounds, my eyes kept going back to her, in spite of me seeing statues and art like this all the time
- >at first, I brushed it off as nothing but nerves; but each time my curiosity grew and I couldn't help but stare
- >shook my head and left for another room, only this time hearing a faint girly giggle
- >I froze; looked back into the room and saw nothing but the usual
- >I shrugged, and went back on my rounds until I heard yet another giggle, this time a bit louder
- >I called out to the sound, drawing my flashlight as I entered the statue room
- >again my vision gravitated to Eve and…she looked different
- >like her pose was different from how she was when I last left
- >I walked up to her, eyeing her up and down as no movement, no sounds came from her
- >I shook my head, cursing myself out-loud for honestly thinking a statue could come to life
- >as soon as I turned around to leave the room, a low rumble of rock sounded off behind me, and a cold hand laid on my shoulder
- >my heart skipped a few beats as I slowly turned to face Eve, her face downcast and melancholy
- >I was scared stiff, my face agape in fear and disbelief
- >she gingerly stepped off of her pedestal, the floor creaking slightly as she came closer and kissed me
- >I shrank back, her touch leaving me as I tried to calm down
- >"W-what the hell was that for? What the fuck is going on?"
- >Eve gave a weak smile as she tried to make eye contact and failing, her eyes trailing around the room as she spoke
- >"I…get lonely sometimes. So many happy people come through here…and I stay here, quiet…cold…unloved…"
- >I relaxed a little, lowering my flashlight as I listened
- >She walked towards me, reaching for my hand and pressing it up to her face
- >"I…just want someone to hold me, just for a little while…before I have to go back to sleep…"
- >I felt around the near perfect smoothness of her face, brushing her clay-like hair to the side as I pulled her in close for a hug
- >She was cool to the touch, but I could feel a warm flicker within her, like a soul being kindled
- >She buried her face into my chest, her arms wrapped around my back as she became warmer and warmer
- >Tears began to flow down her face as she looked up at me, her smile beaming in the moonlight
- >"Thank you…"
