- what is this?
The post you just read is part of a series of daily series of posts reminding people that the musketeer guy exists, as well as wishing for said person to eventually be in the game as a playable character. A new post will be posted on the megathread around 17:38 UTC every day, on a best effort basis.

There will be times where I forget or unfortunate circumstances arise (see https://old.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact_Leaks/comments/1mul4kn/aino_what_you_did_last_summer_general_question/naru4g4/), but the intent is to get a post out every day. Please feel free to bug me in the megathread if I miss a day - I would hate for that to happen.

- who is musketeer guy?
On June 19, 2023 at 16:28 UTC, a 7zip file was posted to 4chan, containing 288 files which included various design sheets and concept arts of both released and future characters at that time. One of them contained 3 designs for a potential character. They all depicted a tall male dressed in extravagant clothing with a hat.

This concept sheet would be posted to this subreddit at 17:38 UTC under the title "Musketeer fellow with a parakeet" (hence the term "musketeer guy" commonly used to refer to the character). It drew much attention from the community as this design has not been revealed in any previous leaks, and is a unique character design that was desirable by much of the userbase.

Unfortunately, no playable characters ended up being released during 4.X that looked like they came from this concept sheet, leading to much speculation about the fate of the character associated with it.

- when should we expect news about musketeer guy?

The first half of a patch cycle (roughly pre-Lantern Rite) is solely dedicated to the region's characters, so don't expect much (if anything) about musketeer guy between X.0 and X.3. I call this period the "off-season" for me.

After that, if Hoyo repeats what they did with the 5.3 stream (see https://old.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact_Leaks/comments/1hij584/mystery_characters/), we may learn about characters for the second half of the patch as early as 6.3 stream. If that happens we should get a definitive answer for whether musketeer guy is in 6.X by then.

Otherwise, we just have to play the long game of "wait and see what each patch brings to the table". This is when the "season" begins: over 6+ months (from X.4 and X.8) of waiting for each drip marketing Monday (or just patch/beta day now that Hoyo changes the schedule, screw you Hoyo) to learn which new characters get released, while also thinking about musketeer guy's chances based on what we've seen from the patch cycle so far.

- any chance he actually becomes playable?
No idea - as with some of the other concepts that were in the 7zip folder (e.g. goth girl, mummy girl), all we can do is speculate on what happened to the character.

Some theories include:

A. The character is still in development and will eventually appear in the game. The most prominent existing candidate for this would be Captain Grosrochard of the Gardes, who recently got a mention in the 4.7 main event along with many characters that are either playable or also likely to appear later in the story. The designs shown also looks like something a person in his position would wear.
B. The character was later scrapped.
C. The designs in the image was actually for another character, namely Clorinde.
D. The designs in the image was actually an NPC, namely Savinien besides the Adventurer's Guild.

I am, and have been, a firm believer of (A) ever since the leak happened. This daily series is how I show it to the subreddit.

- do you feel like this is a waste of time? when do you plan to stop?
Current plan is to continue into 6.X, unless it becomes clear that Fontaine will *not* be featured at any point in that patch series, or that musketeer guy will definitely not be released in 6.X. As I said above, this may happen as early as the 6.3 stream. After 6.X and the third anniversary, I will reevaluate on whether to continue this series or not.

The reason I consider the end of 6.X a potential stopping point is because 7.X is highly likely to be Snezhnaya, which is the last nation. After that I think Genshin will enter it's "endgame", and opportunities for non-plot-relevant characters from previous regions will become very limited. In fact, before 6.X was announced to be Nod-Krai and *not* Snezhnaya, I had considered stopping at the end of 5.X.

And for whether I think it's a waste of time - the answer is no. Each post only takes about 1 minute to do (it's just copy paste most of the time), so I can keep all of it at the back of my head and don't really think of it much.
