  2. It is all good! So, first thing's first.
  3. What is your ckey?
  4. Mneme — Today at 9:26 PM
  5. Mneme
  6. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:27 PM
  7. Alright. And your discoword tag?
  8. Mneme — Today at 9:27 PM
  9. Mneme#6593
  10. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:27 PM
  11. The interview is going to be split in to two parts.
  12. The first one is going to be some scenarios, where I'll play the bwoink-ee, and you'll play the bwoink-er. The second part is going to be some questions regarding your opinions on things. Sound good?
  13. Mneme — Today at 9:27 PM
  14. Yup. Works for me.
  15. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:27 PM
  16. Awesome. I sent you the moderator perms earlier, but I will send them again.
  17. As a moderator, here are the following perms you have:
  18.
  19. - Access to msay. It allows you to speak with other staff members.
  20. - Access to dsay. Self-explanatory, you see the deadchat and can even speak in it.
  21. - Access to in game logs about a lot of things. This include LOOC, dchat, admin actions(like kick, ban, note, warn) and some things to prevent grief. Imagine Urist McUrist open a phoron tank you'll have a message stating it. Same for a fuel tank or a valve of any kind.
  22. - Access the variables of the objects on the server. While you cannot edit them, you can view attack logs on a player, who touched what the last, etc.
  23. - The ability to adminghost, basically will consider you as if you ghosted from the lobby or died. You can aghost again to re-enter your body.
  24. - The ability to Wind people. It freeze them and keep them from interacting with the game.
  25. - The possibility to AdminPM someone, and check all the tickets that have been made on the server.
  26. - The ability to kick, note, warn, ban. More in-depth about this:
  27. Kick = Just boot someone off the server. You can set a custom message. It's not really used often, but still useful to get someone's attention.
  28. Note = It's basically our notepad about players. It's useful for the other staff that will interact with the player, to know their behaviour and if something already happened before.
  29. Warning = Depending the severity of something, it can be directly a warning. This one is visible to the player, and they need to acknowledge it to play on the server again.
  30. Ban = Same thing as kick expect on a larger scale, or even permanently. A ban is often an escalation of warnings.
  31. Every action taken by a staff member is visible on the player's ckey. Only kicks are not shown.
  32. If you have any questions you can ask me now, or later.
  33. Mneme — Today at 9:28 PM
  34. Right. Thank you.
  35. I don't believe I have any questions about the perms right now.
  36. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:29 PM
  37. Cool! SO, let's start with you're playing in a round when you see "AAAAAAAAAAAAAA", roboticist, join from cryo,.
  38. Mneme — Today at 9:29 PM
  39. An interesting name.
  40. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:30 PM
  41. Yep. What do you do?
  42. Mneme — Today at 9:31 PM
  43. I'd first send them an AdminPM. Saying something along the lines of "Hello, do you have a minute? or "Hey, do you have a minute for a quick chat?"
  44. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:31 PM
  45. Which one?
  46. Mneme — Today at 9:32 PM
  47. I'll go with the more formal tone, just because I haven't built a rapport with the player yet, if this is an honest mistake, and don't want to give them the impression that I'm trying to be condescending. So I'd say "Hello, do you have a minute?"
  48. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:33 PM
  49. They respond and say "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA:
  50. Mneme — Today at 9:36 PM
  51. A lovely response. I like to give people second chances and I assume they don't know the rules so I'll go the diplomatic route and PM them again, informing them that Aurora is a HeavyRP server, and that we have rules on naming. Assuming their character is a human I'd let them know that they'll need a first name, and last name, and I'm willing to help them navigate the basics of our server should they need help.
  52. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:37 PM
  53. They are indeed a human. And they respond with "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (f*ck yourself) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
  54. Mneme — Today at 9:39 PM
  55. Gotcha. At that point it's clear to me that they aren't here to play the server, or follow the rules, so I'll be escalating it up to a permanent ban. Placing the ban message something along the lines of "Improper character name, failed to reply to and was disrespectful in adminPMs, generally not here to RP. You can appeal this ban on the forums."
