1. Yoh’s story starts at a very young age, when he was 5 years old. From this time, he is very insecure and alone because he is a “halfer” (half French, half Japanese) in cultural background. Because of this, he is frequently ridiculed for his physical appearance, strange way of talking, and his long Western name. While the heroine (who will be henceforth referred to as Tsukiko) was visiting her grandparents, she met Tomoe while he was looking for his telescope. She finds it for him and introduces herself, but Yoh remains shy and introverted. When she asks him of his name, he responds with his French name, Henri Samuel Jean Aimee. Tsukiko is unable to pronounce such a name, so he writes his Japanese name down, Yoh Tomoe. Because the name “Yoh” (羊) can also be interpreted as “sheep” (羊 hitsuji), Tsukiko gave him the nickname “Hitsuji-kun”. Finally feeling accepted as a person to another, Yoh fell in love with Tsukiko at this moment.

 3. Jump to several years in the future, Yoh is now 16 years old and living in France. He still remembers Tsukiko fondly, and for reasons not stated, he now knows that she is attending a boarding school in Japan that specializes in Astronomy; Seigetsu Academy (this school is a bit odd, as it has only recently started accepting girls and Tsukiko is the only female student. This will be important later on). He decides to leave his parents and home country to attend and be with the girl he’s in love with. Once at the school, he is placed into Tsukiko’s class. She does not recognize him at first, but that doesn’t stop him from immediately hugging her and already showing signs of affection. Such behavior shocks Suzuya Tohzuki and Kanata Nanami, Tsukiko’s longtime childhood friends (who are also in love with her, but that’s not important for this app). The latter is very annoyed by this, and from then on holds a grudge on Yoh.
