Worlds existed within Celestial Foundations, and these Foundations existed within the “sea.” The sea was enormous, containing countless such Foundations, but it was easy to imagine that even more worlds existed on the outside. There were worlds outside of it, even more that existed outside of them, and even those were contained in exterior​ entities. Even worlds with different fundamental laws were intertwined in a complex, nested structure. That was the way the entire world seemed to be. “Apparently,” because it was impossible to observe the entire thing.

That said, there were some who treated this as all that existed, since it comprised the entirety of the territory perceptible to the most intelligent life forms on these worlds. For convenience, the term “Ultimate Ensemble World” referred to this collection of worlds.

世界 は 天 盤 の 中 に あり、 天 盤 は〝 海〟 の 中 に ある。 〝海〟 は 広大 で、 そこ には 無数 の 天 盤 が 存在 し て いる が、 さらに 外側 の 世界 が ある こと は 想像 に 難く ない。 　 世界 の 外 には、 さらに 外 が あり、 それら を 含む 外 も 存在 する。 基本 的 な 法則 すら 異なる 世界 が 複雑 に 絡み合う 入れ子 構造。 そんな もの が 世界 全体 で ある らしい。 　 らしい と いう のは、 全て を 確認 できる わけ も ない から だ。 　 とは いえ、 これ が 全て だ とさ れ て いる もの が ある。 これら の 世界 に 存在 する 最上位 の 知的生命 体 の 認識 の 及ぶ 限り の 範囲。 便宜上、 究極 集合 世界 と 呼ば れ て いる のが それ だ。
