  5. Greetings !!
  6.
  7. As with any large event where you are scrambling to respond to historic events in real-time, the Million Person March was called in haste and is only loosely organized. We do have a March Lead Organizer, she will have a megaphone and hopefully some volunteer help. We ask you to please be patient with her and try and follow her instructions, especially as the march begins.

  9. Obviously it will be hot. Bring plenty of water, including extra to give away if you can. Bring food, enough to share. Please no weapons or violence.

  11. For those who have never participated in a march of this type, this may be enlightening. As the march begins at 9:00 AM it will proceed INCREDIBLY slowly up Gervais Street with FREQUENT stops lasting up to a half hour. We'll explain why that is in a moment, but here are some important tips.
  12.
  13. 1) Go slow. Do not attempt to pass the people in front of you or to either side of you. If the people in front of you slow or stop, DO THE SAME. If the stop is a long one, just sit down in the street to rest - no big deal. During stops, occupy yourself with chants.
  14.
  15. 2) Do not bunch up, SPREAD OUT across Gervais Street. Keep plenty of space between those in front and to either side of you. Remember your body is there to hold space in the street, so hold plenty of it. Keep chanting. Make noise. Be patient.
  16.
  17. 3) If you arrive in the area anytime prior to Noon, please do not try an join the march en-route - but rather if possible make your way all the way back to Three Rivers Greenway and start there.
  18.
  19. 4) While we have called for people to gather at 6:00 AM, and start at 9:00 AM - being late is ok.
  20.
  21. 5) If you arrive in the area the day before on July 3rd, it is ok to camp at the Three Rivers Greenway overnight. Please no open campfires.
  22.
  23. 6) If you have no other plans for the 4th of July after the MPM, you may retire back to the Three Rivers Greenway for networking and celebration. You may camp overnight.
  24.
  25. That's about it. It helps if you realize the goal of the march leaders during the actual marching phase. They are not attempting to get you to the Statehouse. Their goal is BEHIND you, they are attempting to fill up as much of Gervais Street with your bodies as they can before the front of the march reaches the Statehouse. Once you understand this, patience will be easier. Stay in the street, move slowly - and keep making noise.

  27. LOVE EACH OTHER!!
