- WELCOME MY FRIENDS. Let’s get a few basic facts straight before you read below.
- 1: Chances are, you’ll die! ‘Cause people die when they’re killed.
- 2: 80% of this role-play is fanfiction(Fate series). The other 20% Is me changing and adapting plot for the sake of a more entertaining role-play.
- 3: YOU BETTER NOT BE AFRAID OF READING, NUGGET.
- Your character is one of the few (When compared to the human population, at least), Magi that walk the earth. Whether you’ve trained or not doesn’t matter, for the Grail Wars are just about to begin -- something just about every Magi -- and even some commonfolk, know of. Today is the day that you gain your servant. The servant acts as not only a protector, but a tool to help you win these grail wars. As the Master, you must also do your best to care for your servant.
- Name:
- Age:
- Ethnicity:
- Background: Background on your character being a Magus for the most part; and their family line, if applicable. If your character has known of the Grail wars for a while, they probably know of the summoning ritual listed below.
- Magical schools of study: Schools of study are very very hard to find, and the knowledge and techniques are generally kept within long running family lines of Magi.
- FACTS/TERMINOLOGY:
- Because these are super super basics! You need to know these things….unless your character background wouldn’t know for whatever reason.
- Master: Only a select few masters are chosen to compete in the Grail War. All masters are magi, whether they know it or not. Stereotypically, it is always the stronger magus that devotes themselves to preparing for the war that gets the stronger servant -- this isn’t always true though. It is the Master’s duty to sustain their servant; as they keep their patron heroic spirit present by feeding their mana reserves.
- Summoning a Heroic Spirit: While The Holy Grail usually 'chooses' its candidates, most, if not all Magi properly prepare for the war by using a specific ritual to summon a heroic spirit directly. This not only increases the chances of entering the Grail War, but also getting the servant they want. The ritual to summoning a heroic spirit is surprisingly easy, requiring a unique catalyst and arcane circle. A catalyst can be anything, for example, it could be a relic; such as a piece of wood from the round table, which would possibly summon King Arthur or one of his knights. It can even be the shedded skin of a snake, whichever the case, using this ritual (ALMOST) ensures getting the heroic spirit you want.
- Command Seals: Right after the Grail selects the candidates, the Master receives what allows theme absolute control over their servant; Command Seals. A Command Seal appears on the body of the Master as a red tattoo. The seals can be used for several things: When a command seal is used, the Servant is forced to obey the master, as long as it is within the scope of reality. If the Servant is fatally wounded, an order such as 'Heal' will result in the wound being temporarily sewn shut for a period of time, stopping the bleeding. It doesn't provide any medical treatment, however.
- Heroic Spirits/Servants: Almost immediately after the Master discovers his/her command seals appearing, their servant will promptly arrive, either through sheer luck or, more commonly, after an accepted summoning ritual. A Heroic Spirit is an important figure from history or mythology; through the Grail War, the servant is to obey the master, as they are anchored to the world through a magical contract. If their master were to die, the contract would be broken; which causes the Heroic Spirit to fade from reality. Fortunately for the Heroic Spirit, it is possible to create a new contract with a new master before their time runs out. All Heroic Spirits have their own unique weakness and set abilities based on their past; as a result, it is widely accepted as wise to keep the name of the servant unknown. A Heroic Spirit can be one of 7 classes:
- --Saber: Servant's placed here are often considered the most balanced, versatile, and sometimes, 'best' overall, with adequate ratings in all parameters. As the name implies, Sabers almost exclusively use swords.
- --Lancer: A Lancer class is incredibly agile and utilizes long-ranged melee weapons; such as spears or polearms. Due to their range and agility, they're good at both pursuing their foes and hit and run tactics.
- --Archer: Servant's placed in this class are proficient at projectiles and survival -- with or without their master. Unfortunately, this makes stronger Archers difficult to control sometimes, as they can reach near-total independence from their masters.
- --Rider: Riders place emphasis upon both speed and powerful Noble Phantasms, which will often always include a mount. They are capable of riding anything without difficulty; be it a horse or actual moving car.
- --Caster: The Caster is adept at magecraft and arcane arts; as they utilize spells and ranged abilities that keep their otherwise weak body safe. As a rule of thumb, all Casters have the ability to alter or create space around them to enhance their sorcery.
- --Assassin: All Assassins are have the unique ability of concealment, allowing them to remain undetected. Though they’re exceptional at quick and silent kills, Assassins aren't too great at drawn out combat and are even considered somewhat lousy when it comes to martial prowess. As a result, Assassins often target Masters instead.
- --Berserker: Servant's placed here are always heroes who have gone berserk or grew enraged at least once in their lifetime. As a Heroic Spirit, these servants have the ability to trade their consciousness (or sanity) for a large power boost. The Berserker is a very unstable servant due to this, as once the trade is done, they often have trouble differing ally from enemy.
- Noble Phantasm: Noble Phantasms, or 'crystallized mysteries,' are weapons or abilities owned by Heroic Spirits. They can come in many forms; such as general weapons like abilities, curses, and changes to the environment or its physical properties. A Noble Phantasm is considered to be the Servant's 'trump card', and lie dormant until activated by releasing their true names. This can only be done by their true owners.
- The Holy Grail: A very powerful magical item. The Holy Grail is an artifact that, upon being claimed, grants one wish to whoever touches it. This wish can be anything -- and on top of that, Masters aren’t the only ones who can claim it. The Holy Grail doesn’t manifest until a few days after the Heroic Spirits manifest.