  56. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:42 PM
  57. Sounds good.
  58. Next, you're in a round where someone ahelps they the roboticist is making mechs all round, and outfitting them with heavy arms. They're trying to sell them to the crew for ten credits.
  59. Mneme — Today at 9:44 PM
  60. Right. I'll start off by sending them an an adminPM, saying "Hello, do you have a minute?"
  61. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:45 PM
  62. The roboticist?
  63. Mneme — Today at 9:45 PM
  64. Yup. To the roboticist
  65. Once I do send that initial AdminPM to the roboticist, I'll double back to the individual who submitted the ahelp and say "I'll look into it."
  66. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:47 PM
  67. Sounds good.
  68. The roboticist responds "Sure!"\
  69. Mneme — Today at 9:48 PM
  70. Before I respond to the roboticist's response, I'm going to check to see if they're an antag.
  71. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:55 PM
  72. Sure! They are not.
  73. Mneme — Today at 9:55 PM
  74. Sweet. I'll then send a response back saying something along the lines of "I've been told you're making some mechs and outfitting them with some heavy weapons, and that you're trying to sell them to the crew for ten credits. Could you tell me a bit more about that?"
  75. ProbablyTrying — Today at 9:59 PM
  76. They respond "Yeah, I'm having fun lol. The mech system is cool."
  77. Mneme — Today at 9:59 PM
  78. Am I able to check their player age to see how long they've been on the server?
  79. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:00 PM
  80. Yeah! They are 10 days old.
  81. Mneme — Today at 10:05 PM
  82. Fairly new then. I'll send them back a response and say something along the lines "I'm glad you're having fun and I don't mean to rain on your parade, but we're a heavyRP server, which means we expect characters to be believable. It is unreasonable for your character to try and sell heavily armed, and armored, mechs to people on the station, unless they're Security and it is through an authorized paperwork process. You can make as many mechs as you want, it's the selling portion that isn't necessarily allowed."
  83. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:10 PM
  84. "But it is believable! I want to host a mech fight in the sec lobby. My character hates sec so it's really realistic."
  85. Mneme — Today at 10:14 PM
  86. "It is not believable primarily because your character wants to keep their job and not go to prison. Your character was hired by a megacorporation, after an extensive background check process and education process, to work in a secure research facility. While your character may hate Sec, and criminal characters who are not antags are allowed to an extent, this goes beyond what is permissible. "
  87. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:16 PM
  88. "I mean, if you say so. But I think it's pretty realistic."
  89. Mneme — Today at 10:20 PM
  90. "Thank you for understanding. To reiterate, you are still able to build mechs and if you want to have a mech fight all you have to do is get approval from your Head of Staff and host it within your department, however you in your individual capacity are not allowed to sell heavily armed and armored mechs to anyone on the crew, outside of Security, as a non-antag. If you have any questions please feel free to open a ticket and I'll do my best to help you out. Have a great rest of your round." I'll then wait about a minute or two for a response, and if there is no response I'll close the ticket.
  91. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:21 PM
  92. Awesome! Do you do anything else?
  93. Mneme — Today at 10:22 PM
  94. Assuming there is no response, I'll close the ticket. If I'm aghosted I'll continue watching them for an additional minute or so while I write a response to the person who sent the first ahelp saying something along the lines of "It has been resolved. Have a great rest of your round." and promptly close their ticket.
  95. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:23 PM
  96. Sounds good.
  97. Do you note the roboticist?
  98. Mneme — Today at 10:25 PM
  99. I will yes, since notes are for primarily for staff I'll write something along the lines of "As a roboticist, individual made heavily armed and armored mechs and started advertising that they would sell them to anyone on the crew for ten credits. If they do this again, I'd recommend issuing a warning."
  100. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:27 PM
  101. Sounds good. Alright. Next-- you are playing in a cult round and you have someone ahelp "I was totally just ganked, WTF"
  102. Mneme — Today at 10:30 PM
  103. I'll reach out to the person who sent the ahelp, and ask them to explain a bit more. Along the lines of "Hello. I'll look into it, could you give me a brief description of what happened?" While I wait for their response I'll also pull up the attack logs with the variables, and try and see who attacked them.
