  72. Bio:
  73. Markus Bridger was once a very ordinary person, born to an Angerbortian military officer and a perennial housewife, he was brought up in a caring household, and was expected to put that big brain of his to good use by following in his father's footsteps, and making a career out of serving in the army.
  74.
  75. Unfortunately enough for Markus, the job had...changed since his father's time, while the Emperor was concerned with the welfare of his people and their security, the First Consort seemed to only care about the power he had over the people. Markus remained in his service initially out of a sense of loyalty, yes he was drawing up plans for ruthlessly crushing a peasant uprising instead of arraying a vast army to do glorious battle in defense of home land, but this was... fine It was still 'For the Good of the Country' after all. But as the years went by, and the scale of the atrocities they tasked him with 'facilitating' grew, he started to feel...afraid, of his own country, and what it would do to him and his family if he ever stopped.
  76.
  77. It was this line of thought that led Markus to lend aid to the Burning Sword, a small rebellion led by a noblewoman named Lynette. Having started as a mere dispute over inheritance rights, the rebellion had all but snowballed to an all out assault on the local keep in but a few weeks time, and Mark's knowledge of it's defenses (having defended it prior) led to it's swift capture.
  78.
  79. But their victory did not last for long, the group proved to be quite capable of taking a keep yes, but the hot headed and eager rebels made for....poor defenders. The haste with which they charged into the fray in search of another victory, causing them to be ruthlessly crushed by a tactic he recognized as his own, drawn up to deal with 'inexperienced rebels defending a fortified position' in what now felt like a lifetime ago.
  80.
  81.
  82. He didn't stick around for too long afterwards, deciding to quickly sound a general retreat and escape to the nearby woods, he considered waiting for any survivors when he made it to the designated area, to see if there was still something, anything he could do to fix this, to make it all right, to bring his nation back on the right path. He kept running, until he didn't know where he was, and didn't know if he could go on anymore.
  83.
  84. He never did find out what happened to the rest, he didn't really care, drink was his only companion, and he spent the better half of next two decades trying not to wallow in his own misery, working a series of odd jobs and occasional embarking on mercenary work for petty coin, he tried his best to forget about his failures, and to stay too drunk to think about the current regime and its sins.
  85.
  86. Quite frankly he's not really sure himself about why he's here, but well...mercenary work's hard to find for a 40 something year old blatherer who can't even swing a sword, he was in the area and heard about the rightful heir, he was perfectly sober for a week, and well..here we are. Sure, maybe this is all foolish and pointless, but his mind sharper now than its been in years! And well, at least he can teach them to learn from his mistakes, if nothing else.
