Prologue

Saigon, April 29th, 1975

Silence.

As the C-17 would take off from Saigon, the same shocked screams he’d heard previous rang out as an explosion rocked the runway behind him.

The only thing he wondered this time was whether this was it. Whether he’d make it back. Taking a set of lucky strikes out of his pocket, he opened it up. In it, sat a phone number that “Joseph” had told him to call if he ever ended up in the States.

With no home or family, Trung Duong found himself alone on what felt like a new planet.
