- ...So wait I'm confused.
- Weren't you just sticking around aperture in the hopes of me coming back?
- Why are you still there?
- You don't get along with anyone there and they don't like the way you roleplay.
- tbh you'd be better off just hanging out in stardust.
- GrapebearToday at 12:10 AM
- maybe it's just some part of me that's sentimental and finds it hard to let go, aperture was the place i roleplayed for years and tbh i don't like the way they roleplay either
- wall to wall plots and no room for in between outside of personal stuff.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:12 AM
- that's because casual rp is usually boring
- you don't have to participate in the plots
- GrapebearToday at 12:13 AM
- wall to wall important plots are boring and unessecary in my eyes, every good story has times when it's winding down and just has the characters exploring a city or socializing among their peers.
- The way i see it, Aperture is basically the Dragon Ball Z of RP memos.
- yeah, important plots are great and they can be great fun, as can plots.
- but having them wall to wall is just overkill.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:14 AM
- downtime is unnecessary because noone is expected to nor should participate in every plot that's ongoing at a time
- GrapebearToday at 12:14 AM
- that's not what I mean chris.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:14 AM
- meaning anyone can have down time at a given time
- if you expect other people to have down time when they do not want to that's on you
- GrapebearToday at 12:16 AM
- realistically, how the fuck has no one moved out of the underground city when there's a war every other week, when there's huge battles with eldritch abominations from beyond the veil of reality? A good story isn't just a bunch of plots, it's the surrounding areas and the consequences of those plots.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:16 AM
- realism has no place in rp
- GrapebearToday at 12:16 AM
- and I feel like aperture although it exceeds in the former department, lacks in the latter department.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:16 AM
- also there are plenty of consequences
- and many people have moved out of that underground area. the surface just sucks mostly.
- anyway. shrug
- plot is generally what makes a good story
- that's literally the storytelling element
- GrapebearToday at 12:18 AM
- yeah but when your memo is essentially dragon ball z where every other week there's a new more powerful villain to take on, it kind of gets boring and unnecessary.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:18 AM
- the power scaling varies wildly
- GrapebearToday at 12:18 AM
- the most i can say to finish this is that i look for different things in my RP than you or others look for.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:18 AM
- downtime is boring, zach
- that's how rp groups die
- nothing happening
- the entire point of that rp group is anyone can run events
- from the admins to the randoms
- GrapebearToday at 12:20 AM
- Yes, I like epic stories where heroes clash against villains for the fate of the world, but to me a good story and a good RP does include Downtime in between these battles, it's not realistic or fun for there to be one villain after another to the point where i've been told in the past to forego a plot i was doing because they were already dealing with another villain.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:20 AM
- the assumption being that if you can get people interested enough to participate then you don't suck at writing
- GrapebearToday at 12:20 AM
- ...
- yeah we're done with this conversation dude.
- goodbye.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:20 AM
- no clue why that popped out after your post
- GrapebearToday at 12:21 AM
- you know what i'm not gonna do that because the fucking notifications in stardust will annoy the hell out of me.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:21 AM
- I posted that before you did, for the record.
- though I suppose you answered your own question.
- anyway the setting as a whole doesn't revolve around any given plot that's ongoing because multiple can exist at once.
- it's not really a linear story so much as a big setting that contains multiple stories ongoing in it simultaneously
- so from the viewpoint from any one character there is downtime in between fights
- there just happens to be something badass going on on the other end of the setting
- but that is irrelevant to this character over here
- rp groups die when nothing is happening for a while.
- this is why aperture has survived so long.
- anyway if you don't like it and you don't like the people there you should probably either stop hanging out there or at least stop roasting an rp group you insist on keep coming back to even though you claim not to like it
- You know?
- GrapebearToday at 12:27 AM
- counterpoint: What i do with my time is none of your business, I recognize your concerns and points but I'll continue to do as I wish.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:28 AM
- Of course you will.
- That said I'm also not defending you there anymore.
- But do as you will.
- randomoddguyToday at 12:29 AM
- In the end all I can do is give you advice
