- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:02:34 AM: What do you know about Macs?
- Vick Dang:
- 10:03:05 AM: uh
- 10:03:13 AM: its a blowback operated machine pistol
- 10:03:16 AM: takes either 45 or 9
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:03:18 AM: Sigh.
- 10:03:32 AM: Based on your shoes, I thought you were cool.
- I THOUGHT you were cool.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:04:14 AM: lol
- 10:04:17 AM: what about macs
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:05:30 AM: Mine shit the bed last night.
- 10:05:33 AM: You familiar with them?
- Vick Dang:
- 10:05:55 AM: uh
- 10:06:06 AM: I'm pretty familiar with hardware
- 10:06:16 AM: shit the bed because of hardware or software?
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:06:23 AM: It froze. I did a hard reboot. Fucker now cannot find something it needs to start the OS.
- 10:06:32 AM: I'm not sure.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:06:41 AM: oh yeah that sounds like software
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:06:54 AM: It's that fucking folder with the question mark when it starts up.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:07:16 AM: idk anything about that, but sounds like your OS is corrupted
- 10:07:23 AM: do you have the macOS disk?
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:07:26 AM: Can my data be retrieved?
- 10:07:28 AM: I do not.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:07:33 AM: yeah most likely
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:07:37 AM: Where would one procure such a thing from?
- Vick Dang:
- 10:07:47 AM: well you don't want to grab the disk just yet
- 10:07:53 AM: (from apple presumably)
- 10:08:01 AM: the disk is to fix the issue
- 10:08:10 AM: but you want to do a data back up independently of that
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:08:53 AM: This is why I don't trust computers. It didn't get run over. Nothing tangible happened to it. It just...decided to not work one day.
- 10:09:23 AM:
- Vick Dang:
- 10:10:20 AM: Right, I'm not familiar enough with macs to know if there is a repair option through the install disk
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:10:41 AM: There is. But it was unavailable on mine.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:11:01 AM: so you do have the disc?
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:11:22 AM:
- 10:11:39 AM: The OS disk? I don't have it.
- 10:11:49 AM: This will be my last Mac. Never had a PC do this to me.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:11:55 AM: lol
- 10:12:00 AM: dawg PCs can do it too
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:12:22 AM: We must endeavor to create computers impervious to such arbitrary failure.
- 10:12:34 AM: I know the HD is still in the computer. No one took it out.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:12:50 AM: it's never going to be impervious
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:12:59 AM: Then we should go back the paper and the pen!
- Vick Dang:
- 10:13:01 AM: something tangible is happening
- 10:13:07 AM: no one is stopping you lol
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:13:16 AM: No idea why it just up and quit.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:13:21 AM: ok
- 10:13:31 AM: so anytime you make any changes to the computer
- 10:13:37 AM: it has to write that data to the disk
- 10:13:43 AM: sometimes there's a failure
- 10:13:59 AM: so like
- 10:14:07 AM: let's say your AR stove pipes
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:14:15 AM: I can see that.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:14:17 AM: it's not going to let you continue firing
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:14:18 AM: Touch it.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:14:34 AM: right right
- 10:14:38 AM: its the same thing
- 10:15:05 AM: so you have to clear the malfunction and move on
- 10:15:18 AM: doing a repair from the install disk might fix that
- 10:15:41 AM: but let's say somehow a part gets damaged
- 10:15:42 AM: let
- 10:15:48 AM: s say your bolt got damaged
- 10:16:01 AM: that's not a malfunction, you can't just clear that and continue shooting
- 10:16:12 AM: you have to get it replaced
- 10:16:24 AM: so right now, we think you have a malfunction, and we have to see if we can clear it
- 10:16:31 AM: if we can't clear it
- 10:16:48 AM: we have to take the AR apart and save any components that are not damaged (ie backup your data)
- 10:17:02 AM: and then replace the bolt, and you're good to go
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:17:17 AM: I see. That makes sense.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:17:47 AM: but right now, I don't have information to know if its just a malfunction or if there is a damaged part
- 10:17:53 AM: enough information*
- 10:18:04 AM: now, of course instead of clearing it
- 10:18:12 AM: we could just take the AR apart and look at everything
- 10:18:23 AM: IE back everything up first
- 10:18:29 AM: since that seems like a priority for you
- 10:18:57 AM: also computers will break without proper maint. imagine running an AR over and over without cleaning and lubing it
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:19:00 AM: It is.
- 10:19:02 AM: Ugghhh.
- 10:19:19 AM: I don't shutting down. I don't like backing up. And I don't like running defrag/diagnostics/or anything else that keeps me from the internets.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:19:26 AM: lol
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:20:03 AM: I just want shit to work.
- 10:20:22 AM: And I utilize it for so little, I feel comfortable in that expectation.
- 10:20:36 AM: I don't even print wirelessly. I carry my laptop into the office and plug it in.
- 10:20:47 AM: I feel I'm being reasonable. Mr. Mac, why aren't you
- 10:20:47 AM: ?
- Vick Dang:
- 10:20:55 AM: how old is it?
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:21:02 AM: Five or six years at this point.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:21:04 AM: yeah
- 10:21:25 AM: so I'll admit, there is a thing as planned obsolesce that just is a part of the tech world
- 10:21:35 AM: can't really get around it
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:21:51 AM: :-(
- 10:21:59 AM: My PC is actually older than that.
- 10:22:05 AM: But again, I do so little on them.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:22:10 AM: but your PC is a tower right?
- Chris Allen (cpallen@savasc.com):
- 10:22:13 AM: I need to just buy a new one from Best Buy and be done with it.
- 10:22:17 AM: Nope. Laptop.
- 10:22:22 AM: I play WoW on it.
- Vick Dang:
- 10:22:25 AM: lol