  104. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:33 PM
  105. The person who ahelped is an officer. The person who ganked them is a roboticist.
  106.
  107. Officer Urist says "Yeah, i was going up the elevators and I saw something happening on the sublevel, walked in, and out of nowhere Im fucking attacked!!"
  108. Mneme — Today at 10:34 PM
  109. Alright. I'll send a message over to the roboticist and do my standard spiel of "Hello, do you have a minute?" I'll also look at the attack logs again to see who attacked first, if it was indeed the roboticist who attacked first or if it was the officer.
  110. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:37 PM
  111. They respond "yeah but im in the middle of combat."
  112. Mneme — Today at 10:37 PM
  113. At that point I'd aghost over and take a peak for myself to see what was happening.
  114. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:42 PM
  115. Sure! So the cultist is fighting what looks to be carp as the officer lies dying on the ground.
  116. Mneme — Today at 10:43 PM
  117. I'd wait for him to kill the carp and PM him again. "Now that you're out of combat, can you tell me what happened with the Officer?"
  118. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:45 PM
  119. He says "Yeah, the cop walked in on me as I was killing another guy. I had to get rid of him."
  120. Mneme — Today at 10:46 PM
  121. "Did you make any attempt at all to communicate with the officer before attacking him?"
  122. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:46 PM
  123. "Not really, he walked in on me killing a guy. He was gonna kill me."
  124. Mneme — Today at 10:49 PM
  125. Right. I'll take a peak at the roboticist's notes and warnings, to see if they have a history of this
  126. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:50 PM
  127. They're a 25 day old account, no history.
  128. Mneme — Today at 10:51 PM
  129. Alright. I'll send them a PM along the lines of "I see. That type of behavior goes against our rule on ganking. Ganking is essentially wordlessly killing and or attacking someone, without providing any interaction. While antags are allowed to kill people, it is expected that they will provide roleplay before doing so. Your job as an antag is to drive the story, wordlessly killing someone doesn't drive that story."
  130. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:52 PM
  131. "But if he lived there, it would be a HuT sentence for me, and I'm not ready to go loud yet. Isn't it his fault for walking in on me??"
  132. Mneme — Today at 10:56 PM
  133. "While that may be the case, antags are again here to drive story and being captured is part of the risks associated with playing as an antag. There is no winning or losing in roleplay. Wordlessly killing someone isn't fun and generally doesn't provide much interaction."
  134. ProbablyTrying — Today at 10:58 PM
  135. "ok.... next time ill just be caught then."
  136. Mneme — Today at 11:01 PM
  137. "That is one of the risks of playing as an antag. At the end of the day we're all here to have fun. If you have any questions or would like help with anything please feel free let me know by throwing up a ticket. If not, have a great rest of your round." I'd wait a minute or two for a response before closing the ticket, since it's their first offense and they were generally cooperative within adminPMs, I'll throw up a note saying something along the lines of "Wordlessly killed an officer as an antag out of fear of being caught. Was informed about the ganking rule, generally cooperative within adminPMs. If this happens again I'd recommend a warning or an antag ban." I'd then let the officer know something along the lines of "The individual has been spoken with, thank you for letting us know." and close their ticket.
  138. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:02 PM
  139. Cool! Okay.
  140. So, we're going to move on to the second bit if you're ready.
  141. Mneme — Today at 11:02 PM
  142. I'm ready Freddy.
  143. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:04 PM
  144. What is metagaming, and how would you deal with it?
  145. Mneme — Today at 11:09 PM
  146. Metagaming is generally understood as using information gained OOC, IC. For example, Let's say my friend and I are playing as a Security officer, and my friend gets killed by an antag in a remote tunnel in maintenance. My friend doesn't have sensors on and there is really no reasonable way to track him IC. My friend lets me know in discord that he was just killed at said location, and I immediately rush over to said location to stop the antag, that would be metagaming. If I suspect someone is metagaming, I'll do a bit of sleuthing to try and see if said individual has any IC-way of figuring out that knowledge. I'll generally ascertain this by speaking to people, looking at the logs, and common sense. If it's clear that they would have no IC way of doing this, I'd issue a note if they were a newer account and its their first offense, and a warning/ban if they're an established player with an older account and or they have a history of metagaming in the past.
