The Evolution of the Hacker

Like I said it takes many hackers to make the IT industry come together.
Many hackers have wore all three hats at one point or another.

Theres the White hat. A lot of white hats start off as black hats but
keep it a secrete and are a lot of times are more dangerous than Black
hats because they are deceiving and won't admit or give any evidence of
their deceptive ways.

Theres the Black hat they are mischievous, cunning and sometimes evil
mostly they have no intentions of hurting anyone at all. They treat
their skill as a game and just do it for fun, they are usually open
about their intentions.

Then the Grey hat they evolved from Black hats and have alot of the
skills that White hats have also. They work with a lot of White hats in
order to protect the systems the White hats build.

The Black hat hacker usually starts at a early age as a teenager then as
they progress and become older out of their juvenile mind set become
Grey hat hackers having a lot of the same skills as White hats.

Then there are a lot of White hats that never have any contact with the
Black and Grey hat community other than what they have been taught in
school.

Me personally I started off as a enthusiast then that moved to be a
Black hat, while in the black hat stages I was introduced to a lot of
literature, by "The Mentor" from phrack who explains the hacker mindset.
Kevin Paulsen( A former black hat reformed and turned journalist for
security focus ) Kevin Mitnick ( A black hat that never wanted to harm
any one but was forced by the feds to use his skills to go into hiding
until he was tired of running and surrendered, while running from the
FBI he used his skills as a Black hat to do private investigations for
people to help finance his journey and stay one step ahead of the FBI ,
while constantly keeping contact with John Markoff to make sure his
story was told if anything did happen to him. ) Then I started to
understand what a hacker really is, a hacker is a enthusiast that wants
to understand and have knowledge of the systems and how to use them
beyond the generic uses.
