- By that point, back on Kamiko Island, Godzilla had managed to claw
- more than halfway out of the avalanche. His top half was sticking out of the
- ice and snow, and he let out a continuous series of howls.
- Ikeda and the other members of the Self-Defense Forces had made
- landfall with the amphibious landers, and one after another, they were
- busily carrying out the drums of gasoline. They hurriedly stacked them one
- by one in a row. The plan was to try to block Godzilla’s path to the sea with
- a wall of fire.
- Godzilla continued to try to knock down the wall of ice holding him in.
- By this point, much of his body was visible. With each passing moment,
- things were becoming more dangerous for the workers stacking the gasoline
- drums.
- “Hey, hurry up! Who knows how long it’ll be before Godzilla gets free
- and pounces on us!”
- All the men were working frantically. Ikeda looked up into the air and
- whispered, “Man, I wish the squadron would get here fast . . .”
- Right then, there was a tremendous noise of something falling. Godzilla
- had broken free of the wall of ice, and it came tumbling down below him.
- He lifted his colossal body high into the air.
- “Watch out! All men aboard!!” No sooner did the men hear the order
- than they all rushed toward the amphibious landers.
- It took only a fraction of a second for Godzilla to step over what was left
- of the wall created by the avalanche, and he squashed one of the soldiers
- underfoot. As if proud of himself, Godzilla made a loud GRAAAAAWR!