  147. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:17 PM
  148. Do you ever think that it is acceptable for a non-antagonist to murder another non-antagonist? Why or why not?
  149. Mneme — Today at 11:23 PM
  150. I believe it is acceptable for a non-antagonist to murder another non-antagonist, however for it to be justifiable in my eyes a lot of roleplay has to take place prior to that, and the consequences of that action have to be accepted. An example being, if my character and another character have had a multi-round long canon conflict and it naturally progresses in a way that devolves into murder, and this conflict is agreed upon by both parties, then it is acceptable. Though the player committing the murder, and I suspect the one being murdered, have to understand that there are substantial consequences, to the point of losing a character, should they undertake it. I also believe this would have to be taken on a case-by-case basis. If two people have long-term conflict but murder eachother every round and then join next round all dandy and fine, it's clear they're not committing to the consequences and therefore wouldn't be permissable.
  151. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:24 PM
  152. Our rules often refer to keeping characters 'believable'. Do you feel there is a difference between a realistic, and a believable character? If so, what is it?
  153. Mneme — Today at 11:30 PM
  154. I believe so. I feel like realistic is applicable to the now, whereas believable is applicable to the setting if that makes sense. It's not realistic that there is an entire social class dedicated to deforming themselves by putting cheap augments on, tattooing up their skin, dyeing their hair outrageous colors, and generally acting like criminals, in a super-oppressed megacorporate-run society that doesn't have laws, but has terms and conditions. It is however believable that such a character exists within the setting, as those characters are known as Dregs and that super-oppressed megacorporate-run society is the Eridani Federation. I don't believe realistic should be used to determine if something is or is not permissible, given the fact that we have giant space bugs and squids that telepathically communicate using a mysterious force. Believability can also apply to certain job restrictions, It would be believable if a tajaran surgeon has forged medical credentials from when they worked as a doctor during the rebellion, and are only working aboard because of lax hiring standards or a spur of good luck, however it would not be believable if said tajaran constantly spouted about how they're not a real doctor, they don't have credentials, and they're a war criminal.
  155. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:30 PM
  156. How do you feel you work in a team?
  157. Mneme — Today at 11:33 PM
  158. No one can do everything alone. I've worked in teams my entire life, whether it be through my college or at work, or in a school project. I feel like I thrive in that team environment as I can rely on other people to help pick me up and support me if I'm lacking, and I too am able to afford them that same courtesy. I normally take a more goal-driven leadership approach to teamwork, relying on maximizing other people's experiences and skills so that the entire team and institution that we represent thrives. I'm also a big proponent of encouraging a positive team environment, as no one wants to work in a team where people treat each other like shit. As the saying goes, teamwork makes the dreamwork.
  159. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:34 PM
  160. Okay. If you could change one thing about the server, what would it be?
  161. Mneme — Today at 11:38 PM
  162. If I were to change one thing, it'd be to increase the transparency about what the staff team actually does, while still maintaining that team environment. An example being, new players often don't know the difference between primary administrators and secondary administrators, or how moderators fit into that dynamic. I feel like understanding is a big part of trust, and if we are asking them to trust us to help them handle the issues that they might have, we should at-least give them an understanding of what we do and what we value as a team so that they can feel confident knowing that we're here to make sure everyone has a good time, and are not here to be the big bad wolves that ruin everything.
  163. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:39 PM
  164. Alright.
  165. Do you have anything at all you want to add?
  166. Mneme — Today at 11:40 PM
  167. Just that I'm always here should anyone have questions. Thank you for accommodating me for the interview process.
  168. ProbablyTrying — Today at 11:41 PM
  169. No problem! Are you okay with me sharing this?
  170. Mneme — Today at 11:41 PM
  171. By all means.
